Yes this one too, and queer productions have been actually common there since about 2004 when Hedwig was brought to SK.

i have a question... sadly it is easy to understand why it is such a big deal in s.korea to portray a gay character...…
in SK It's a big deal when a mainstream actor to play a gay character on screen in a drama only. But as for other media like theater and movies it is actually not. Many mainstream kactors played gay/queer characters in musicals and stage plays, there are a lot of queer productions in SK too. But theater is a niche media so that's why mainstream actors feel safe to play in a stage production. Stage actors are totally different and they don't have any bias against playing queers - but in SK unlike Japan stage actors (esp not very well known) are usually not casted in bl dramas (with some exeptions like Cha Seowon or Jung Hwi).

Although the idea of the article is great, I don't think that "actors and actresses who didn’t previously pursue career in singing can sing as well" isn't quite fit for musical actors because their career/profession and everything is about acting + singing. Yes, I understand that the author wanted to differentiate them from singers/idols who also act, but the wording to my mind was a bit misleading. Especially if you put actors who can sing but active in dramas and movies together with actors who act and sing on stage in musicals. While the former can sing, they don't sing as much as those who perform in musicals.

I LOVED this. The two leads are outstanding. Such strong actors. So likable and charismatic and natural, both…
a super late comment but you won't probably see Jung Hwi in more project because he's a musical actor but many of his musical/theater roles are queer.

Thanks for compiling these statistics on jdramas. Interesting though that among the most popular and highest rated dramas I can name only Unnatural as one of my "top" dramas. I've watched the rest and even like some of them (like Hanzawa Naoki or Kasoku Game), but none impressed me that much as to name them the best. That's purely my opinion.
Speaking about the year, most of my fave jdramas are pre-2015 though.

Hi, don't get me wrong but I don't agree with this statement of yours:"I don't care much about romance and romcoms,…
Most of Jdrama fans that I've known online and in real life for more than 10 years prefer Japanese romance and slice of life to Korean and Chinese romance. Especially old-school romance like Beautiful Life or Pride or any other old Kimura Takuya's dramas. People chose Jdramas because for them Jdramas bring comfort with their simple story-lines and warm fuzzy feelings. Yes, there are quite a number of "weird"/non-mainstream Jdramas but most of the Jdrama viewers tend to overlook them due to lack of subs or just because they are weird. The same with slice of life/medical/legal/mystery Japanese dramas - most of them are "comfortable" and simple even without romance, they depict lives of ordinary people with ordinary relatable problems.

I've spent more than 13 years watching Japanese dramas to the point that I've seen most of those that I was interested in story-wise or actor-wise. Even most obscure titles that have no English subs. I do like old school Jdramas from 90s and 00s, even 10s but don't care much about recent ones, maybe because I'm bored or maybe because like the article mentioned, Japanese dramas stay the same. They hardly ever change, they're even produced and visualized almost the same like 10-15 years ago. I hate that. I don't care much about romance and romcoms, about school or young adults love stories, yet it seems like most viewers are drawn to Jdramas precisely because of that.
I love mystery dramas, I love to read Japanese mystery novels but I don't care much about their TV adaptations. But I do enjoy Japanese thriller/suspense/mystery movies that are well-done and well-acted.
As for Korean dramas, I prefer modern to old-school. Just because I hate romance, and old school Kdramas were all about that, about love stories, I don't care about that. I like my dramas plot-heavy, with fast action, violence, revenge, good guys beat up villians, slick eyecandy and like cherry on top, I love watching Korean dramas and movies about serial killers and psychopaths. So I'm more than content with the way Kdramas are now. Though I do not like it when drama gets more seasons, 2 are more than enough.
All that being said, that is my personal preference.

Add my two cents because I feel the need to point out. No matter how great Reunion production was, no matter how mature actors were - it still lacked in terms of script. There were too many dragging moments - especially in Warehouse 11. Female characters were mostly annoying, they add unnecessary romantic fanservice for casual viewers who do not watch dramas without heterosexual love line. So, Reunion was clearly made for viewers who are not familiar with the books.
Whereas Ultimate Note instantly became the fan favourite because they closely follow the books, where are no unnecessary characters or scenese. The pacing is great. Yeah, the production isn't as grand as in Reunion and CG sometimes hurts the eyes but on the whole I enjoy UN much better than Reunion despite my love for Reunion cast. And young actors in UN are doing a great job, especially Joseph and Rainco, they are really close to the book versions.
