I am well aware of the impact the incident had on him and I was not downplaying it at all. My whole point was to address the fact that that incident did not impact his popularity negatively, quite the opposite. I did not want to talk about cyber bullying because it might trigger some of the fans as it does not include happy memories and I would rather focus on the silver lining.

There is no proof that he lost deals. It's more than possible that he himself cut off contracts with those companies because he did not want them to deal with the antis. If you have seen recent data during the 11/11 sales, all the brands that xz endorsed came out on the top in terms of sales. I am 1000% certain that it's xz who is not accepting endorsements and not the other way around. There is no denying that the "scandal" did impact him negatively but in the end, it's xz who came out as the winner. As for weibo, XZ's weibo likes average on 8million and his most liked post is around 16 million likes which is exponentially more than any of other active celebs on the platform. So, really, the follower count does not matter at all, it's the engagement that does.

Also agreed that even after disappearing from the public eye for so long, xz managed to create such a huge impact in an industry where you would expect stars to fade away if they hide themselves for too long.
The entire incident was not even worth paying attention to but oh well. In the end, it only led to him being ever more popular, and not just among his fanbase but also among the General Population, which is a feat not many idols (including yibo) have managed to achieve.

Yeah, exactly. Nobody has forgotten xz just because he chose to remain lowkey. His career has not gone "downhill". It's just that both of them have chosen different ways to go about their careers and that's perfectly alright.

Just because he's been obscure this year does not mean he's any less popular. The anticipation of seeing xiao zhan is just too much. His single appearance on CCTV program shot the ratings through the roof xP
Even on the list of most anticipated dramas, all 3 of of xz awaited dramas are always on the top. so, yeah, I don't believe one is more popular than the other. As for their success well, I do hope both of their dramas turn out to be smash hits.

@LetsGoo I beg to differ. XZ may have not been in the public eye for the majority of the year but make no mistake, his popularity is still unmatched. One appearance of him on screen and the entirety of china goes crazy. All of the products he endorses get sold out within SECONDS. I love both of them and wish them success but let's not compare them in this way.
