I strongly believe in a happy ending. He survived because of a moral code in the art of war - he killed the enemies' general. The enemy has probably kept his as a hostage, so that the Dai Country's injured soldiers could be spared. Not for nothing they mentioned that XH was reading the art of war books.

I cannot express how wonderful The Double is. It has everything and even more. All the characters have an intricate story even the baddies that you will come to hate. Our OTP dynamics is out of this world. No cliches ~ The ending is just... ah what more could an avid c-dramas fan wish for ;) This is in my TOP 3. I hope Li Meng (Wanning) gets more lead roles in ancient drams and that there will be more cool grandpas too!!!
