There wasn't any assumption on his part, he knew from the get go that DS just came to help without any expectation of getting help from HJP in getting into Sandbox.

I feel like their past connection is being somewhat exaggerated. Everything HJP has done to this point is only a part of paying back his 'debt' to grandma (we know this when he looks at the shoes that he was gifted by her) and on the other hand NDS went to the event only because he read SDM's letters.
