I think one can re-use a storyline / cliché if it's still done well or maybe sone from a different or more nuanced perspective. Immorality/ long life is very common in fantasy, but it still can be interesting to see how those characters perceive time, their relationship with people who live far less and with more eternal things like nature and other creatures who live longer like them. Some anime have done it really well like for example To Your Eternity, Frieren, Ergo Proxy...the are also some decent films and series like mr nobody, in time, altered carbon...Unfortunately this drama seems to be more about the fluff and multiple repetition of dramatic big reveals of notions we already discovered.
