Yes! I've been saying let SDM fight her own battles for a while. NDS stepping in all the time is stunting her…
It's just because right now they are discussing very realistic themes, that I can relate to.
The way the characters are responding to the situations at hand, I just can't relate to, because not in a million years would I agree with half of what SDM, NDS or HJP are doing.
Ok, I don't want to give you Miji's hope, BUT, here is a little theory.
A pervasive stance from SDM has always been, she never regrets the choices she made. One such choice she has made was choosing HJP over Alex from 2STO as mentor for SST.
We know that NDS is going to 2STO so that SST will get wings, and we know HJP has offered to personally invest in SST.
I think before NDS leaves for SF, he will transfer his shares to SDM. Why? because he has always told SDM, his shares is hers. Plus it's a great romantic gesture, and kind of makes SDM indebted to NDS.
During the 3 years time skip, NDS will be coming back, and he will have more or less the same status as Alex. A Korean who worked for the 7th most valuable company in the world, while HJP will still just be HJP, we see in the 4 year time skip he is still working at SH Ventures.
Which makes me think, when it comes time to choose again between having NDS or HJP in the company, SDM will choose HJP again.
I personally think a 3rd person should not interfere when 2 sisters are fighting... It's not like dalmi don't…
Yes! I've been saying let SDM fight her own battles for a while. NDS stepping in all the time is stunting her growth. How is she ever going to learn when people keep fighting her battles for her?
She will end up as sheltered as NDS if this keeps up. And as a CEO she's always going to need her CTO in every meeting. I mean i'm sure even Bill Gates can attend meetings without his CTO there...
SDM wants to be the Steve Jobs of Korea, NDS wants her to be the Steve Wozniak instead. (Does this analogy work?)
This is on the writers shoulder. They enticed people to watch Start Up with big name leads, an interesting premise,…
You can write a drama that has mainstream appeal without making it a filler drama or fan servicey drama. That is the writers dilemma.
If you just write drama's based on a whim, and don't care about things like positive feedback, viewer ratings and etc... you are not going to have many writing jobs. In the end Kdrama is a business and plots that have more mainstream appeal sell better.
Re Kimsamsoom's previous post about the way DM looks at DS, I just want to add my two cents:I’ll refrain myself…
Interesting take. I love it and agree 100%!
One could also argue, once NDS self esteem, and insecurities are fixed, he may not see dalmi the same way. As he feels he has improved his status and can get better girls.
And before anyone argue about this being unrealistic, I've literally seen this at least twice in my lifetime. Guys who either lose weight, or become more confident, then suddenly, their current GF is not good enough, ends up having an affair and leaving the old GF for a new GF worthy of his status. It's disgusting.
I really wished the story were more realistic on portraying the business world rather than this romantic comedy…
I think it portrays the romantic aspect of start-ups well.
It does a good job in showing how co-founders of starts up falls in love with each other, and how colleagues fall in love with each other.
It also shows us the dark side of when mentors may sometimes fall in love with their mentee, and investors invest in start ups not because of money, but because of love.
You see the problem of NDS lying nature here can be traced back to the family structure of NDS. Let me explain this.
To understand why NDS is such a big liar, we need to first understand how he grew up.
NDS grew up in a family where the dad is very strict, and always pushes his son to reach his maximum potential. As a child, it is very easy to misunderstand our parents. At such a young age, NDS lacked the emotional maturity to understand why his dad is always pushing him. Instead he misconstrued this strictness as a father who is never satisfied with his son's accomplishment. A view that NDS himself confirmed when he tells his dad this. It is a little hard to blame the dad here, because the way he is treating NDS, is very likely how NDS grandfather treated the dad as well.
I highly doubt the cheating scandal during the math Olympiad was NDS first lie, kids will often form their core personality at around the ages of 5-6 years old. But for arguments sake, let us say it was the first time. Once NDS started lying, it became easier to keep on doing it, and the reward he got from lying, his parents praising him, and being proud of him, was amazing for young NDS, and so he keeps on doing it.
But as time passes by, the pressure his dad heaps on him burns him out. College at such a young age is very difficult if the child has a stunted emotional maturity. And so rather that tell his parents the truth, he lies instead, as lying has served him well in the past, and has become quite comfortable, second nature to him. When asked a question he is uncomfortable with, his first instinct is to lie.
Now here is where the problems come. Let's face it, when we lie to our parents, we never really get punished for it. No matter how big our lies, our parents always end up forgiving us anyway. And there lies the problem, because NDS lead such a sheltered life, and he had no real concept of how lies would affect outsiders, people who are not his parents, he never really understands how painful and hurtful lying can be to other people.
He basically lies his way to make his parents believe he will be successful. He lies so much that the parents believed they were doing a good job raising their son. And as NDS himself said to SDM, once he started going it, it felt so good, and it felt so hard to stop. This applies to his family life as well, the layers of lies he has told to his parents may have provided a temporary shield from his father's wrath, but in the long term damages the way NDS perceives certain things in life, including lying.
This all comes to a head when his dad decides to invest in SST. This was a major mistake. At this point, the dad didn't know how mentally weak and scarred his son is, so he goes in as an unwilling investor that didn't do due diligence because NDS is his son.
The right thing here would be to maybe invest a little bit only in the company, and challenging the son to find outside investor for his company. This would give the son a sense of responsibility.
But because the son has been lying, and kept on lying to his parents, his dad was caught off guard, when the SST was not producing results after three years. And because his son kept lying/hiding, the dad never has the chance to guide his son. Arguable the father should have tried more to understand his son, but in Asian families this does not happen a lot. Parents tend to take their children's word at face value, and does not bother much to read between the lines, or truly fully understand their children.
I was just thinking, when we look at SDM and how she looks at NDS, I never really feel love. Sure they are suppose to be in love and everything, the greatest love even, but it just kind of seems more like a good friends relationship. And never a made for each other, destined type of love. I just don't get the feeling. Even how NDS looks at SDM is more of possessive nature.
The interaction between SDM and NDS, especially in the first half of the show, seems ironically platonic. In fact, if they never kissed, I would think SDM does not really like NDS at all. It's the way she looks at him, and talks to him, it's very casual, more like old friends, than present romantic interest.
I mean as lousy as the chemistry was in The King Eternal, at leat Kim Go Eun looked more in Love in Lee Min Ho's character than Suzy does to NJH's.
I don't know if this is acting, chemistry, or it's actually intended by the writers as a subtle reference to the fact that SDM never truly loved NDS?
And that scene where NDS tells SDM to forget him, instead of looking touched, or heart fluttering with NDS, she looked, for lack of a better word, tired.
Her half-hearted "Fighting" seemed a bit forced, and all of NDS supportive words seemed to fall on deaf ears.
Everything that happened so far are all deliberate on the writer's/director's part. From grandma having DalMi…
Hopefully there is some truth to this.
Oftentimes I find that the audience tends to see things that the writers/director never intended, and in the end all these perceived symbolism, intentional scenes end up being for naught.
So turns out it's actually JP whose arc development is less than even Dal mi. Sorry girl I ever thought you didn't…
The remaining 6 episodes will focus on HJP being the final boss standing in between NDS and SDM.
I'd be interested in seeing how the writers will make HJP an even bigger villain than he is now. This is going to be a true test of KSH acting prowess.
I predict the following things:
1. HJP will be running over a dog. This is to remind SDM that her dad got hit by a car, and make her more cold towards him.
2. They will show via flashback HJP mocking and yelling at Yong San brother.
3. While NDS is away in silicon valley, they will show HJP stalking, and forcing SDM to choose between him or NDS.
4. They will show HJP blaming grandma for not helping, but rather stopping him pursuing SDM. He gives back the shoes she gives her, effectively ending their relationship.
5. Due to his pettiness with NDS, they will show HJP being difficult with the rest of the SST boys.
Although HJP and SDM never dated, he would technically be the ex, and HJP seeing NDS and SDM happy all the time, will be difficult.
I mean, he could still be a mentor, because HJP is quite professional, but I'm sure he won't be happy.
The way the characters are responding to the situations at hand, I just can't relate to, because not in a million years would I agree with half of what SDM, NDS or HJP are doing.
A pervasive stance from SDM has always been, she never regrets the choices she made. One such choice she has made was choosing HJP over Alex from 2STO as mentor for SST.

I'm curious what kind of an ending HJP will get. I can't imagine any good endings for him to be honest.
I mean, not to be mean to grandma, but HJP spending the rest of his life, alone, and taking care of Grandma is a little bit sad.
But introducing a new love line at this point, would feel so incredibly forced.
I can stand the heartbreak of not getting SDM, but to not get ANY happy ending? that's going to be tough to swallow.
And you can't compare LMH/TKEM fans to the one here, they were so incredibly toxic, and huge homers.
Who are the people here responding harshly? I haven't seen much toxicity for a while.
Not counting the fantasy based ones of course.
How is SDM not more angry, we full on deep kiss a guy who faked to be her penpal. Who cares how handsome he is, or if you ended up falling for him.
So if you get kidnap, and fall in love with your kidnapper, it forgives the fact he kidnapped you? I guess this is the moral of the show.
Imagine if you replace kiss with sleeping together instead. Ugh, so frustrating this Dalmi is, doesn't know to use her head. She needs to mature ASAP.
If you just write drama's based on a whim, and don't care about things like positive feedback, viewer ratings and etc... you are not going to have many writing jobs. In the end Kdrama is a business and plots that have more mainstream appeal sell better.
The drama that miss the mark tend to do poorly.
