An Expected Disappointment that I never wished.

I want to say something personal first.

My memories save the first 10 episodes only as the best vibes, and I just assume the last 3 episodes have nothing to do with 2gether The Series.

I think almost all of us felt SOTUS vibes from the earlier episodes of 2gether. This is one of the reasons why I liked 2gether’s story. It had charm, a heartwarming feeling, and those comforting vibes that stay deep inside after knowing the whole story. We loved the characters and the preciousness of their storylines.

What this re-scripted series lacks are the essential elements from the original storyline and the freshness of the production team’s mindset. I think they believed that turning such a fun, cute, and meaningful story into melodrama at the last minute could hit among the series’ fans, and that the emotional connection between the series and the fans could become stronger.

I think the answer “No” would come out altogether.

I can accept that the 2gether team wanted to make the series feel different from what we had already seen in spoilers everywhere. But the biggest mistake was the inconsistency of the main characters.

The worst thing was changing Pam’s character into a female villain just to hit a melodramatic twist at the last moment. Pam’s character in the series felt cheap , one of the most hateable characters I’ve ever seen in any BL , and it made no sense at all.

And again, the scriptwriter and production team used Sarawat from the novel, but they never valued that character. They destroyed him episode by episode, and by the time episode 12 arrived, the Sarawat we all knew was no longer there. And Tine too.

Tine hugging Mil, who was clearly flirting with him , and knowing that , yet hugging him back, was completely ununderstandable.

It had the potential to become a top-tier BL series among all after the earlier episodes, but they chose their way not to be that , by disrespecting the depth of the characters and the original story.

Overall, I can’t help but say this became a flop series. It’s not that the actors had no chemistry, and the series was not overrated at all in the beginning. The thing is, the actors had more chemistry in the beginning (during the fake-dating part), but after each episode that chemistry slowly faded away until the final episodes. The chemistry in the final episode felt more like brothers rather than lovers, and everything that happened in episodes 11 and especially 12 were things that people who are truly in love would never do.

Sarawat would never turn his back on Tine, let Tine run away crying, and prioritize staying behind to clear things up with Pam first. He would never let Tine be taken away by another guy who was openly flirting with him. He would have gone to the hospital when Tine was seriously ill , but he didn’t. That’s not Sarawat. And Tine is not the kind of person who would hug everyone back so easily. Pam also was never meant to be such a destroyer or cheap type of girl.

The earlier episodes made me desperate to find the original story because I couldn’t bear waiting for each new Friday episode. When I found and read the whole story, I became an official diehard fan of 2gether. The first three episodes alone made me that kind of person , meaning that the series had so much potential and I gave it too much hope.

But let’s say, what if I put that hope aside? This series is still fun and enjoyable on a basic level. Sarawat–Tine (Bright–Win) made every BL fan’s Friday brighter and more fun than usual. They stayed in our hearts.

It’s obvious that Director P’Champ tried his best and did everything with good intentions, so I don’t want to put the blame on him. Everyone will always have something to improve , no one’s perfect. Win also tried his best, and the result came out excellent even though he’s one of the newest actors there. Bright is deep-minded and hardworking. The rest of the acting crew also took full responsibility for their own characters.

Without the original storyline, the actors, and the director, this series could have become a total mess with such a narrow-minded producing team and lazy, stereotypical, and disrespectful scriptwriting.

Another thing I want to point out again is the “Tine” titled song. It should have been a cute, romantic love song (at least that’s what I assumed), but it turned out to be a confusing sad song. Don’t get me wrong , I loved that song right away after I listened for the first time. I’m just saying it’s not suitable to represent Tine. It’s another big mistake in my opinion.

Besides all the things I mentioned above, the series is still enjoyable, and Scrubb’s songs are way beyond superb. The music, directing (especially episodes 1–10), and acting are superb to me , at least more than worth watching.

I gave it a 9.5 score after 5 episodes, but now I’ve sadly reduced it to 8.0. I didn’t expect that, and I really didn’t want to lower my rating — this is actually the first time I’ve ever reduced my score for a series. Maybe it’s just the result of hoping too much for something.
