Title Lovely Writer Spoiler
Yeah. The actual title of the novel is something like "Gene counts to Ten" or something like that. Ten in Thai…
LOL. Like I can read the novel. I just know the title and had been wondering what that title had to do with the series I was watching. Now I know, too.

Okay, so I was really hoping I would disagree with everyone on this episode and like it, but I definitely did…
Huh? Step away from Mame mind here. Gene was looking after the kid and trying to involve him because he didn't want the kid to be alone. Did you ever have anyone younger next door neighbor in your life who needed to be included in a neighborhood game? Yeah, they didn't show a lot of playing together, because what was important for them to remember was that Gene was always kind to Sib and looked after him (although he was kind of a brat about the dragons). He wasn't grooming him for crying out loud. This isn't a Mame novel. This series is one where you really shouldn't be delving too deeply into your traumatic dark fantasies and accept what you see. The reason they aren't going to go where you want to go into some series where Nubsib was molested by his piano teacher and then fell into the arms of a creeper little Gene is that those revelations would derail the series and then force them off into a different direction and completely change how we feel about the characters for no reason. My guess is that the piano teacher was stiff and probably a punisher in a culture where corporal punishment is not considered to be a sign of poor parenting.

Actually, this throwback episode is one of the key episodes for the series. If you really watched closely, there…
Good catch on the Poky scene. Now if only they'd had time to show young Gene eating toast with mounds of strawberry jam.

The father in Tonhon Chonlatee had the same issue. I doubt they sent Gene to boarding school because of it like they did in that series.

Loved ep 7.
I liked that adolescent Gene has the same problem as adult Gene. He wanders off and you have to say his name multiple times to get his attention. Some things never change. Gene. Gene. Geeeeeeene!!!!!

Yay! Dragon mystery solved. Although I would have thought Gene would have remembered them, even when he was drunk. But that's kind of their issue at the moment. Sib has more powerful memories of their time together as kids than Gene does, which is why Sib is further along in their relationship than Gene is.

Yay! Gene's reason for being mad clearly articulated. He's never liked pranks, so the idea of someone from his childhood pranking him now reinforced in a flashback.

O.K. I'll buy Gene's reasoning for staging this ruse. Whatever. It makes sense, but honestly, who would do that? Makes sense that Bro is in on it. Because bro isn't all that bright. Like did anyone think of how they were going to unwind this scheme? That said, at least Gene got pissed about it and didn't become all passive uke "Oh, that's o.k. This is normal. Do what you want to me, I don't care." like another series I won't mention.

I'm really glad that they didn't add in some other unnecessary HUGE CHILDHOOD TRAUMA THAT'S BROKEN THEM SOMEHOW AND MADE THEM WOUNDED ADULTS BUT REALLY MEANS NOTHING EXCEPT WE WANT DRAMA. That's not the tone of this show. Yay! No layer of guilt to make the show edgy. Which is why I still hope they don't turn Aey into some really bad trauma monster like some other series that I won't mention.

On the other hand, after promising to be truthful going forward, Sib almost immediately lied to Gene about who told him where Gene was. Uh huh. I'm glad you're not a crazed stalker there, guy, and believe your story about why you were lying...but I get the sense that little fib is going to bit you in the ass before long.

I don't know why so many people think Yong Jie is so troubled to the point of needing therapy. Albeit, most teenagers…
Probably needs therapy because, well, what else are you going to do with him? You can't shoot him - that would be a very odd way to end a romance series.

The problem is that we have this character who just doesn't seem to be capable of selecting virtuous means for anything. All of his choices have been morally objectionable if not illegal, often when they did not have to be. Some are going to think that he's just an unscrupulous anti-hero with a sad back story but with a worthy goal, and since this is a romance, love pretty much trumps anything. Problem is, we've only ever seen him do bad things. Like he's incapable to choosing good means, like ever.

*Breaking and entering XS's house and rifiling through his computer is illegal and definitely isn't respecting his brother's expectation of privacy.
*Waiting in ambush for Muren to pass buy so he could punch him is also illegal and certainly doesn't respect Muren's right to, well, have XS as a friend.
*Offering to put sunblock on XS and then tweaking his nipple - feel free to chime in here, but there's some definite boundary issues with that.
*Plotting in advance to get XS drunk because he knows that XS will say "no" when sober. Yeah, that's rather unethical. Possibly illegal, but circumstances and the laws may vary. But really a reprehensible plan, all things considered. There's really no "grey area" here that makes that plan pass the "golden rule" test.
*Threatening to commit suicide if he doesn't get his way. Ummm. That's kind of a cry for help, although I doubt he would go through with it and was probably just doing it to manipulate XS. Regardless, probably should get his head examined after that one. Just because it "worked" doesn't mean messing around with suicide threats should be commended.

The problem with this character is that we've not actually seen him do anything positive. He only chooses to do things that are wrong. Even unscrupulous characters are supposed to decide not to do wrong things if those advance his or her goals. They probably should have given him an opportunity to show that he's capable of not choosing bad methods to advance his goals from time to time. Those who read him like he's a villain rather than a hero aren't that far off. Saying that "he just needs therapy" is a way to get around having to root character who is actually rather evil and needs some kind of punishment to balance things out.

It is not YJ's idea out of nowhere. When he had a convo with his mom, before their trip to the sea, it is mentioned…
O.K. I'm going to disagree a little bit on that. YJ is not a good person. And he does not have an understanding of this brother. To give one example, he punched Muren because he thought that Muren was XS's boyfriend or was interested in him. Good people don't do that. And he was very, very wrong about their relationship. They are just friends. He may say that he's doing what he is doing to bring XS back home, but that is because its a fairly safe assumption that gay Chinese men who are estranged from their families would like not to be. The story he tells his mother that he's worried that XS will die lonely and that he moved out because he is gay....well that may be true. One way for him to find out about that would be to ask him. But because XS might give different answers, he wouldn't.

Listen, kids. You had one thing to do. Survive 14 days in quarantine with a fairly benign but somewhat cheeky ghost. You could have invited him over for drinks and maybe a round or two of the King Game and left it at that. Could you do that one thing. No. You had to go invite more ghosts into the dorm so you could have a ghost kegger,

O.k. Chris getting knocked on his face when Jeno came to the gym had me laughing. Finally, they demonstrate someone falling head over heels for someone where they don’t trip and fall.

A full episode with no one announcing that they have to pee! Things are looking up.

I think the couples look promising, but I don’t know how much time I can devote to this one. With the exception of Arthur, these are basically good kids at a typical Thai BL High School where all the boys appear to be gay. Fujoshi’s make sense at this school, since it’s not like there’s much opportunity to date anyone anyway. Good kids, though, aren’t that exciting.

They can have a happy ending, but it would have to require a large time jump and lots of therapy - there's really…
Now, I'm not 100% certain that is his actual plan. But thats what he told his minion, I mean his mother and she believed it. But I don't think he's all that crafty to have a better plan. I mean, I guess punching Muren on the street was "crafty", but it didn't seem well thought out. He wants to have sex with his step brother and be considered a hero for that. His mother wants to play along for reasons I don't quite buy. In other types of stories he'd be the villain. Or some kind of Ogre who has come to "rescue" the princess from her quiet life in the palace that she'd probably prefer, but no one actually asks the princess her opinion most of the time. I don't think there's enough there to confuse him with a knight, though. XS was doing just fine without him.

BL is a demographic, not really a genre, so yeah, eventhough this is just a bunch of badly written plots, it still…
Yes. There’s a distance in writing and animation that doesn’t exist in film. Like in a comic it can be funny to have a panel where someone hits someone so hard, their socks fly off. In live action, that becomes way too abusive. In novels we gain more knowledge usually of what characters are thinking than we can on film, so it’s easier to clear things up.

They can have a happy ending, but it would have to require a large time jump and lots of therapy - there's really…
I honestly don't know what's her stake here. I think we're just supposed to assume that she's been indulging YJ because she feels guilty for having to work as a single mother so she needed to have others care for him for awhile. That and the belief that a family isn't a family if all the single children aren't living at home until they are married is supposed to be enough to explain her. Family comes first, so whatever less than ethical behavior she's showing in this mess is supposed to be understandable.

Just like we're supposed to assume that the father is some kind of tyrant who is clueless that his eldest son is gay (when everyone else in the family seems to know), but is going to have some kind of meltdown that will destroy the family forever when he finds out, unless somehow YJ is screwing his son. Then it'll be o.k. So why is the father indulgent towards YJ as well? Everyone's behavior and attitudes and schemes would make more sense if there was something larger at stake other than "unified family, together again at last". (It's actually kind of a lousy family, TBH, so its kind of like fighting over who gets grandma's ugly tea service as the motivation in a murder mystery. Who cares if this family can't get along?)

Yep. I’m not sure what a happy ending would look like. But this has tragedy written all over it. Yongie and his mother just assume that unless Xing Si needs to be with Yongie or he’ll die alone. They also assume that he has to move back home. They also assume that the father will accept this situation. But what will make Xing Si happy? Doesn’t he have some kind of say in this happy ending business? He’s estranged from his family. He’s estranged from his gay friends, who he hardly ever sees. Until this episode, he’s been closeted in his own house, even though he’s living with supposedly close friends. So what’s the happy ending for him? Married to his scheming step brother? Or something else.

I had to lol at the “fantasy” a little. Muren had stripped naked before his bath. In Lisheng’s dream, he put his clothes back on. His dream was very modest.

Welcome to big business and rich men in high up positions. This happens all the time. All The Time.
Oddly, I actually do work in the world of big business with rich men in high up positions. And 20 years ago, we cleaned up this kind of behavior where I work. It took a lot of work and a lot of people not finding it funny. But it can be done and it was worth it. So maybe my reality is different. “Reality” doesn’t have to mean “every negative thing that can happen, happens.”

Yeah. I understand that. Although as CEO, Xing Si could do much better. I hope this thing ends with Muse Weedings’ reputation in tatters. Would have been decent for the show to point out the reasoning, but really, nit isn’t a show about sexual harassment and attempted rape. It’s a show that uses those things to give us some sexy time scenes. No one is worse for wear from it. They seem content to let Xin Si blame himself for turning his brother gay. And Muren seems fine. Lisheng seems to be having the most difficult time, mainly because he’s found out that Muren’s p**nis is larger.
