However, according to the teaser of next EP and how this EP ended, it’s clear that it’s now time for Jiu to be on screen as often as any of the main characters.

The length of the episode is pretty normal here in Thailand as our national prime time is during 20:30 - 22:30 hr. each day. Because of this, major Lakorns need to be able to fit within this time slot so 2 hours (ads included) is very normal.

It's during World War II when Japanese soldiers were using Thailand as their base. It should be in the same era as Sunset at Chaophraya (2013 TV Series) and Behind The Painting (2001 Film) so I think Khun Chai is falling in the timeline of 40's.
I see people are debating about how many episodes this Lakorn would have. I think I should share more insight on how Lakorn Format is in Thailand so you guys get to know more of what to come.
First of all, Khun Chai (To Sir, with love) is part of the 'Reuan Series', which is consisted of countless Lakorn in the series but the storyline is not shared among them. However, every Lakorn in The Reuan Series has something in common. They are focusing on the conflict in the clan and how each family are striving to be the best and to get it all. You can also expect some black magic and poisonous medical recipe, which are also the things that are shared between each Lakorn in this Reuan Series.

Based on other Lakorns in Reuan Series, 28 episodes is absolutely normal. You should know that we used to have Reuan Borrapit with 34 Episodes long. However, each episode has 60 minutes of running time and it aired 4 straight days per week back then. But For Khun Chai, as it's aired only 2 days a week with around 120 minutes per episode, I predict that it could easily get 24 - 28 episodes. (Reuan Sa-nae-ha used to air 120 minutes per episode, 2 days a week and it has 24 episodes in total as well.) Anyway, I believe there's no official statement on how many episodes Khun Chai would have yet.
As for whether you would still feel attached to the story if it's that long, you don't have to even worry about that. Normally, Lakorn has multiple plots and each plot moves so fast. It's true that you will have to stay with the family drama for long but there are many new elements throwing in on the way to the final episode to keep you posted. So if you ever decide to sign up now, be prepared that you would have to stick with it for around 2 - 3 months and you will also be surprised with so many plot twisted to come.
As for Khun Chai (To Sir, with love), it's the first Lakorn ever in Reuan series that features Gay protagonist. It's announced as a major Lakorn in Reuan series and is one of the biggest budget Lakorn from One31 this year. They are not subtle in making it clear that the plot will be resolved around Tian and Jiu (Film and Jam), a lead gay couple of the series. So you don't have to worry that you would be baited to believe that it's a LGBTQ without focusing on LGBTQ elements.
As it's already aired 4 episodes here in Thailand, you can expect to see more of Tian and Jiu in action from EP2 and onwards. However, the story is not yet moving to the point where it's focusing on Tian and Jiu yet but it should be there very soon because the pacing of each episode is very fast and it doesn't spare us with any useless time on screen. So grab a popcorn and be ready for a long ride of emotions if you have already signed in or if you are planning on signing in for this.
