Here is my take on Put and Phat getting back together: We finally have an idea of what had happened and Put made it clear why he went awol without a proper breakup. Unlike Phat who was always aware of his sexuality, it wasn’t the same for Put who was confused and probably even scared. He should have talked with Phat about his confusion and doubts but he took the cowardice route and left behind a heartbroken and confused Phat.
Fast forward 2 years later, Pat and Put meet again uncoincidentally and we see Put relentlessly pursuing Phat, so it felt reasonable to give him another chance. Too Phat, navigating the relationship with Put is probably an easier and more familiar route rather than being with someone new. They have a long past, and Put apologized, so Phat wanting to begin a new chapter in their story is understandable.
And no matter how heartbroken he is about Put disappearing in the past, Phat never got closure in his relationship with Put. And especially in a relationship where there was no toxicity or lies or cheating or abuse rather the relationship just suddenly came to a very abrupt halt. We saw how Phat is still afraid to date new people because of his past experience in episode 1. It shows Phat still has lingering feelings and indicates he never got the closure to move on. But here is the thing time can do funny things to memories and emotions, we often romanticize past relationships and dwell on all our what-ifs. Put's sincere apologies, him relaying nostalgia for what they had in the past, bringing up Phat knowing his drink order, the shark plushie, etc all feed into the idea that they can again become how they were in the past: being happy and loving each other.
But here is the catch it's just too little too late! 2 years is a lot of time and people change. They are now in a new stage of their life: meeting new people, newer wants and needs and likings and attractions. Once that nostalgia will wear off, especially for Phat, they will realize that nostalgia and hanging onto the past emotions and ideas of what they once had been together can only help them very little to navigate their newly rekindled relationship in the present time. Because now, Phat has already begun a new chapter with Jeng. One that does not include baggage, albeit it does have its own set of problems.
Like the shark plushie which was incomplete when Put left, just like their relationship and feelings were left in limbo, and now that the shark is completed it can be a metaphor for their relationship will also finally see its completion and come to a proper end for good this time. With both getting the closure they need to move on.
thank you for this! i was trying to make sense the situation make sense in my head. was the novel any good? is…
The novel is apparently 60% office work-related, the romance takes center place towards the end. This is not like one of those typical BL. But Phat and Jeng is the endgame. They date for about 8 years before tying the knot. and there are lots of NC scenes when they get together lol
I really hope they just date for 1 or 2 episode and close the chapter because there is another plotline with Jeng and Phat they will most probably cover though that issue can easily be solved in the same episode. I am hoping by the end of ep 9 our main will get together if not then even I will start complaining too LOL
Put made it clear why he went awol though. Unlike Phat who was always aware of his sexuality it wasn’t same…
No, when it comes to one's sexual uncertainty, the situation is quite different. Put seemed to be more sure in his purse for Phat now, so it felt reasonable to give him another chance. They appear to have a long past, and Put apologized, so Phat wanting to begin a new chapter in their story is understandable. But you are correct, it is too late for Put. While Put may have stronger feelings for Phat now that he has gained confidence in his sexuality, Pat has already begun a new chapter with Jeng. One that does not include baggage, albeit it does have its own set of problems lol. I think Phat, he will just date him because he never had the closure with his relationship with Put and will realize he doesn't feel the same affection he probably feels for certain someone.
But my issue is how the writer handled their plot. It feels messy and out of place. They had perfect opportunity to give us a hint of the stage they were setting up. Put and Phat could have had a more meaningful conversation on episode 5 which would have helped us viewer feel them getting back together in this episode is not out of place .
He's the only BL character whose emotions are very hard to read. There's something wrong with the script.
I love this series and am very much enjoying the slow burn but even I have to say the series did Put and Phat storyline dirty and is lazy writing. They had the perfect opportunity for Phat and Put to talk about the reason they both broke up in ep 5 and in episode 6 we could have seen Phat contemplating whether to give Put a chance or not and then the ending scene of ep 6 would have made more sense and not out of place. It would have caused their plotline to flow more smoothly.
Don't know if Pat gave Put another chance, but in my dictionary, there is no chance for people who go for AWOL.…
Put made it clear why he went awol though. Unlike Phat who was always aware of his sexuality it wasn’t same for Put who was confused and probably even scared. Currently he seems to have come term with his sexuality so giving him a second chance is not a big no no. I understand why Phat gave him a second chance. He knows Put, having relationship with him will be easier and less work . And dont we all once in our life get back with our ex’s only to realise “Yup I deserve better than this piece of shit” lol I think for Phat it will be similar situation. He will realise with whom his true feelings lies with.
They are following according to the novel. Put and Phat do date for few months and when Jeng gets to know that he takes a step back and stops pursuing Phat to save himself for further heart back but soon Phat decides to end his relationship with Put because it was turning sour. And when jeng finds out about the breakup he again starts to pursue Phat. Also in the novel Put wasn’t an ex but a friend of Phat’s friend or sth along those lines so showed changed that. In the novel for a long time Phat had zero interest in Jeng because to him Jeng was a strict boss and he was afraid of him like we all are of our boss’s 😅 I am not putting the spoiler up intentionally seeing so many people having issues with series pacing so I hope this helps somehow
Its D-Day finally!! From the posters it seems we will get to meet a new character from Pat and Put’s past. But more importantly Pat and Mr Jeng’s ikea date !!!!!! I am so excited 😆
