This is another reason I'm so mad. I actually liked DS so much in the beginning! His character had so much potential to shine his own light but the writing, while trying to make a complex character, gave him a complexity that doesn't go with his supposedly pure heart at all. He gained a totally unnecessary darkness. The aim was to make the audience sympathise with the cheating in the exam paper analogy for him lying to DM. The analogy failed because DS actually did all the 9 questions on his own but in love he was already given the gold medal for some other student's exam and had to start learning the exam topic after winning for a paper he didn't do. No wonder he never felt like belonging anywhere. With a more intelligent script things could have been different but here I am, analysing this nonsense when I have my own MSc exam in 3 weeks lool

In any case, if you have been here during the running of the drama you would notice very few here wanted JP with DM. It was more like...can they already leave JP alone ? This lie was litterally impersonating someone else, as if I get lost in the dark of a fireworks festival and hold some guy's hand thinking he is my husband but this guy doesn't let me go for the whole festival and takes me home. Who's worse ? The one who couldn't recognise her own husband's hand or the impostor?

In the drama she was there quoting his letters in front of him and looking for even a shadow of his past self in him but there he was "i hated my past self"...yeah no wonder, you kinda also hate the present self of that "past self" which is some other guy and not even you. Some other guy you should be nothing but greatful towards.
The amount of nonsense this drama has couldn't be exhausted even in all the impressively intelligent analysis during the running of the drama so each post feels like a rabbit hole to me in which I keep digging and keep finding yet another fault with the drama

I do think there are many but tbh for how deceptive their love story was, the audience would have rather rejoiced a childhood cliche more, as they put it, rather than seeing the love story between a girl and a guy the girl thinks he is but he is not

You said all these points so politely and yes I totally agree. Many people underestimate the fact that the dislike for this drama was also because of the familial aspect which is incredibly badly writtten. I can't even remeber what was the last time I saw such nonsensical family ties in a Korean drama

I just watched the Chinese dramas Forever Love and Le Coup De Foudre which had more about programming and stratup than Start-Up could ever be. Ah and also, I think the writer should have taken some notes from dramas like those to see how different types of geniuses behave and how friendhship and actual bromance looks like. Forever Love had the consistently intelligent female lead Start-up failed to portray. I still find hilarious how ridiculously high our expectations for this drama were. I still fault the director for his mesmerising direction but I also fault KSH and grandma, for their mind-blowing acting and the plant and the Ai-speaker for stealing the show

You should watch it till the episode of the reveal and figure out who your heart is crying for more. If it's KSH, you might want to stop ot there to save your sanity and well being

I think you watch them as they are, like from 1997, 1994 and 1988 because they do have funny cronological references of each if you watch them in this other but nothing relevant to the story. Another reason is that 1997 was well loved, 1994 (..hmm idk what to say about that really but you have to watch it before 1988 because there is a very important spoiler about the husband reveal) and then 1988 which was a masterpiece so as the commenter before was saying, it's better to leave the gem to be watched at last
