It was scary in the best way. The very end was even too happy ending for the story but I liked it even that way because the characters were so so well written that it was impossible not to love them

How is this so good? It has been since The Guest and The Devil Judge that i haven't seen a drama so compelling and well written

As for drama if you have not watched it yet you should give a try to The Guest https://kisskh.at/28686-hand, it's not historical and there is no outright romance but there's a lot of found family feeling and the mystery is even better than in bulgasal. Also it's from the same writers so you can imagine which kind of character and perspective they work. As for something similar the one that comes to my mind the most even if it's more the amosphere and minor details is Arthdal Chronicles https://kisskh.at/28116-aseudal. Not particularly similar but with some elements in common you can check our The Devil Judge https://kisskh.at/62087-the-demon-judge which is very very good and appealing. Or there is Tientsin Mystic https://kisskh.at/23674-tientsin-mystic which has something in the atmosphere and the story that could remind of bulgasal. Graphically speaking there's Painted Skin which is a short movie and is very appealing https://kisskh.at/680897-painted-skin. If you are looking more for romance the with a supernatural twist there are both Goblin https://kisskh.at/18452-goblin and Korean Odissey https://kisskh.at/24049-hwayuki. And it doesn't have anything in common with bulgasal or very marginally so but as it's probably my favorite drama ever (depsite some graphic flaws and the evident low budget) if you have not watched it i would suggest The Untamed https://kisskh.at/28723-the-untamed (first 5 episodes are honestly quite bad but the story afterwards more than make up for it).

Ok as you talked to me of Dracula and Twilight before any drama if you have not read them I would dearly suggest Anne Rice books about Lestat. They are amazing and some of the most intriguing, sensual yet philosophical stories ever. Lestat is one of the most alluring character ever created, his love, passion and vitality comes out of every page. Interview with the vampire is the first book, and for many the most difficult to digest as it's from another character's perspective but if you read it and do not let the tone discourage you it's going to be an incredible ride.

The pace of the story is not perfectly balanced because as in most mystery drama the 'reveal' must come at the very end which often makes for a rushed feeling. K-drama often magnify this even when the plot is not a mystery, so all in all i feel like Bulgasl is quite well done anyway.

I agree there could have been lot of potential for more stories and also they could have put together more details on the origin and the past of Bulgasals or detail why the only real human becoming a Bulgasal had that dark hole in his chest and was in misery all the time. It’s pretty obvious why Eul Tae could not destroy Min Sung Un soul considering it was his own, but it would be interesting to see more on that. Pity that 16 episode is the standard for k-dramas.. And at least this unusual vampire story has its logic that it’s very intriguing.

I also felt sorry for Eul Tae. He had a long life but not a happy one and it was only partially his fault. If Hwal and Min Sang Un had gotten back to origin becaoming bulgasal again Eul Tae could have had a life too with his soul that has been used by Hwasl and Min Sang Un for so long

Does anyone know the title of the song that was played in ep 16 almost at the end when Do Yoon and Shi Ho talks? I couldn't find it in the 4 songs officially released for bulgasal

I thought they would go down that route too, and I would have liked it even if the ending they've penned is very good too.
