Usually, white hair means the character lost most of his cultivation. When DFQC was sealed in prison (and he had white hair) his primordial spirit was split and actually, XLH mended it back together so he woke up. But in manhua and anime, his hair is always white. I think the styling team decided it is not fit very well for all drama so they did it like this.
