I honestly think her mother has a lot of influence over her, to the point where she’s almost being manipulated…
I think your theory about her mother makes sense, but at the same time, we're talking about a girl who used to be strong, smart, and capable of handling difficult situations. So I don't think her relationship with her mother alone can explain this change in her behavior.

I feel like it might be a combination of several things: her mother's influence, her father's absence, and her relationship with her ex-fiancé, XT, who was the male figure she grew up with and knew best. All of these experiences could have shaped the way she sees relationships and understands love.

And about her feelings for YCX, I picked up on that too! 😂❤️ I think she might have been in love with him from the beginning but either couldn't admit it to herself or simply didn't want to acknowledge it.

Maybe all these things combined are affecting her judgment and making her act more emotionally than logically. That could explain why she seems so different now. But I still wish the drama would explore this side of her character more deeply, because I want to understand her transformation rather than just watch her behave differently without a clear explanation. 👀

Is YPJ genuinely losing her intelligence, or is she losing her ability to think objectively because she's emotionally involved with YCX? 👀

Because honestly, I don't see much character development in her. If anything, I feel like she's going backwards.

She used to be smart, sharp, and resourceful. She knew how to handle difficult situations, respond to people, and stand up for herself. But now, it's like she's suddenly lost that ability. Sometimes, she seems confused and doesn't know how to react, which makes me wonder what happened to the woman we met at the beginning.

Usually, character development means learning from your experiences and becoming wiser, stronger, and more capable. But after everything YPJ has been through, I expected her to become even more perceptive, not lose the very qualities that made her interesting.

One possible explanation is that she's always been sensitive but used to rely more on logic than emotions. Maybe her feelings for YCX are clouding her judgment and making her act differently than she normally would. That could be an interesting direction for her character, but I wish the drama would make this internal struggle clearer.

Otherwise, it feels less like character development and more like character regression. And honestly, that's what frustrates me the most. 😭

Some of the comments blaming YPJ for seeking opportunities to talk to YCX honestly made me laugh. 😂 Like, how are the ML and FL supposed to end up together if they can’t even talk to each other? 🤣🤣🤣
But seriously, after YCX returns from the war, I think YPJ’s behavior is understandable. Once she discovers what he actually did for her, she feels guilty for misjudging him. So whenever she gets the chance to talk to him, she doesn’t let the opportunity slip away. She wants to thank him and show him that she appreciates what he did for her. And honestly, that doesn’t automatically mean she’s leading him on. She’s acknowledging his actions and, slowly starting to see him in a different light. 👀❤️”

I agree that both MLs have flaws, but I don't think they're on the same level. YCX is arrogant, and his obsession…
She's studiant and she has no experience in romantic relationship

ahhhh sorry for that and yes YPJ really needs to wake up and see these two men for who they truly are. She needs to understand the difference between someone who genuinely cares about her and someone who is willing to use her for his own benefit. And more importantly, she needs to learn what love really means and she can't sacrifice herself for someone who would sacrifice her for his own sake.

I love that both main leads are terrible people. Their actions and the way they think are questionable and that’s…
I agree that both MLs have flaws, but I don't think they're on the same level. YCX is arrogant, and his obsession with Bi Jin made him cross some moral boundaries, but deep down, he's a principled, sincere, and straightforward person. He knew how to be a military man and how to treat people, but when it came to love, he didn't know where to draw the line between loving someone and possessing them. That's why his growth feels natural to me. Once he understood that love can't be forced, he was able to let go.

JXT, on the other hand, seems to have much deeper issues. It's not just about love or emotional immaturity; it's about manipulation, betrayal, and using people for his own benefit. He says one thing but does another, and even asks Bi Jin to sacrifice herself to get his help. That's a completely different level of problem.

For me, there's a difference between someone who needs to learn how to love and someone who needs to question the kind of person he is. That's why I can appreciate YCX's growth without pretending his mistakes never happened.

I'm so proud of YCX! 😭❤️ He finally realized that love can't be forced, that loving someone doesn't mean possessing them, and sometimes, letting go is the truest form of love.

Honestly, I was pretty sure he'd get there because, beneath his obsession, he's a man with values and principles. That's why I could never see him as simply a toxic character. He had flaws to confront and lessons to learn, and what matters to me is that he was capable of recognizing them and choosing to grow. 🥹❤️

I'm halfway through ep 16, and I just realized... did she forget that her mother is hospitalized?
In all previous ep, she's been crying only over JXT 😤

We, or at least me, am not judging Wei Rou based on her desires but her actions...she doesn't hesitate to kill…
Exactly and we'll see if survival is her motivation or just an excuse to justify her actions.

Survival can explain why someone crosses a moral boundary, but does it automatically make that person morally…
If we say a 'good reason' like survival excuses everything, then morality doesn't exist anymore, because everyone has an excuse for their actions. Wei Rou acts out of greed, and A Chou acts out of fear. But in the end, if they both use the same cruel methods, they are two sides of the same coin.

I don't find any double standards in doing so. Achou does it for her survival without hurting the innocent, byt…
I understand your point, but A Chou isn't completely innocent. By keeping up this massive lie and playing these dangerous games, she puts everyone around her at risk including the prince. Survival isn't a free pass to hurt others or manipulate them. At some point, a bad action is just a bad action, no matter why you did it

That’s exactly my point. At first, A Chou only does it to survive. But as time goes on, she starts using the exact same lies, manipulation, and cold calculations as Wei Rou to keep her position. If she is doing the same bad things, her 'good reasons' don't excuse her anymore. She is becoming the very monster she was fighting.

Survival can explain why someone crosses a moral boundary, but does it automatically make that person morally better than someone who crosses the same boundary out of desire?
That's the real question! Because if we judge A Chou only by her circumstances and Wei Rou only by her desires, aren't we judging them by two different standards?

True, it's not black and white. I'm not trying to label them as good or evil, just wondering if different motivations make the same action morally different.

That's exactly my point! A Chou kills to survive, while Wei Rou kills to get what she wants. Their motivations are different, but if both end up making the same choice, how do we distinguish between them morally? I know survival makes A Chou's actions more understandable, but does that automatically make her choice more justifiable? That's what I'm questioning.

No, you're definitely not the only one. But I think that's the point, they're more similar than is comfortable,…
Survival can explain someone's actions, but it doesn't automatically make them a better person.

she could literally die if her secret is exposed, i literally can't blame her for how she acts knowing that she's…
So ! she's so smart and tactical
she don't need to turn out like Wei Rou
and honestly, at this point, I feel like both of them are willing to kill anyone who gets in their way just to get what they want.

Ep 9 and A Chou is starting to act just like Wei Rou 😭

I get that she needs to protect herself, but does she really have to go as far as using the same tactics to hurt or even kill people? Like girl, you don't have to become her to survive.

Sometimes I genuinely feel like I'm watching Wei Rou instead of A Chou. I still sympathize with her, but it's frustrating to see her becoming so much like the person she should be different from.

Am I the only one who feels this way? 👀

I just started watching Where the Mask Ends, and I’m really enjoying it so far. I do sympathize with A Chou, but sometimes I can’t help feeling like she’s becoming a bit like Wei Rou.

I get that she needs to protect herself and secure her place in the Lu family, but the way she manipulates people sometimes makes me uncomfortable and it’s a little sad to see her acting this way.

Am I the only one who feels this way, or do you guys see the similarities between her and Wei Rou too? 👀
