They broke up bcs JXN knew that his mother death crushed him in 1st life, now in 2nd one he have much more blame on him. He should arrange someone to look after his mother. So JXN was afraid he really gave up on himself so she took the blame for his mother death. Yes, YL raped her. So she was so desperate so he tried to seduce XW but he was on his very hard drugs so he didn't even remember in the morning that she went to him. He went to her in the morning after servant said to him, that Empress visited him at night but he overheard how she said to her servant that she need to go to someone (Yang Lin (?)) to save herself got pissed and left. Also he gave her dagger in 1st life so she can protect herself from YL, not for suiside. It really was misunderstanding.
Lastly, don't mix novel with live adaptation because live adaptation is not aligned exactly to the novel.
