you should give it a few minutes to see yourself BUT as you can see with the majority of the comments, its extremely boring and the story is going no where for it being only 8 episodes. its a supernatural, fantasy, action show but 90% of the episodes are them having food or talking

i just enjoy it a lot right now because a lot of transmigration shows/novels/etc where the character comes from modern times, its like they forgot they had certain skills! so im glad her cooking ability is a big part of the show

really enjoy this one because the plot centers around her cooking with palace politics being the subplot (at least so far) :P

acting is fine here but the plot only exists 5 minutes per episode cant tell whether this is a slice of life or an fantasy action
i also think the costumes are kinda weird lol

thats because in a lot of cultivation dramas and donghuas, the supposed "righteous sects" are a lot of the time the main villains that are greedy and immoral, while the supposed "demon sects" emphasize free will
obviously this isnt always the case, but this is just one theme in a lot of these kind of shows!

ye i understand what u meant. yeah, i just believe that back then mothers were the caregivers -- in charge of households. while the fathers were in charge of court/official affairs. so home is where the mother is (the warmth)

im not sure which episode you are up to, but the latest episode she finds out that her father is not as clean as she thought after hearing what he did to the mom

but, perhaps it's rooted in old teachings -- i believe mothers and daughters has a stronger bond than father and daughter. so maybe theyre emphasizing this bond where a daughter yearns for a mother's warmth lol. but this is just a common trope/element tbh

honestly even without this big scandal this drama is mess at like ep 10 onwards lol its a waste of time
