Yes the scene with his mother in ep 40 is very poignant. He compares all the women to CSS and can't find one like her. He finally admitted it. You can see traces of how he feels when she is in danger. I love the punishment scene where LBY is punishing the officals for raising such despicable daughters and YS is right in there too. ♥

You will see later the dynamic relationship the Emperor has with both women. The three of them work together very well. They each bring their own characteristics to the running of the family. Consort Yue is actually who the Emperor married first. The now Empress was for political reasons. She has a pleasing personality so what's not to love about her. I love this trio and they get along very well. ♥

The Emperor took her aides lives easily. Now how does she feel when it happens to herself. I think she got the point. She is also confined to her palace indefinitely so we won't see much of her for a while.♥

Yes, I agree. LBY is far more secretive. I think the criticism of CSS is the fact she is triggering all the girls left and right. This drama has a physiological element to it as with the Mother << trigger bait. So with CSS << more trigger bait. It's said if you get triggered there is something in your life you need to look at more closely. Just food for thought.♥

The Emperor is so focused on teaching CSS and LBY about love why didn't he teach his own children? He goes to great length for them but his own family is a mess. Kinda doesn't make sense. It's just a story I know.♥

Will the 5th princess get revenge?

I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. The Emperor played it right to the line. ♥

YS is upset too with what the 5th princess did to CSS. So he does have feelings.♥

I think the pairing for his up close and personal drama is perfect with FL. She can set him at ease with humour. ♥

The guys fall for her because she is not the run of the mill girl. She would be interesting to live with. All the other young ladies are brought up in a cookie cutter fashion. Do this, don't do that. Stifles their character. Same goes in life. Never marry the same as yourself. How boring is that? Peace♥

I agree. I don't like her voice. It irritates me to no end. They dubbed her. So it's not quite as annoying.♥

Even Ming Lan was done in 2018. So 4 yrs ago now. I did enjoy that one too. The script was a bit messy in spots for Ming Lan. But I enjoyed it♥

I've watch drama of this genre that span from the early 2000's to now. Not all of them as they aren't available with subs. There have been a few that have caught my attention. It's up there with Nirvana in Fire 2015, Evernight 2018 (Wuxia), Sound of the Desert 2014. < historical, in depth character plot. Joy of Life, Sword Snow Stride more recently but they aren't as complex as this script.

Totally, totally agree with your take on FL. This drama is very in depth. In fact some of the people watching it may be over their heads. This is the best drama to come out in years from China. I've watched hundreds of them. I'm at the point now I will only pick the best and leave all fluffy ones aside, ♥

LBY's step mom is his Mom's distant cousin.

His mother (the crazy woman) is actually his real mother's sister. In other words his aunt. So the woman that is married to his (father) (His real father is dead) is a distant cousin. Complicated I know. LBY is the son of General Huo who died when Gu city fell. Both his real parents are dead. The aunt disguised him as her own son as her son died in the attack.
