Patrick Quan Peilun confirmed that it indeed may be coming! On his Weibo yesterday he says: #刘亦菲下部戏是南烟斋笔录# 小姐、二爷,末生等了很久了! #LiuYifeisnextdramaisNanyanzhaiBilu# Miss, Master, I have been waiting for a long time! https://weibo.com/3558201323/OkiWmxTjr
This is one of those dramas that doesn't take itself seriously, because it really doesn't have the time. While I loved seeing Patrick Quan as a leading man, this drama isn't a strong one. Pros: The episodes are short, and there are only 24 of them. Patrick has different costume changes, so the sets and the costumes are pretty good. The drama itself I'll describe as a bit "campy" and silly, but it was funny at times too. Cons: The acting is just ok for a short drama, the plot was thin and the direction/camera angles were off at times, but all in all, I liked it because I've seen Patrick act in great dramas and I love him as an actor. I was able to binge this in about 3 and a half hours. It's a quick one.
I liked your review and wanted to add to it: Chongqing is Xiao Zhan's birthplace, and I'm sure he had fun coming back to where he started out himself, growing up and watching the city grow as well. He was himself a graphic artist/designer out of college, who helped run a small company in a partnership, so he knows all the in's and out's of this character he's playing, as if it's almost autobiographical in those instances. This drama does actually has a very natural, warm feeling to it, and I feel as if XZ didn't have to do a lot of homework with this drama, but just memorizing the script and getting the camera angles and his marks right. So far, I'm enjoying it as well, and I'm interested to see how it progresses. Age difference when dating in China, as in most of Asia, is a touchy subject, yet here XZ is with his stellar influence as an A list celebrity, is putting this subject right at the forefront for people to watch. Good job!
So far, this drama is only available to Tencent-China, not international audiences. I've requested Viki to see if they can get it, but it's a waiting game to see who will have it with English subs.
Omg, your slight rant of the writing had me laughing out loud. I do agree with you though, the writing could have been MUCH better, and I can't imagine anyone else in Bai Lu's role, but her. If you've seen them in Love is Sweet, you know that chemistry already...If you haven't seen it, please do watch them, because it's why folks wanted to see them again in another drama to begin with! Both didn't disappoint, that's for sure!
Whoo, let me tell you what....I didn't watch LYX in "Ashes of Love" as, I knew I'd fall hard for him and his fairy-like visuals, fan waving prowess, and ballet dancing self. I immediately watched him in a modern drama (Love is Sweet, with Bai Lu, btw) to see if he was a fluke or not. I am now a huge fan of him and as I say on a page I admin on FB, he is my Xianxia King. The man has a way about him that is exquisite, yet bold and fierce at times. He does his own stunts and always does his own voicework. Always. For someone that started his journey in life as a ballet dancer to teacher in a music school in Macao, he's is AMAZING as an actor. I was addicted to this one from the very beginning, and the pain in so many scenes he went through tore my heart out, but he's like that with most drama's he's in. He may not always have the chemistry with some FL's, but he's the one I watch anyway! Glad you enjoyed him! P.S.-He also plays piano and can sing as well!
@KelePhillips Harris, I hate to tell you this, but China still lives in a bubble. Unless you use a VPN in China…
Oh and so you are in the USA....wow. And you sound quite young also. Someone who hasn't lived long enough to understand themselves, let alone someone else. I get it now. This ends my conversation with you. Byeeeee.

Lying is awful. I agree. See, we agree on the same thing. I'm older, so I can't say that I've never lied, but I try to be honest in all things. Others lying to you, you learn to live with and be on guard for. Don't expect honesty always. It doesn't happen. You can say you've never lied, but don't expect anyone to believe you, as everyone does it.
