I liked a lot your last paragraph. The drama generates a lot of "want" for the audience.

In a room yes, but not in the situation they were, about to fall, on the edge of the wall. But it's not so important, I liked more this zombie drama than Walkind dead.

Writer Park Hye Ryun evaluated the island part, and didn't go in the survival. It's a choice because it's sure she watched the movie "Cast Away", that is about the rough life of a man alone on an island. In episode 2, a character speak about that movie.

Anyway, now I think you are angry with the drama. And it's sad, probably you won't enjoy it no matter what. Certainly, I can understand, I've got this kind of reaction for some dramas. Maybe you will drop it?

I'll watch it closely. I think this writer create magic and master storytelling like few of the best kdrama screenwriters, in her own style (often thematic about warm, tenderness, healing, crying scene coming from happyness, making dream comes true, achievement).
The way she build the scenes in episode 1 was awesome to me. Many means used to create the highest emotion. But each episode 1 of her other dramas are great too.

I agree the island part lacks some raw reality, as I already pointed out. Survival isn't the point of this. Quite the contrary, the director paints a dreamy atmosphere of the place where she lives. Clearly an artistic choice. But if I had to make a change on this part: I'd make Mok Ha sings a Ran Joo song while she stroll around.

About the boat, hiding won't solve the situation, when the boat go ashore later. And where to hide? Even if they report this to the boat manager, the law will be on the father side.
Also, it's Ki Ho decision: he feels a bit guilty and want to spare her any anguish. His plan is to stop her father before the boat start. I think it's enough relatable, and what provide the best emotion for the scene. Plus, it needs the time of the revelation of Ki Ho's past for Mok Ha when she looks his photos. After, the bag is gone in the fight.

I understand the writer choices. If she wanted to write a 100% realistic story, I'm sure she could. Just, what the point to do this if it can't trigger emotion for the audience? How many dramas have far more problematic issues? Probably I can find a lot.

Taking a drama from your list: All of Us Are Dead. I remember I noted a list of inconsistencies in this. I don't have the list in my memory except this point: An explosion make a building explode (or invaded by fire). However, when they go into it after that, it's a bit too much clean. And even: there is a plastic curtain intact! When it should have melt.
Oh! I remember another one: when two boys are in a dangerous situation on the wall of the school, and what they do? They talk about the girl. It was silly.

After full rewatch and taking care, I understand more the family situation.
Thanks to last scene of episode 2, a flashback continuing a previous scene.
At this point, it's easy to miss that after the big emotional scene just before.

Two brothers: Woo Hak and Bo Geol.

Hypothese 1:
The mother of Ki Ho quit her husband, the policeman Jung Bong Wan.
She's probably Song Ha Jung.
For a reason I don't know, Ki Ho goes on the island with the father.
About the other brother, he goes with his mother.
The mother finds a new man: Kang Sang Doo.

Hypothese 2:
Quite the same, except:
The mother of Ki Ho quit when Ki Ho is a new born.
One year later, she give birth to the son she have with Kang Sang Doo.

After the tragic events 15 years ago, Ki Ho escape from his father.
He goes to live with his mother... Song Ha Jung.
And they change the name of Ki Ho, so he can't be find by his father.

Until now, I was thinking Bo Geol is Ki Ho, but I'm not sure anymore.
For that to work, it needs Bo Geol to be the older son.
However, Ep2, 38:45, Woo Hak says he's older of one year than Bo Geol.
And two times in the episode, he says Mok Ha and him have the same age.
So it makes Woo Hak a valid person to be Ki Ho.

But maybe it's one more red herring?
And we'll learn later that Ki Ho was younger of one year than Mok Ha at school?
Anyway, it's not the point, I was trying to understand this family.
And we don't know why Woo Hak lose his memory.

I don't like plot-holes but didn't find ones. Nor stupids things.
You should make a list for valid critisism.

End of episode 1, there is a montage scene.
Ki Ho waits before the clock (not sure, looks like a compas too?).
I guess it's the place and hour he said Wok Ha to go.

Different ages of him pass by. And we sees him without glasses.
So, as he grows up, he doesn't need glasses anymore.
Then the montage hides his face, ah ah! Sure we will see him again.
The writer hides who he is. To us to guess until it's revealed.

Before to rewatch Ep2, I'm rewatching ending of Ep1.
You were right!!! We see father body on the beach. From far away, with red shoes (To be sure, I check, on the boat he have red shoes).
My bad! It's crazy I forgot something so big and remember so many other details.

I also noticed how dense is the script. In previous scene, Mok Ha and Ki Ho talk about flowers of potatoes. And Bingo! It's useful when she's on the island.
This part is quite short. Not the best, because as a survival situation, she should be exausted more. Also, first thing she should feel is thirst not hunger. Water is first priority in this kind of situation. Well, I'm just picky. It's ok.

Title of episode: "fate or chance".
With a bit of logic I can imagine this: Ki Ho knows Mok Ha was lost in the sea. But he can't believe she's dead. It's why he subscribe in the eco-team cleaning beach of various islands, including the ones where nobody live. So, it's not by chance they find her 15 years later. We can say it's fate?

I'll rewatch episode 2, but just by looking quickly I found that line:
Ep2, 02:40. In their house.
Woo Hak says to Bo Geol: "you're volunteering today"
It's Bo Geol subscribing in the Eco-Team. We even learn Woo Hak doesn't do that and doesn't like to go on boats or gets dirty by cleaning. So, if he finds Mok Ha, it's by Chance.

The screenwriter cleverly hide us the first moment when Bo Geol sees Mok Ha, but I guess it will be told in a flashback later.
EDIT: I missed the timeslot. We see a bit of this at 08:56.
Hard to make a conclusion, Bo Geol is as expressive as a dead fish.

Ep2, 10:00. On the boat.
Woo Hak looks on internet with his smartphone and say Mok Ha is orphan. The director do an insistent shot on Bo Geol face when he hears that. As if "it's not really that, I know the truth about her" or he remembers her.

Now I have to rewatch because the situation is still strange and I don't know how Ki Ho could be Bo Geol and how he landed in this family.

Watch King of baking, and enjoy how the writer flips the script. ^^

How the revelation of Ran Joo is mother of Mol Ha the most awesome?
My imaginary scene was Ran Joo dies. Because I saw stuff like that in many dramas and it hits hard. But in the same way, a revelation uniting parents and children can be as much as intense. (I remember Hotel King about that, which is, as irony, a makjang drama as the penthouse's writer ones).

So here... I can just trust the writer. Yeahh, I really trust the writer. I watched all her dramas. Fuking excellent writer. I wait to watch something better than I can imagine coming from a master writer!

Not enough balls, but enough green ballons. ^^

Yep! And if I were writing the script, really, I'd choose Mok Ha.

It comes from a scene in episode 1.
Someone reveals that the singer Yoon Ran Joo comes from the same village on this island.
Whereas Mok Ha and Ki Ho's father have been left by their wives!

Conclusion?
Ran Joo is either Mok Ha or Ki Ho's mother.
Either way, this revelation will lead to a scene so intense it'll make you cry buckets of tears!

I bet it's probably Mok Ha's mother.
- More powerful.
- More logic, as Ki Ho and his father don't have the accent of the isle, and it's said Ki Ho is new in the classroom (maybe coming from Seoul?).
- It's why Mok Ha's father destroy her guitar and posters of Ran Joo. He knows Ran Joo is his ex-wife and hate seeing his daughter admire her, even she doesn't know it's her mother.

I can imagine the most heartbreaking situation like this:
- Mok Ha's father feel from the boat too. No information about him.
- Meanwhile, Mok Ha lived lot of moving moments with Ran Joo.
- The father comes back and kills Ran Joo.
- Mok Ha learns the truth, so it was her mother, but now it's too late...
... she's dead, and they will never recognize together as mother and daughter. 😭😭😭

Here a terrific theory, it's such a SPOILER that it could DESTROY your interest in the drama.

The writer use something symbolic to say that, and enhance the relationship:
THE SHOES.
Before they go on the boat, Ki Ho gives shoes to Mok Ha.
And say "when we step on the land, I'll buy you better shoes".

During all the time Mok Ha is on the island, she keep the shoes Ki Ho gave her.

When Mok Ha is rescued from the island and put a step on the land:
Bo Geol bought her a pair of white shoes.
She removes the pair Ki Ho gave her.
And Bo Geol help her to put on the new shoes.

Ki Ho is Bo Geol.
In any way, she never stop to wear Ki Ho shoes.

Note: In case I'm wrong (yeah, it's possible).
I still think about the symbol of the shoes as a truth.
So, if Woo Hak is Ki Ho, nevertheless, Male Lead here should be Bo Geol.
In this case, well... Start-up situation, the guy from the start isn't the guy of the end.
Some people will get mad again. 😅

As a way to make this understandable and more coherent, they are a team doing ecological cleaning of the garbage on the island beachs.

Writer Park Hye Ryun delivers deep and intense emotions right from the start.
She can break hearts made of stone in a flash.
I didn't get this kind of hit since a while in dramaland.

This writer is so awesome. And often, her ep1 are a blast.
She can make people cry right from episode 1!!!
