Loathsome female lead. Lacks romance. feministic point of view
6 episodes in & the female lead's character is really loathsome. She ridiculously jumps to conclusions & has an overwhelmingly obnoxious personality. The fact that she is a "tramp" , casually sleeping around ALOT, makes it hard to accept her as a romantic partner for a super relationship shy male lead. In fact The male lead is the only one creating any chemistry. Either the actress, her acting or the script are lacking but it is very lacking.By Ep 9 & it's so hard to believe the female lead is sincere in her affections as She was ready to jump into bed with anyone (even after she met the male lead!) , so it's really unromantic when she makes a move on the male lead. We are given no reason at all to believe that she is doing more than playing with him & it's really pitiful when he confesses that she is unlike any other female he has known because they were all manipulative, selfish & wanted to use him for their own gain. As that exactly describes the female lead, who insists on relationships on Her terms it's hard to want them together.
The reason for her prolific dating comes to light & they try to make her into a sort of hero, but dating is one thing, "dating" with the definition of sleeping together is really another. The Female lead has no intention of getting married & the male lead wants to get married & have kids. They present marriage as a woman being tamed by a man. Whoa ! this is the happy ending we are given? agh !
Choi Jin-hyuk shines but lacks chemistry with Jung Eun-ji. Lee Jung Eun is brilliant
I put off watching this for a long time because the plot line did not appeal to me. However I had run out of fresh dramas to watch so I ended up watching it.This drama is stuffed full of familiar actors, most of who are simply replaying similar roles. That was a little annoying. The first few episodes really drew me in & those performances by the male lead and the 2nd female lead were impressive so I was expecting this to be an 8/10 drama, so it makes me sad to give it only a 6/10
here are the Plus+ and the Minus-
- I had seen the Male lead Choi Jin-hyuk previously in "Devilish Joy /Charm" & his acting here was pretty much the same ( playing a broken man with a tragic past incident ) His acting is fine, it was just felt like the same character with the same emotions.
+ But having said that, it was his acting & Lee Jung Eun's (as the older version of the female lead) that were the best part of this drama.
- Female lead, Jung Eun-ji felt miscast & she had zero chemistry with the male lead, to the point where this would have worked better without any romance.
- The lead's first kiss suffered not only from lack of chemistry but also terrible timing. The circumstances were incredibly unromantic .
- Baek Seo-hoo, while nice eye candy, was underused. It really felt like there were whole scenes & story lines that he was cut out of.
+ + Lee Jung Eun really shines supernova bright as the older woman version of Jung Eun-ji. I've seen her in alot of dramas, & was not really a fan , but as an older actress; this part & the way she plays it is worthy of an award. Her zeal & mobility combined with her expressions & line delivery really won me over. I ended up liking her character more than Jung Eun-ji ,the female lead.
- I've seen alot of Jung Suk-yong over the years in various dramas. His part as father here felt like he was just playing to type & honestly I'm kind of tired of seeing the same actors in the same roles so often
-- Jung Young Joo as the mother was given way too much screen time. I have seen her in too many dramas, playing the loud aggressive overbearing female who goes around hitting people.
- The villain : It was never clear to me what the Villain's motivation was. Also, the villain was physically incapable of lifting & moving the victims the way it's implied that he did
( how far can a person of average strength drag dead weight or lift it into a car ?)
- The Cat: it was really unclear what we were supposed to believe about the cat.
- I really hated that Jung Eun-ji's character was hot & cold in the romance. She didn't even want to try & work around her condition , though the male lead was willing. Then once her life goes back to normal she seems just fine ,so you believe that if she hadn't met the male lead again, she would have been sort of sad, but not as broken up with longing as he was. Very unappealingly unbalanced romance
- There is a 6 month time skip into the future at/ near the end & though the leads do end up together, the ending is a bit lack luster, a very weak "yay" happy ending.
+ OST : I really enjoyed the as it used instrumentals a good bit & did not replay sung songs too much
Watch for the action & violence if that interests you
This has alot of action/fighting/running . A good deal if not most of this of is violent. Really the death toll is staggering. It's extremely hard to see the leads as a married couple, especially the female lead, but they do fight well together against thier enemies. I was hoping for something a little more like Mr. & Mrs. Smith -But this is completely lacking in romantic chemistry.
Abusive female lead, bad styling,
I did not like that Yoon Eun-hye was very physically abusive & that they guy she loves just takes it. You are supposed to see her change, but it never feels that she does. Yoon Eun-hye did not look her best in this (not at all like the posters of the series) and the stylists did a terrible job. Moon Chae-won should have been cast as the lead as she had a more believable look. The ending was delayed by an inexplicable reason & really not done well even though relationship loose ends are tied up they are not finalized satisfactorily .I was also disappointed that there was premarital sex as part of the love story. I wouldn't recommend it.
Not a romantic Comedy of any sort. Male lead's personality changes
I'd rate it higher, but for some reason I want to compare it with Healer , or Strong Woman Bong-soon and really it just isn't at the same level .There was alot of sadness & being chased, so it was not a romantic Comedy of any sort.
The OST was forgettable. It was a good length & the actors did well. The story was good. The red lipstick they gave the male lead was weird. The male lead was reserved and introverted since childhood. Seeing him turn into a different personality at the end was disappointing, it was as if Holo took him over & possessed him !
felt like a home movie
whatever was in the writer's head, the director's vision or the producer's budget, it produced this - a thing that feels like a home movie. You won't probably get through it and if you do you won't remember it. A sad waste over all the time & energy (and money) that went into this. To say more would imply that it was actually memorable a day after i watched it
Awesome action sequences. Off color humor
Trying to give a James Bond vibe with comedy thrown in, it somehow reminds me of a Charlie's Angle's movie where you have seriously good action sequences but then cheesy embarrassing moments. Alot of the laughs are not from clean humor & that's when you feel embarrassed for the actors. A wink, a nod & some innuendo would have been funny, but the randy (rude ,over sexed) girlfriends kinda ruin things with their dirty talk. Also the girls dancing in the bar scene ruins the nice girl's nice-ness.If those things weren't in the movie, I would have given it a better rating
Wooden male lead, annoying female lead. Lacks lead chemistry
I would have rated it higher, but1) female lead's character being so annoying it was hard to like her. And her attraction to male lead is a hard sell
2) she went up the mountain 1000 times (= 1000 days!) to pray. Then at the end of the series there is a 1000+ day time skip as she goes up the mountain AGAIN (that many times) to pray ! (yes there is a reason, but consider: that's ALOT of time !!
3) after becoming human, what DOES a former immortal do ? apparently nothing. Big plot hole there
4) Male lead never sells his side of the romance. His expressions, or range of them, was lacking.
Not a horrible drama, nor a waste of time, but really, I never warmed up to any of the characters or cared much about thier relationships.
Fluffy fun with a good bit of action.
Just fluff. I watch because of the female lead is fun to watch. This is a lighter K -rom-com with a good bit of action & is nice breezy entertainment. There aren't too many cringe worthy moments in this. happily, all 3 main leads do well. The younger guy having a crush on an older woman was weird, but they explain it .
Nonsensical , silly & fluffy drama that is frequently disjointed.
Selfish male lead is well matched with selfish female lead who acts like a jerk for most of the series & then becomes infatuated with him, but if he does not marry someone else, history will change in such a way that a war will not be won & everyone in the famous story dies & history changes. So basically forbidden love. There are a large quantity of disjointed scenes & things that just don't make sense. it's a fluffy, but annoying series that ends with an inexplicable happy ending (of sorts) not a very satisfying ending considering the time I invested.
Clever mystery (s) Heart warming Friendships. Well balanced thriller . Slow paced
While not the sort of drama I normally enjoy, I ended up liking it. This reminded me of Inspector Koo, with it's surprising cleverness and keeping me guessing throughout the series. The warm fuzzies come from friendships & parent child relationships more than any romance. The romance is so slight that I don't think the word even applies ! Disappointingly, there wasn't even one kiss between the main couple, (though they do get thier happy ending). For all that this was about solving multiple murders, it was really well balanced. The murders being done off screen for the most part. There were only a few scary bits and they were in Ep 13-15 where there are some violent scenes that are pretty hard to take-people getting beat up to a pulp & abducted. I found it impressive that there were so many suspects & that so many characters were evil, just in different ways. The pacing was slow but it keeps the murders from being oppressively overshadowing the story. The whole thing was an unexpected surprise. Ends well too.
sorta cute Bite sized drama for Cha Eun- Woo fans only
Bite sized drama with Girl that is unable to make an impression on the cute guy she sees at coffee shop every day so she gets drunk and cries on the life size cut out of Cha Eun-woo (singer in the idol group Astro ).Spoiler
The cut out comes to life but no one else can see him. He trains her to attract her crush but they fall for each other instead. Kinda cute, though some comments are a bit off color . Ending has them meeting for real (as real people) but is really a fan dream sort of ending. so pretty much for fans only. I wouldn't watch again but it wasn't horrible).
Tame Gumiho. Bland childish female lead. Nice but unremarkable drama
I enjoyed it but I think the high rating is because I hadn't seen a decent drama in a long time so this was much better in comparison.Be warned there are alot of product placement for Subway & ramen !I was disappointed that although the male lead did magical things like freeze time & instantly transport, it did really nothing that made me think Gumiho anymore than I would vampire. I would have like to have seen more things that were fox-like & more manifestations of his animal persona. As it was he seemed very tame. I wasn't 100% sold on the female lead. The lead's chemistry was fine, but not off the charts. This is another case where I blame casting & the writers. Basically the female lead as a bit too childish, silly, not interesting enough & they never really made me feel like there was a reason that she stood out from other females so there seemed no reason for the lead male to find her intriguing (especially after 999 years of meeting So many females !) The series did a much better job of selling the second lead's romance. I gave this less than 10 stars because it was heavy in some parts & I needed a break from it some days. For the most part the tropes were minimal & quickly resolved. I found it incredibly tedious that a rejected male confessed himself to the female lead over 3 times and just wouldn't take no for an answer. It was cringingly pitiful & not well done. Just as annoying was the way the series connected siblings of other characters in the end so that Mr. Pitiful was going to be even more pitiful because of that story line (which thankfully we never have to witness)The end was a little anticlimactic with the warm fuzzies as the male lead really longs for a family but he never says so to anyone & the romance, though happy in it resolution is rather bland, where they could have given us a proposal & segway into a wedding & hence a family that the former Gumiho longed for
Not a comedy or romance (not sure what to call it besides a dud)
Starring one of my least favorite female actresses, where do I begin to loathe ? The guys aren't good looking, infidelity, rude discussions abound. This is not only badly filmed, but it also looks like a much older film. Not a comedy, not a romance. Instead it's sad, depressing & heartbreaking. When you see the old lady talking about how the main character's married mother shook her backside at a man & went off into the tall grass with him...that's how crude this movie is. When you see the pigs mating & the villagers cheering them on...that's as light hearted as it gets.
The only single guy on the island of marriageable age is a Lothario (man who behaves selfishly & irresponsibly in his sexual relationships with women.) whose kissing scene is gross, really disgusting. ( sloppy kisser!)
Overbearing female, weak male. Unsatisfying lead romance
I saw Noh Min Woo in My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho & was hoping to see him as the lead in a romance, but this drama had him playing an idiot-so Wow , the guy can act ! But Euw ! His part was cringy. I never could see him as an adult & a man. He was NOT attractive- just very childish. The story was interesting but the romance just didn't work with such a strong female & such a weak male. He really was Unfortunate to fall in love with a woman who really was as selfish & self focused as she was .They should have had him overcome his trauma & come out much more mature. I kept waiting for the moment when he would slick back his hair & look less goofy & more dashing. but that never happened. They do have him showing quite ALOT of skin at times & he is ripped, but his hotness is dampened 75% by his lacking mentality ( it didn't seem like innocence) . Crude elements pop up very so often, but mostly it's highlighting how the main characters are for the most part innocent. Other characters make fun of that as it's a rarity & yet to a few it's an ideal.(both a strength & a weakness) I was disappointed to see that they had the usual drama trope of separating the couple before reuniting them. The secondary couple was really lacking in chemistry & honestly, Jung Yoon Hak was aloof & inscrutable for most of the drama. It was hard to figure out if any of his feelings were genuine. I felt a bit cheated that the secondary couple had a more romantic resolution than the main couple .
