Khaotung looking like a meal in this series. The way they're making him sexy (the shower scene!) and confident. I love it! AyanAkk's chemistry is so good! Their facial expressions are on point. The characterization is great for all the guys: - Tua who's so silent he doesn't even know to express himself "loudly". He says he's neutral, but is it possible to stay neutral when you witness bullying and injustice? I believe he'll raise his voice and express him feelings thanks to Ayan's influence. - Kan's internalised homophobia is a sad thing to see. - Akk's struggle is sad but also funny. Love his interactions with Ayan. I think his conflict is less about being gay and more about Ayan being his "enemy" : because Ayan is supposedly the bad guy, he doesn't want to acknowledge his feelings for him.
This school is a nightmare. Imagine accepting the job of prefect and then spending all your school day playing cop and spying on your classmates? And not even getting paid to do that :-)
I saw the most hypocrites in my life at MDL. When TharnType was shown, most were enthusiastic, but then a wave…
It's not about hypocrisy. I think it's more about nuance and context. Some problematic behaviours can be tolerate within a certain context and the dynamics between the characters. We don't ask for perfect characters, but a character needs to be aware of their flaws in order for them to have character development. The issue is when toxicity is presented as normal and sexy and we're asked not to highlight the problematic stuff. As I always say, you can point out the intolerable stuff and still appreciate the series for what it is.
In TTTS, I didn't like Tharn's action yet I still like the series and the MCs because, for me, the point of the series was to show how two problematic teenagers grow up, acknowledge their mistakes (they were both toxic) and build a healthy relationship. People saying "KP is toxic but you like it" are not taking into account the context: KP is a dark series about mafia guys. Their behaviours aren't romanticized. We know they're guys with questionable morals. The series isn't selling us romantic and normal relationships. In HiStory 4: Close to You, the relationship between the stepbrothers was so controversial because it was not handled correctly. The younger brother's actions were stalkerish and predatory yet he was never called out by his older brother. The older brother even repeatedly excused his brother's actions! And then the whole thing was swept under the rug and they lived happily ever after... Like, what? The cognitive dissonance was too strong here.
The issue with Mame is that the core of her stories rest on the toxicity of the relationships. It is obvious in Love In The Air : the plot is weak and too fast paced because they only care about creating situations where Phayu & Rain would bicker and Phayu would show his dominance over Rain (after knowing each other for 3 days...). Also, nobody hates Mame specifically. Every problematic or bad written BL had been criticized while airing (Cutie Pie, TTTS, KP, Check Out...). It's not like there's a vendetta against Mame.
At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to like or dislike what they want. We shouldn't care about other people opinions in order to appreciate a series.
I see it's clearly a comedy. Unfortunately, it fails to make me laugh and somehow I feel the series takes itself too seriously sometimes. I spent the whole episode shaking my head, wondering whether this mess is deliberate or a miss. Unlike some viewers, I like Noeul's acting (Rain). I mean, he does what he can with a weak plot and playing a stupid and delusional character.
i get how phayu could missinterpret rain's actions/signals, thinking rain was into him. however, he should have…
Exactly. People saying it's not a big deal because Rain was flirting with him since they met and not to be dramatic because he didn't rape him... That's not the point. I've no issue with the kiss in the neck because Phayu was making his move thinking Rain was interested. But he should have stopped when Rain pushed him and asked what he was doing. It was a good indication that Rain wasn't willing. So what happened afterwards was wrong and unecessary. Tbh, I could have excused it if Phayu had apologized but he didn't and he didn't even understand he was wrong.
When two high school students are more mature than most adult characters (yes, I'm talking about those grown-ass men from Cutie Pie, Check Out and co). Q's jealousy was over the top so the convo with his uncle was indeed necessary. It was well done. I like this series and wish it was longer but I could have done without the secondary couples. I like my BL with no straight couples in it, thank you.
Sigh, the flash-forward, one of my least favourite plot devices. Anyway, I've totally given up on caring about…
I feel you. I've been watching BL since 2007 (Takumi-Kun) and I'm having BL fatigue this year. We have more series than ever but their quality is so disappointing. Years go by but I barely see the improvement.
Is it me or they all have the same face? I usually don't say that but I couldn't tell the difference between the actors. However, they're all very handsome!
So because toxic relationships are present in a lot of BLs we can't complain? Let's all close our eyes and ignore…
But is it set out to depict toxicity or is it just the writer who can't differentiate between toxic and healthy? I've no issue when the purpose of the story is to depict toxicity and show characters developpment (TharnType), but when the toxicity is presented as hot and normal (Cutie Pie) and the characters don't even acknowledge their problematic behaviours, then you can't be surprised people complain about it. Nobody like straight series where the ML is toxic to the FL and nobody think it's normal. but when it's about BL you have different standards and argue that it's fiction. That is the real problem in the fandom. Nobody forbid you to like controversial BLs but you shouldn't dismiss viewers who raised valid questions about romanticized toxic relationships.
Except that Rain told him to stop, not one but 3 times! And Phayu didn't stop by himself, Rain had to push him…
"I don't know why people watch BL's and expect morality lessons. The whole point is to manufacture drama by creating a bit of toxicity and sexual tension" -> Really?! And here I thought, after 20 years of reading/watching BL, that it was about romance between 2 guys... Of course writers can do what they want, some choose to depict healthy relationships while others prefer controversial ones. To each their own (and I'm saying this as a fan of TharnType). However, let's not give a false definition of what BL is supposed to be. ..Viewers who prefer toxic BLs can enjoy them, there's no shame but expecting healthy representation of gay relationships is legit too.
Right up my alley. Here's my opinion. Rain is clumsy and ditzy and felt an attraction to Payu instantly. In Payu's…
Except that Rain told him to stop, not one but 3 times! And Phayu didn't stop by himself, Rain had to push him and struck him with a pillow. Also, they don't know each other, so why would Phayu asssume Rain is playing hard to get? This is something you assume when you know the person, and you have established this kind of dynamics. You don't go around thinking a complete stranger is playing hard to get when they tell you to stop and are pushing you away, 3 times! This is a dangerous assumption. So while it's not rape, it's still harassment romanticized, as usual in Mame's works.
I came to check reviews because I didn't know about this series at all until it appeared on my Youtube's feed…
So because toxic relationships are present in a lot of BLs we can't complain? Let's all close our eyes and ignore the issues ? When watching non-bl shows you don't highlight the negative aspects of the storylines? Or only Bls get a free pass? Toxic relationship isn't the hallmark of Bls. Many series have healthy couples (BB, HiStory: CTL, SCOY, TMS1, Sotus 1, Old Fashion Cupcake, SaifahZon from WRU, Right or Wrong...). We don't have to accept problematic behaviours. Also, you can watch and appreciate a series and still comment on its issues.
