I keep hoping they'll surprise us and use his voice to dub over the screechiness of Dylan Wang. A girl can dream,…
Oh yeah it's definitely dubbed. And I agree. All I see is Dao Mingsi. I wish they would've aired his republican drama before this, to at least get him to stretch in another role that wasn't something that had a history and expectations attached. It's not fair to him. I'll also continue watching, I invested so much in reading the novel, I want to know how this goes.
He's supposed to be scared and protective of SS, not this flighty, flirty teenager, even with SS directly. I think…
It's religion - like VERY HEAVY religion themes. He wants to kill Buddha, it's insane. There's also time travel, they don't tell you in the drama, but NQ is a bit like the main character from Joy of Life (same web novel author) in that they're reborn from modern day Earth into some sort of alternate reality ancient China. The Moon doesn't exist in this China, for example. Did I say it was pretty wild? It's pretty wild lol. The ending is directly related to this concept of "a new world" so I think it'll be quite different from the novel and they'll focus on the love story instead. There's also skinship in the novel, and Ye Hong Yu has a very violent past which affects the way she treats her body, but idk how much either they'll show.

I'm also wondering if it's a different writer, it wouldn't surprise me. From what I've seen, it's following it, but for sure skipping some real character development (does that even matter? Lol....) The novel itself is epic, but it gets petty wild on the 2nd half. A lot of it is then running away from people that want to kill them, and then the war between Tang and everyone else. I don't know how faithful they can remain without running into censorship issues. There will come a time when they're both separated and SS, um, changes.. and after that is when you see the real character development for her and NQ. That part I really hope they stick close to the source, as it's very emotional.
Getting use to a different cast may take a while but the editing feels different as well. In the first ep everything…
He's supposed to be scared and protective of SS, not this flighty, flirty teenager, even with SS directly. I think more than the actor, it's the script. This has a different tone than the novel, unfortunately. EN1 was more faithful in *tone*, generally. I also felt ep1 was very rushed, you don't get to connect with the characters you're introduced to (and these are not throwaways like some of the xiling people) and off they go. it's like it's made for people that didn't watch EN1 and don't care about continuity.
Do you think they can get it all of rest of book in this part I’m hoping for season three
You know what, I think there's some confusion. Lian Lian is billed here on MDL as playing Xia Tian, the empress, but this article says she's replacing Tong Yao, not Shi Shi, who played her in s1. https://cfen.si/2020/01/10/ever-night-2-releases-trailer/The empress is more important than the princess in the development of the story, I think, however the princess lives longer (lol) so who knows.

Ahahahaha I'm driving my friends and people on the internet crazy, so you're in good company. The ending of the novel had him physically creating a new world, to destroy Haotian's world. It was possible for him because since he was not from Haotian's world, her rules did not apply to him. It's convoluted, to say the least, and they totally skipped this part of his characterization in s1, so I don't expect it to come up in s2. But it's beyond epic. I mean, this guy literally displaces God and destroys God's world.
I think instead, if this is the last season, it'll end with the babies and just their love story. If it's not, and there's a s3, s2 I think it'll end either with his rescuing her in xiling or with her riding the chariot with the blue dog into the sky (no idea how they would explain all that without going into the whole weird chessboard world crap).

Omg yes sooooo much still that I missed that wasn't shown, that's actually important!! So maybe there'd be enough content for a third season? But that last part is so weird and all over the place... I can't imagine what kind of narrative would be constructured that makes sense and would pass the censorship test.
The fact that you see him being tortured in xiling, you know it doesn't end with the transformation, it goes on to her going away and coming back, and him rescuing her.
When I read that fight between Fuzi and Haotian, I thought that'd be the cliffhanger to end s2. But then there really isn't any other natural cliffhanger till the end, that would be enough to make into another full season.
And by the way, the end makes no sense without the narrative that he's from another world to begin with. No idea how they're going to talk about that, unless they just switch to the love story only and have a predictable ending.
I assume the Verdant Canyon fight is just the first one, since to your point he hasn't lost his arm yet.
I saw from an early bts Yang Yang saying that we will see them getting married. There's that, at least, but that does happen before the transformation. No way we're seeing a naked Fuzi or all the steamy scenes between NQ and SS, and revealing fight scenes between Ye Hong Yu and NQ (which is a shame, her badassery accentuated by her using her body as a weapon is so unreal).
I'm really curious as to where this season will end. They do show some out of sequence stuff in s1 that comes after the fight with Xia Hou, so I wouldn't be surprised if they also go out of sequence on s2, to some extent.

For what it's worth, what seems to be left out of the trailer is all the kerfuffle in the sinkhole and the 1000 years with/against Buddha in the chessboard, also they didn't show the Drunkard and the Butcher, though at least this last one appears in the cast list. Like mentioned above, it's all the religious/philosophical stuff that's long-winded, but the fights during those parts, except the chessboard which was just weird, are awesome. I think they'll cut out a lot.
They did show a tree which seems to be the bohdi tree by the sinkhole (and later in the academy. That whole part would be sad if left out).
I wonder how big a role Ke Haoran will actually play in the story, and his donkey. And Ye Hong Yu's back story. I really fear they'll compress a lot, and what remains isn't really enough to construct a plot for a third season.
