No, there was no accident. He recognized the face but he didn't know her name. He always thought she was a boy in high school since she was a tomboy. In school the other boys would tease her about being manly to the point of calling her gege instead of meme. Yes, he did think he fell in love with a boy. All of this is cleared up by episode 2

We are just kind of upset that she has chosen revenge over riding off into the sunset with her man. Its right there in the synopsis and we are only 12 episodes in but it was like a surprise even though it shouldn't have been.
I personally am upset with her because I could forgive her hurting the ML the first time coz she really didn't know. Its the second time where she had all/most of the facts and chose to do and say hurtful things to him to protect him as she goes after her revenge.
I will be over it by tomorrow and watch the next episodes though because am leaning towards thinking she was right to want to get her revenge. Her enemies are evil and wont let her off even if she chooses to rid into the sunset.

She was torn between the two at that time but only chose the one who goes on to become emperor because she thought he had saved her life while it was actually the ML. They were at a festival wearing the same clothes and chose the same masks (coincidences that only happen in dramas). Chances are that the emperor pulled some shenanigans to get his brother to give up the throne and her. She persuaded ML to fight for and thus helping him secure his position as emperor.
