Watched till episode 32... Bao Naaa, you LEGEND!!!! You're my new favourite character, you and Ji Chong!
"Bao Na, you mustn't be reckless" "It's too late, I am already reckless" (I want this put on a T-shirt!!!) Freaking looooove her!!!!!! <3
"Since you;re already so despicable, I might as well stoop to your level and take this to the end" <33333
And when Bo Wang was yelling at her to move and stop protecting Ma Zhai Xing she was standing in front of him, whole two heads difference in height and with all her inner strength(and she has so much of it!) was like... "Nope!!! " When her brother gives her the crown some day she's taking ya'll under her rule, she's sweeping your Yang and Jin with the force of the great typhoon that she is!
The Wolf has elements better and worse, but buahaha !!! Epiody 27 and 28 - I haven't had so much fun for a long…
I agree so much! Episode 28 was probably my favourite. I was laughing and enjoying myself watching his family dynamics, watching him interacting with everyone and show more of his personality in everything. Every scene with him, especially the last one of the episode makes me smile and make me fall in love more. Honestly, Xiao Zhan has so much charisma here, I can't tell why the series is not about Ji Chong. I haven't watched him in anything else - the moment he appeared in episode 11 i knew this guy would steal the show, it was evident. And now I finally get to enjoy a little bit more of him^^ I'm ready for The Adventures of The Eagle! He's just my type of character and my ttype of actor
I'm currently on episode 24, and in my opinion, the biggest strength of this drama are the actors. I honestly…
As for Ji Chong, don't tell me the end of the drama but like...I want a sequel called The Eagle ^^. He portrays his role so well and deserves to have a story of his own. XZ got something really right with this character and it could be build further, I'd be in for the ride!
What's the good and bad about this drama? Is it worth watching? (No spoilers please!)
The good are the actors. I particularly likethe acting of the emperor - Ding Yong Dai, Sean Xiao, Li Qin and every supporting actor(seriously, the supporting cast doesn't have a single weak performance, I'm amazed). The cinematography - beautiful shots, beautiful sets - both man made and natural - some perfectly edited scenes with great music that I'm listening for personal pleasure after the episodes. The plot has some rerally interesting parts that make you expect what's coming next but with time you do see the faults (for certain episodes, great faults and waste of talent for some actors). For me, the weak link is the romance, the overreacting in some scenes, the character of Ma Zhai Xing(which I liked in the beginning but I'll see what I think about her by the end). I don't seem to care that much about the main two "leads" because well, they are not leading the drama, other characters are :). The fact that I don't like them that much means that if the show ends on a tragic note, I won't be so sad about them, that's what I think xD But the wicked plotings of the emperor make me smile because of his performance(I'm rooting for him, although at the sime time I'm not), tha charisma and natural acting of Xiao Zhan also make me really invested in his character (that is turning out to be more interesting with each episode, although I wanted him to take another route but I can't spoil you ;d), the whole supporting cast is good and is adding to the plot big time. Those things make me want to watch more, I;m already too engrossed in the story. But it could be better, I can't lie (I'm saying it because I care, because I saw a potential, alas the story/writing is not the best). That however is a personal opinion since I don't know what is your take on dramas. I haven't watched it till the end, so as always, everyone, please don't spoil me xD
Nothing is a harsh word, always have the benefit of the doubt :) Also, the two shows are in different genres and will naturally bring different experiences. Grab a snack, rest back and watch The Wolf, it;s gonna be fine, it;s a good series (it has certain things done really right, others not so much but we'll see) . If it really turns bad by the end, I'm gonna tell ya, no problem ;)
Maaaan, they really missed an opportunity with the story arc and particularly the character of Ma Zhai Xing. Ireally…
Yes! I was so pissed off while watching her. That awful naive look, those empty eyes, the annoying childish laugh...it really was like watching a mad person, someone that is not in her right mind, she wasn't behaving normal. My sympathy for her is minimal right now and whatever happens till the end I think I won't be particularly moved by her character. She doesn't deserve my full respect. While watching I thought the emperor was right for wanting to kill her xD An the pretend marriage after that which was supposed to make me feel sorry for her...like, girl, no, you're not achieving that. Unfortunately, this all was done so that the plot goes as imagined in the beginning with no consideration for character building. She was shown to be overly positive, silly and naive so that after that she feels super betrayed and everything becomes over dramatic. But it wasn't done the right way in my opinion. They slipped, they gave the character too many hints and opportunities to not behave so childish and she still did and that's why it;s so unnerving and fake now that she screams her lungs out. I understand weeping the loss of her family but as for the romantic relationship, that betrayel was a stretch - it hasn't been exactly romantic for a long time, only her fake positivity made it look that way, they tried to make it seem as there actually was a beautiful illusion that she can believe in and be led astray BUT there wasn't. I don't think Bo Wang gave that many signs that everything is ok and perfect, she was the only one acting that fake in ep.25, so it seemed somewhat undeserved when she screamed WHY at him, as if the change happened so sudden that she could be so shocked- well, it didn't, the character was lead in that direction by bad writing in that part of the plot.
For those that have watched till episode 26. Please don't spoil me beyond that ;d
Just wanted to say one more thing...what the emperor did to her family in order for him to then use their military power...I'm sure it was not a precedent in history and while cruel I'm sure he was not the first one to do it. Hostages, like Ma Zhai Xing, are also not uncommon..but no body from her people saw through these things and she especially missed that given that she was living now in the palace close to the people that did it. Im sure she has read texts about previous rulers and politics, she should know better than to blindly trust in a situation like this. It was also evident Lord Bo was hiding biiig things from her but everything she could.think of in terms of the reasons is their romance from long ago and not the recent events. Him being Wolfie is not the big secret he was hiding but while she was capable of revealing that she couldn't see anything else - he also gave her many hints and if she took them and started revealing the palace schemings the story could take a couple different but interesting, at least to me, routes (At the beginning Ji Chong was going that way and if he stayed and continued seeing behind things, maybe even working with her and developing the "second lead" romance, I think it would be such a badass story of smart and brave characters). That's on the writers and it' s a missed opportunity for building the character. I hope they make the rest of the story good and make me forget about certain actions of Ma Zhai Xing :d
For those that have watched till episode 26. Please don't spoil me beyond that ;d
Maaaan, they really missed an opportunity with the story arc and particularly the character of Ma Zhai Xing. Ireally loved the show, that's why I got so pissed at the beginning of ep. 25. In an instant Zhai Xing turned into a little child! When the emperor said that she is smart and shouldn't be underestimated...that part of her had gone to waste now...at least for now, I don't see it. From the beginning they presented her character as an intelligent COMMANDERY princess(at least it was translated that way in the subtitles) and then in the wake of WAR she started acting out of character in order for their idea of the plot to take action. First, she easily agreed to lead the Ma troop as if it was going to be child's play. As if she had any previous experience as a general (it was not shown in the series)... Second, what was really unnerving, she started being all flirty, carefree, naive and downright DISRESPECTFUL to her troop, when Prince Bo said he was going to explain to her how to lead an army . That kind of behavior seemed so not normal for someone who willingly took the initiaive and responsibility for an army troop... Also, right then and there Prince Bo LITERALLY CONFESSED to her about what he has done, about what the emperor has ordered him to do AND about what was going TO HAPPEN. He REVEALED the emperor;s plans to her face! He looked her right into her eyes and told her "I am your enemy, I'm going to kill you and your people". Finito. Boom. He told her to learn to protect herself from him as he can't do it for her anymore, he told her to GROW UP (not literally told her but it was obvious for anyone I think) and learn what to do when facing an opposing side, to STAY ALIVE so that any semblance of a relationship they had is not in vain! And she was like "I can't heeeeeaaaaarrr youuuuuu????" xfvcb jkhdfhjgrtfihgujerioghje Tell me, like......what kind of a daughter of a general would spend a year after his death not doubting for a second what and who lead to his death. Anyne that is in any way close to a political position should know - people have interests, nothing is obvious and the moment something so big as wiping out an entire family happens and you;re the last one from that family...I mean, you should start growing eyes on your back ( at least, the fictional characters)! And she lived for a time with Prince Bo - she SAW with her own eyes he's changed, he has lived in a different place since parting ways in the wood and that place is THE ROYAL PALACE ITSELF. He doesn't grow flowers, he looks depressed all the time and not ones she asks what lead to thiiissss?????? ALso....Yao Ji told her, again, as all truths are told in this series - RIGHT IN HER FACE - THE WOLF HAS CHANGED. And then for a second she was like "Maybe you\re right, what could thjat mean....hmmm...maybe that he hasn't or I don;t have the time to think about it right now, bye... ". If she was the smart person even the emperor thought she was...she would sense that the behavior of Prince Bo is strange, that people don't change their moods frequently for no apparent reason...she didn't have to be a political mastermind to have a basic human sense of feeling the situation around herself. In that scene, in the beginning of ep.25, the main actor was given some very good lines, his character took an interesting and realistic turn and Zhai Xing looked at him, laughed and jumped right through his honest words and hope in his eyes for her to start seeing...jumped right into his arms because she was so sure everything is going to be alright since she is so good at battles in the first place.....She was obviously turning in the typical "cute", naive and blind chinese series heroine which is out of character for her and I felt sorry for the actress. I hope she was paid well for those awful moments ... Many things could've been solved with more communication between the main leads and for one thing I think if at that moment Ma Zhai Xing took the hint and believed at what he said...the series could take a very interesting turn and the next scene of their pretend marriage would have been that much more painful and full of sense. If she started believing his words that he's the enemy, or more like the enemy's tool. She could have understood so many things and even if she proceeded to fight him on the battlefield she would have shown maturity and would have made me feel sorry for her and her loss. In that way their doomed love would be that much more realistically tragic - when two people that had a beautiful past together now stood on opposing sides while not blindly hating each other but understanding and weeping the loss of even the new person their loved one has become, because they understood and loved even him/her. Or maybe if not taking that approach, maybe still proceeding with the hatred arc....it could have been done better in terms of building the characters (especially the princess). Anyway, I still really like th show. I was emotional exactly because I like it. Certain scenes from episode 25 ruined the FL in my eyes. I hope she finds ways to make me see her in new light but I am a little doubtful. Still, the acting of the emperor and Ji Chong draws me in, as well as most of the plot and many other amazing details (for example, the beautiful cinematography and near perfect editing of many scenes). PLEASE, whoever has watched after ep. 26 and happens to read my post, PLEASE don't spoil anything ;d Whatever happens, I wanna see it for myself, please again and thank you!
Is this worth watching? Came because of cast but don't want to watch if storyline is not good
It;s a beautiful story with very interesting characters, very good acting from almost all of the actors(unlike many other dramas), amazing cinematography and beautiful OST(!). I haven't finished it yet, I;ve watched up to episode 24 but it;s worth it - it's magical like a fairytale but with darker and realistic tones that are part of every good historical show. It captivates you, me at least :)
"It's too late, I am already reckless" (I want this put on a T-shirt!!!)
Freaking looooove her!!!!!! <3
