It is quite daring for a c-drama to give this scene a go. I was wondering if they would keep this scene frome the novel and they did it well. I'm glad they didn't turn it into a comedy. ML just giving him dignity by offering assistance and understanding in silence was gold. MR just being open about his humiliation and pain was another surprise as male lead usually bottle it in. 😭

I want them to either have a happy ending where they run away from the palace (The General becomes the empress then?) and they run a cake shop together. Or at least give us two endings - a HE and SE - like the novel did. 😭 I want all the loose ends tied. Don't give us the crap that Love of Nirvana did.
Look at us, torn between our expectations of Jing He being the typical dark character teased in the trailers, and the reality of him having a surprisingly cosy relationship with Mei Li. 😂 They are still using each other, sure, but they are both far from a black, red or... even a grey(?) flag for now. I have to be honest, I was really looking forward to a darker archetype, though still a bit more toned down compared to the novel. But I’ve found myself appreciating the deeper complexity and emotional layers that actually make him more relatable. It's a gust of fresh air I felt when watching The Legend of Shen Li.
