Hmm I am not sure what to think about this whole thing but if there is one thing that I am certain of is that the production team definitely loved wangxian as much as the rest of us because it can CLEARLY be seen via bts and how well the relationship between the two translated on our screens.
I have read so many posts from certain people who openly criticise meng ziyi like ??? and hate on wen qing's character !! just because a baseless rumor surfaced about her story with wwx :/ I personally am a huge fan of wen qing and anyone who slanders her character earns a block from me lmao

I think international fans were not aware of the fact that it's 1) straightwashed and 2) plagiarized so they went ahead and watched it thinking it was your usual drama and fell in love with the story but yeah that definitely does not excuse them defending the show. I remember I wanted to watch this drama when it was airing but then found out about the whole gay turned straight romance & plagiarism mess and noped out of it so quick lol
It's great that the actual work is getting an adaptation soon because then it will be clear for the world to see!

If I may add to this, there is a few fan accounts on twitter that do excellent thread fics and AUs. I don't know if you know this account ran by someone called Buss but their fics are absolutely glorious, albeit nsfw but I am okay with that. The amount of content cql fandom generates regularly is just...wow. I have never seen a drama fandom so dedicated xP

100% agreed! There is something so icky about taking an LGBT story and turning it into straight romance.
Reminds me of that popular drama called Eternal Love. If I remember correctly, the author copied a BL novel and turned it into a straight romance which got turned into an uber successful drama. That's just gross in my opinion.

Oh my god yes, cql would not have been half as impactful without wangxian. I cannot even imagine two characters better suited for each other :(
Their relationship is so iconic and it's like the benchmark for romance now lol and they didn't even need to do physical displays of affection like hug, kiss etc to make us believe in their love <3

Dear lord, my suspicions were right. I think the team wanted to film some scenes featuring the two so as to have a cushion in case the intended scenes do not pass the censors? Because I genuinely believe the production team was a hardcore wangxian shipper and to change that story in favour of wen qing x wwx would have been such a slap in the face >.<

It really should not be such a big deal releasing behind the scenes of an extremely popular show but it's sad how everyone has to be so hush hush about it when it comes to bts featuring those 2.

Yeah, that's the post I was talking about! I don't understand one thing though, if mxtx was involved in the production then why was there a narrative of wen qing and wwx love story? That contradicts all efforts of the production team to push wangxian through subtext >.<

About the fansites, I am honestly not very informed on how they work or why they were allowed on the filming site in the first place. Apart from that, I have heard that some uhh yibo only fans and xz only fans were cutting the other person off from bts videos so the other fansites decided to upload the whole thing. Take this with a grain of salt because it's most likely just a rumor and we might never know what triggered this onslaught of new bts xP

Yeah it's annoying when everything one person does has to be twisted in some way that it gets tied to another. I do really, really, REALLY enjoy and LOVE seeing those two together but everyone should learn to respect them as individuals who have their own lives and careers

Yep! I read that too. And they have been playing songs that are very uhh wyb & xz specific, if you know what I mean. So idk it's all just very iffy. Especially when you know they are profiting off of it.
