Nonsensical , silly & fluffy drama that is frequently disjointed.
Selfish male lead is well matched with selfish female lead who acts like a jerk for most of the series & then becomes infatuated with him, but if he does not marry someone else, history will change in such a way that a war will not be won & everyone in the famous story dies & history changes. So basically forbidden love. There are a large quantity of disjointed scenes & things that just don't make sense. it's a fluffy, but annoying series that ends with an inexplicable happy ending (of sorts) not a very satisfying ending considering the time I invested.
Clever mystery (s) Heart warming Friendships. Well balanced thriller . Slow paced
While not the sort of drama I normally enjoy, I ended up liking it. This reminded me of Inspector Koo, with it's surprising cleverness and keeping me guessing throughout the series. The warm fuzzies come from friendships & parent child relationships more than any romance. The romance is so slight that I don't think the word even applies ! Disappointingly, there wasn't even one kiss between the main couple, (though they do get thier happy ending). For all that this was about solving multiple murders, it was really well balanced. The murders being done off screen for the most part. There were only a few scary bits and they were in Ep 13-15 where there are some violent scenes that are pretty hard to take-people getting beat up to a pulp & abducted. I found it impressive that there were so many suspects & that so many characters were evil, just in different ways. The pacing was slow but it keeps the murders from being oppressively overshadowing the story. The whole thing was an unexpected surprise. Ends well too.
sorta cute Bite sized drama for Cha Eun- Woo fans only
Bite sized drama with Girl that is unable to make an impression on the cute guy she sees at coffee shop every day so she gets drunk and cries on the life size cut out of Cha Eun-woo (singer in the idol group Astro ).Spoiler
The cut out comes to life but no one else can see him. He trains her to attract her crush but they fall for each other instead. Kinda cute, though some comments are a bit off color . Ending has them meeting for real (as real people) but is really a fan dream sort of ending. so pretty much for fans only. I wouldn't watch again but it wasn't horrible).
Tame Gumiho. Bland childish female lead. Nice but unremarkable drama
I enjoyed it but I think the high rating is because I hadn't seen a decent drama in a long time so this was much better in comparison.Be warned there are alot of product placement for Subway & ramen !I was disappointed that although the male lead did magical things like freeze time & instantly transport, it did really nothing that made me think Gumiho anymore than I would vampire. I would have like to have seen more things that were fox-like & more manifestations of his animal persona. As it was he seemed very tame. I wasn't 100% sold on the female lead. The lead's chemistry was fine, but not off the charts. This is another case where I blame casting & the writers. Basically the female lead as a bit too childish, silly, not interesting enough & they never really made me feel like there was a reason that she stood out from other females so there seemed no reason for the lead male to find her intriguing (especially after 999 years of meeting So many females !) The series did a much better job of selling the second lead's romance. I gave this less than 10 stars because it was heavy in some parts & I needed a break from it some days. For the most part the tropes were minimal & quickly resolved. I found it incredibly tedious that a rejected male confessed himself to the female lead over 3 times and just wouldn't take no for an answer. It was cringingly pitiful & not well done. Just as annoying was the way the series connected siblings of other characters in the end so that Mr. Pitiful was going to be even more pitiful because of that story line (which thankfully we never have to witness)The end was a little anticlimactic with the warm fuzzies as the male lead really longs for a family but he never says so to anyone & the romance, though happy in it resolution is rather bland, where they could have given us a proposal & segway into a wedding & hence a family that the former Gumiho longed for
Not a comedy or romance (not sure what to call it besides a dud)
Starring one of my least favorite female actresses, where do I begin to loathe ? The guys aren't good looking, infidelity, rude discussions abound. This is not only badly filmed, but it also looks like a much older film. Not a comedy, not a romance. Instead it's sad, depressing & heartbreaking. When you see the old lady talking about how the main character's married mother shook her backside at a man & went off into the tall grass with him...that's how crude this movie is. When you see the pigs mating & the villagers cheering them on...that's as light hearted as it gets.
The only single guy on the island of marriageable age is a Lothario (man who behaves selfishly & irresponsibly in his sexual relationships with women.) whose kissing scene is gross, really disgusting. ( sloppy kisser!)
Overbearing female, weak male. Unsatisfying lead romance
I saw Noh Min Woo in My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho & was hoping to see him as the lead in a romance, but this drama had him playing an idiot-so Wow , the guy can act ! But Euw ! His part was cringy. I never could see him as an adult & a man. He was NOT attractive- just very childish. The story was interesting but the romance just didn't work with such a strong female & such a weak male. He really was Unfortunate to fall in love with a woman who really was as selfish & self focused as she was .They should have had him overcome his trauma & come out much more mature. I kept waiting for the moment when he would slick back his hair & look less goofy & more dashing. but that never happened. They do have him showing quite ALOT of skin at times & he is ripped, but his hotness is dampened 75% by his lacking mentality ( it didn't seem like innocence) . Crude elements pop up very so often, but mostly it's highlighting how the main characters are for the most part innocent. Other characters make fun of that as it's a rarity & yet to a few it's an ideal.(both a strength & a weakness) I was disappointed to see that they had the usual drama trope of separating the couple before reuniting them. The secondary couple was really lacking in chemistry & honestly, Jung Yoon Hak was aloof & inscrutable for most of the drama. It was hard to figure out if any of his feelings were genuine. I felt a bit cheated that the secondary couple had a more romantic resolution than the main couple .
amazing passionate music scenes, but shoddy uncertain ending
I loved the way they used the music, it really made you focus on it & appreciate it when normally it would just be in the background. I would have rated it higher buteven though it was well acted & the music was great it had a Clumsy unsatisfying ending
couple go through heart rending trials only to have a tidy conclusion. really, how could the writers leave the relationship so unclarified or even to point us to what was next for their relationship ?
Bromance but no romance. Friendship is front & center theme.
It feels wrong to give such a low rating to a movie with 2 impressively hunky leads who spend a good deal of time barely dressed & flexing for the camera, but there were too many swimming scenes and not enough scenes with more important things that would have helped the movie feel more cohesive. Scene transitions felt chopped and it really effected the impact of the story. Bromances abound but the romance was just a tease . This is not a movie about coupling and the happy ending is all about friendship. Only watch if you are fans of Lee Jong Suk & Seo In Guk, but beware, this won't let you be biased as they both exude off the charts charisma
Friendship theme. Some cringe worthy humor.
There were some crude moments that I could have happily done without and some of the humor was cringy. This would have been a disaster as a series, but as a movie (& as a free movie!) it was decent entertainment. I liked how it was about inclusion & that the male rivals ended up supporting each other. I'd say that "friendship" was the theme & how people are better together than alone.
Cartoonish Dirty slapstick humor . Female lead is bland, Male lead is charming
This is the first Taiwanese Drama I watched & There are SO many cultural references that are not translated, so there's alot that just is inexplicable to me.The humor, while brilliant in it's execution, is punctuated with sound effects. It's like they're imitating cartoons. so when someone is surprised there is a "boing" noise and at the same time, two people turn their heads in unison, which looks incredible, but the joke itself is not to my taste.
The main actress is bland & boring & her best friend is odd looking & childishly constantly whines. The operations manager acts like a rude cartoon character. The selfish & mean female manager (that every guy is crazy for) looks like an American & wears the same expression on her face throughout the series. The physical comedy is like the 3 stooges but dirtier. the series gets bogged down in the middle as they stretch out problems that really were already resolved .I started to feel numb & began to hate the characters for being so stupid. There IS a happy ending, but getting to it is painful
high score for the male lead.
Ensemble drama with great bromance. Melodramatic . Clever cases.
This is not a rewatch for me even though it's a nice ensemble drama with a great 3 way bromance. I took off points because they didn't give me even the tiniest bit of romance with the couple I wanted to have it and I didn't care about the couple that did have a romanceit was more melodramatic than I liked. Cases are clever. Male lead's character is kind & chill, using some unique machinations to get the desired results. The client's conflicts were stressful.{I don't find angry family conflict a form of entertainment} This was a good series, & everyone did a good job, but if they had given the leads even a small bit of romance it would have balanced out the unpleasant parts
Engaging Docu series that I Wanted to love more
Engaging Docu series of making an 8 song album (writing all the music & lyrics himself) & showcasing it before 1,000 people all within 100 days (made for Netflix series) I was unsure just how much of this was scripted but it was nice to watch him interact with IU, his Hospital playlist actor friends & others, but it was also disappointing that they didn't give him more useful feedback. Also, I found myself wishing that he just had more time to turn the perfectly good songs into works of art .The showcase at the end featured his wife Gummy, ( former mega star singer, who I was unfamiliar with) . It wasJo Jung Suk showcase BUT She sang 3 songs, & yeah she's talented but I think it was the wrong call to have her featured in the showcase so prominently because it felt like she was stealing his "thunder" as the crowd responded way more enthusiastically to her & it broke my heart a little for him (because , I really do think that give more time & polish his songs could have been char toppers).
Intertwined multiple stories, only one of which is appealing.
the rating is perhaps inflated due to the one (of 3 stories lines) that appealed to me.Specifically, the Cinderella storyline is sweet & really watching the lead male smile is all the reason you need to enjoy this short drama.
It took me A long time to hunt this down so that I could watch it (ended up finding it on Plex). The multiple stories were woven together well, but they tried too hard to make too many romantic happy endings. Weirdly the males here were all kind of clueless & Honestly, most the stories didn't appeal to me (not alot of warm fuzzies except from one couple). With the older couple, it was never clear to me who the father of the older woman's daughter was & it was super awkward that the older man really didn't seem to want a romance as he was still very much in love with his dead wife. The storyline of the girl who had a long time crush on one of her best friends-fell flat as her crush was (apparently accidently ?) really sending mixed signals & actually didn't seem all that interested in getting married (he also didn't seem like a "catch" ). I really cringed at the way they resolved the guy who was planning on committing suicide's story. That really felt forced. The Hotel CEO's story was cute, but I wanted to see him to follow his creative dream, so his choice was disappointing. Everyone (important) DOES get thier happy ending & overall it was an enjoyable movie.
One more candid comment:
The Christmas content that was sprinkled throughout hits differently as there is a cultural disconnect -so it doesn't evoke the same meaning as it would in the U.S.
Violent & dark. Throws shade on legal system. Not actually very entertaining
The lead does a great job, but this was too dark & too violent for me. Any heroism is overshadowed by the sense of outrage that bubbles up out of you as it's in your face the whole time just how horrible & lacking the South Korean laws are [IF any of the content was based on reality]. It succeeded if it's goal was to expose how bad the South Korean legal system was- because there were so many ex prisoners running around free (albeit with ankle monitors on). By the end I was disturbed & wanting to fund a group of vigilantes to remove the evil repeat offenders from societies' enablement. So, sadly, not very entertaining or inspiring.
Very little levity, very little romance & was more serious & bitter than sweet
I only watched this because it had Jo Jung-suk in it ( & it was free!). He's Playing the same type of character as in in Hospital playlist (gentle, mild, nice). But this drama is spoiled by the lusty ghost trying to find a way to have sex. If that's funny to you, then my review will not be helpful.Kang Ki-young's & Kim Seul-ki 's characters were written & directed so badly so that they come across crude & irritating . The drama quickly turns serious, then melancholy, distasteful, and then childishly crude. There is very little levity & very little romance . There is character growth, but by the end, Park Bo-young 's character is disappointingly more like the ghost than herself. The 1-2 year time gap at the end grated on my nerves & was made worse by Park Bo-young 's lame excuse for not keeping in contact (which just felt disingenuous, selfish, cruel, & unloving). So while there were mostly happy endings, there wasn't much sweetness or warm fuzzies.
**( Spoiler: no ghosts have sex in this drama)**
