The way they have written this story makes the husband feel so irredeemable. He has been cheating for years and honestly hasn't interested in being intimate with the FL. He doesn't care about her enough to donate his liver even though she's slaved for him and his family for the past 20 years. He doesn't support her dreams or really care about her well-being. Literal strangers treat her better than him.

But I think it's better that 2FL didn't cozy up to the FL. Like it would be evil of her to pretend to forgive the FL for getting with the guy while she's doing basically the same thing. I do think in a world where she wasn't the mistress, we would be more sympathetic to her dislike of the FL. Like even if someone apologizes, it doesn't minimize the betrayal and hurt that was done.

I don't think he was ever in love with her. I think he's possessive of her because of pride and can't stand to see her happy. He's a narcissistic prick.
