I'm only on part two and my immediate reaction is that this all could have been avoided if the parents had kept…
Yeah. The divorce was very harsh and I can't really imagine liking the parents. At the same time, I can't figure out why the twins didn't just keep talking to each other since they were close. These are rich people with cell phones and just because your dad and mom tell you not to talk, doesn't mean you can't like a facebook post now and again. Its like this family broke apart in 1911 instead of 2011. Anyway, they needed to invent some excuse to set up the undercover twin brother switch where he wouldn't know about his brothers life. So it is what it is.
I might actually read the novel on this one. But since its presented as a mystery/revenge story, I also don't want to know too much. I'm hoping that they take that mystery a bit seriously and don't get too caught up in the supergoo of OffGun "moments." Also hope Black stays in a coma a long time, since the less time the "twins" share the screen, the fewer awkward editing moments we'll have.
The other thing I hope they do is not drop the "Corsican Brothers" connection between the twins. Can't just bring that up in ep 1 and then pretend there's not some weird magic operating in the world of the series.
Good so far. I'm not sure how I feel about the tone. The subject matter is very serious, but sometimes the scenes…
In this series, Black seems to be aloof from everyone and angry. So its possible that he's never told anyone that he has a twin. Since no one seems completely shocked that he's been missing, its possible that he withdraws from time to time.
Was hoping that Hira would be free from Kiyoi so we could see him happy for a change. This series has been cruel to this character. Does he always have to end up on the ground? Yeah, I know, I know, Kiyoi is much nicer and has a better side in the manga. But unless they start putting up stills from the manga, we have what we have. And Kiyoi is unlikable. I think we need a scene were he picks up a kitten and pets it a little, because whenever we see him, he looks like he'd kick the kitten every time. Even when he's appearing in the commercial he doesn't look he's happy about whatever he's selling.
I know Koyama is drawing dead already, but they've made Kiyoi such a sourpuss that Koyama would be a better boyfriend based on on any measure that matters.
Nanon, my God. Stuck the landing on that kiss scene. I can completely feel him needing to cry after they kissed, and understand why he walked away. One of the best executed kiss scenes I’ve seen in ThaiBL, or any BL for that matter.
Can someone give me a brief summary of what everyone is talking about? All I see is comments complaining about…
While it probably isn't sexual assault, it certainly is a weird way to introduce yourself to a colleague. Rather than say, IDK, just telling someone who you are and why they would be interested in knowing you. Kind of falls in the category of "this guy is weird and rude." But then the staff appears to be o.k. with their drunken boss blubbering about jelly and licking their ears, which by their reaction happens frequently enough to have them scramble away when he passes out. These aren't rapey people...they are just really weird in a "What the Fuck is Wrong with you? Who the fuck does that?" kind of way.
At some point, we’re going to need one of these characters to spell out what this competition is. It’s important because a bunch of characters treat it as important, but I’m not yet sold that it is important. I’m not even sure I know what it is. Like they cook one dish one afternoon and there’s 3 chef’s left. It doesn’t appear to be a large competition at all. More like a winning a ribbon at a school fair. There’s nothing really at stake here except the character’s emotions. Or an inheritance. Or revenge against an ex love interest. And if you lose? You feel bad about it for two days and go back to doing what you did before. So what?
I think we need one of those scenes where Aek’s mom and Grandma are watching TV and some news anchor starts talking about this competition and says something like “in the past 100 years, every chef who has won has gone to live in Millionaire Acres, while the losers all die in a gutter 2 days later”. Some indication that there’s more than six people in the world that care about the outcome.
Lordy. From the description of the scandal it sounds like a relationship that went sour and that neither party could deal with the strains of celebrity dating life. I'm really not certain the moral standards placed on stars in Korea - not to mention the behavioral standards - are realistic. Demanding that stars in their early careers stay single so that fans can imagine dating them? Very hypocritical within a culture that puts tremendous pressure on non-celebrity young people to get married. He's 35. How long is his value supposed to be measured in being "single and available"?
So Vi-Phob called Eve, who drove all the way to the hospital to make one bitchy comment and then left? What would…
Aue "i love you Aek. I want you to stay with me forever. Let's make out and have sex tonight." Aek "Ewwws. Gross. You're ten years older than me. Like practically an old uncle. Get your hands off me, you pervy old man. I prefer young studs like this stranger chef who was hitting on me. I've got options and I'm not settling for creepy old men like you."
2 minutes later - falls down and breaks his wrist like he's 84 years old. Karma is a bitch that way.
Lordy. I was fine with the rejection. That was coming, since if Aek did have feelings for Aue, they would have been boffing late at night in the kitchen long ago. And its always felt a bit off that everyone in the restaurant is just o.k. with Aue hiring a cute boy off the street and giving him special treatment while checking out said boy's ass. Like everyone who's worked there for years is just fine with that and no one is the least bit jealous professionally of the speed at which new boy seems to get promoted. Someone had to be the spoiler, so it might as well be Aek himself.
But sheesh. I was fine with him punching Aue because he told him know and got kissed anyway. Lechy boss is lechy and needs a slap. But after that, the show just goes nuts for 20 minutes.
If I wrote the script, the reason Aek was fine sitting in the candlelight in some stranger's home is that he's been screwing around with clients as food delivery boy all along and is used to having dinner as the Bit Me Boy on Blued. But alas, he's probably just creeped out that his boss and everyone he knows have been conspiring together to get him to start a sexual relationship at his job.
So Vi-Phob called Eve, who drove all the way to the hospital to make one bitchy comment and then left? What would…
No need to play with his head when he'll just fall down and break his wrist and be unable to chop food properly. Heck, he won't even be able to open a jar to make a peanut butter sandwich.
The Good: Aww. Ice. Good to see you again there, buddy. Last we saw you, you were stalking Oil in Friend Forever. Weird that his legs just gave out right there in traffic. Right then. Just when you’d least want them to. Not sure how he’ll react when it comes time to remove his pants next time. I’m guessing this is the last time he’ll agree to do “anything” an artist wants.
The Meh: they kind of lost me when Valen dropped the cake for no reason. Otherwise, it was the first thoughtful thing he’s done.
I stopped feeling sorry for Non. He should have been brave enough to let Kaitoon know he was asking him out on a date. Both Non and Valen really fear rejection too much.
Kaitoon needs to respond to texts when his plans change. He’s not protecting anyone’s feelings by keeping the bad news away from anyone.
The bad: not really bad. They probably needed to set up the egg convo a little better. I think it was Kaitoon letting Valen know that he was willing to, well, mix it up with Valen in bed if he’d want to try. Kaitoon is those plain steamed eggs but the rest of the analogy is snaggy. Would have helped if we’d seen Valen complain about food before.
Wait... how did Santa "enter the industry?" I'm quite curious now, lol.
Santa was a fan of Earth. I wasn’t even sure he wanted to be an actor himself. Think of it as you commenting on your stan’s Instagram photo and you get chatting with him and then invited over to make a TikTok video and then the next thing you know, fans have decided to ship you. Santa is not an actor, the same way that Both is not an actor. He’s just NewYear’s dentist boyfriend.
The good: Santa was much better than I expected. Was worried that given his age and how he entered the industry that he’d be flat. So good on New and team for getting him prepped and seasoned.
Oreo! I missed you, dear. His character is a horrible human who I would like to toss some rocks at, but I’m still fond of cookie boy.
The Meh. I thought i looked swell and New is good at framing shots. I’m not sure how I Feel about the story flow. After the soccer fiasco when, jumping to the end of the school year seemed abrupt. That said, if they really didn’t talk to each other for three months or a year (I don’t really know how long), I guess there wasn’t any reason to show them not talking to each other.
Would have been nice for Tan to get some punishment, but sadly that’s not how life goes.
The bad: not really “bad” “bad”. But come on, New. You said that you wanted Earth to finally have a role where he could be happy, since his other roles have been sad. I was expecting a joyful story. But instead, Earth is crying in the first two segments, happy for a few minutes, then bullied and depressed for the last segment, That’s a “happy role” for New? I’d hate to see what would happen to Earth it New had set out to make him sad.
Episodes 3&4 O.k. I didn’t make the connection between Kaitoon and kai toon (steamed eggs). So even the few Thai words I know are lost out of context. Adorable name.
The Good: Jeff stands out in his brief appearance. I wonder if Sean has a thing for Kaitoon, too. Typical Uke problem. Can’t beat the suitors away with a stick fast enough.
Toon is all over the place in his treatment of Valen. I think he just likes teasing him. Otherwise he doesn’t think of him. Like how could he spend all that time working with him on his lines and not care about the performance. Not invested at all. Apparently he’s never watched a BL or a KDrama in his life. Never say “let me pretend to be your lover” if you don’t want to end up being lovers. Poor Non. It’s all over for you, hon,
The meh: So King lasted all of 30 seconds before ravishing Peat. Way to wait for an apology and explanation before giving in. King just looks cross all the time. I really can’t care until they let Peat tell his story. Some millionaire made him a sex slave for two years like they do in Japanese Yaoi. That must be it. That’s why he can’t talk about it.
As far as plays within screenplays go, I Guess this Beaty and the Beast seemed like something I’d watch. Better than that awful drama within Nitiman or the dreadfully cerebral snore fest play in I promised you the moon.
The bad: ugh. Randy delivery boy. Just go away. I’m wondering why everyone rubbed his shirt, though. I’m thinking it’s because it’s saffron stripes like a monk’s robe. But I’m not sure.
The Good: I like that Pak is giving BL another go. I adored Cupid Coach even with all of its problems and like that some of the actors involved with it are cast in other series. For the most part, Kaitoon is a likable character.
The Meh: Honestly, these boys need to learn how to apply first aid themselves. We've had 5-6 romantic bandage and antiseptic scenes through 2 episodes. I know what they are trying to do comparing the way Non wants to take care of Kaitoon and the way Kaitoon reacts to Valen doing the same, but its a bit much. These aren't babies. Stop it with the first aid kit.
The Bad: Definite 2nd lead syndrome going on already. Non is better than Valen in every way that matters and doesn't come with any baggage like, say, gambling addiction and mobster thugs. Kaitoon obviously enjoys his company and attention. This series should already be over since Kaitoon's choices are between a dish of ice cream and a dish of asbestos. BUT NOOOOO.....sigh. I'll date Non if no one else does.
They really need to tamp down a bit on the food porn. Although its better filler than the non-stop flashbacks that other series have been using a lot lately to stretch things out. Story not moving? Let's cut to some delicious food!
Overall, there’s more good than bad to the series. I’m hoping that a few of the actors get a chance to take one more pass at BL I liked that they mixed up the couples from Love Poison.
The other thing I hope they do is not drop the "Corsican Brothers" connection between the twins. Can't just bring that up in ep 1 and then pretend there's not some weird magic operating in the world of the series.
But I like ep 1.
