I think it was unnecessary to have a love triangle. Should have just focused on just NDS and SDM.

Then make HJP and NDS real life brothers. With HJP liking WIJ.

I just started watching descendants of the sun, and I think it's smart of them to make two love lines, instead of a triangle.

All that is left is how to write HJP's arc. And his arc in itself is rickety tightrope. Too sad, and the backlash will be immense, too happy, and the Main Couple get's sidelined by the SL.

The arc of SDM and NDS is pretty much done. We both know where their arc is headed, the steps are clear. Success, love, and etc...

WIJ, even more clearer, her story is also done, not much development left except the completion of her redemption arc, and her eventual respect for her sister.

Where does HJP fit in all of this? Halmoni seems to be his only predictable end game. Because as i've mentioned before, I can't foresee HJP being happy with be glued with NDS and SDM as one big happy family. That's why it was important for him to tell SDM, I don't like NDS, so don't expect us to be buddies.

And it would be weird if Halmoni asked HJP to be buddies with HJP and he just agrees, and they start their bromance. With 6 episodes left, it's too late to develop that dynamic.

Let's look at the facts.

From the conversation between JP and HJP, we know that HJP has never had a girlfriend. Which is weird don't you think?

HJP is rich, handsome, well connected, young, at the top of his game, yet no girlfriends? There is a mystery here that we do not know.

Compared to NDS, middle-class, not the best dresser, awkward with girls (as we saw in the flashbacks), not successful, and no real job, it's no surprise he is still single.

NDS has his whole life ahead of him, he hasn't experienced the "good life" yet. His upward trajectory is still beginning, who is to say success won't change him? who is to say he will have the same taste?

Now look at HJP, he is already at the top of his game, he already has experienced the good life, yet there is still something missing in his life, the thing he craves the most... family. Something NDS has in spades (extended family).

When he saw Halmoni after 15 years, he realizes the thing missing in his life.

BTW, you've been busy? haven't seen you around here for a few days or week now.

It's impossible to satisfy all fans. But writers should at the very least satisfy MOST fans.

I mean look at GOT season 8? It satisfied almost nobody.

I don't think it is a butchery. All the good and bad sides he has now, they were there already in his childhood.…
When he told that to Dalmi, I think he is just clarifying that was a lie as well.

He told NDS that they are not brothers anymore, because he wanted to clear the air and make sure there are no more misunderstandings with NDS.

Why would he talk to NDS before confessing? They are not friends...

What does he owe NDS, who has been nothing but disrespectful and spiteful to him?

No, I agree that HJP has become immature, but I blame that more towards the writer, because they started butchering HJP's character. Making him more of a villain, and petty. It started Ep. 8 I think.

I see HJP being fair more often than ruthless.

The scrunchy moment was shameful for HJP and showed how much of a weasel he can be but that's nothing compared…
It's called reading between the lines. If that is not what you meant, then ok.

They both are disrespecting each other actually. Don't pretend it's one sided.

HJP greedy as a teen, NDS greedy as an adult.

I think rather than ruthless, HJP is fair at his job. Of course, if you are not one of the business proposals chosen, you would think he is ruthless, but then your views would be heavily biased.

No, it's a live airing, the writers, PD, directors can adjust, and change the flow, even the story if they wanted.

And historically, other shows have changed scripts due to negative feedback.

One show that comes to mind is The Producers. Complaining about the shows formatting, made them change their mockumentary style to a standard Kdrama one.

That's the thing, the ML and SL are not suppose to be balanced, It should be clear who the ML is. The SL is not suppose to have a more complex characterization. The ML is suppose to be more relatable.

As fans, its our right to criticize the cast, story and writer. Why shouldn't we? Should we just accept whatever we're shown, nod our heads like yes men?

We are fans, and fans are passionate.

Sure some posters may argue, but for me, and other MIJI fans we've accepted HJP is SL.

But that doesn't mean the SL can't get the girl in the end. It has happened before, why not now.

Dalmi, Do San, and In Jae, actually have their arcs confirmed. Their path is already set in stone. They are about 85-90% of the way already.

Yeah it's been discussed endlessly how NJH and Suzy are ML, no one is arguing that.

we are in this together. Our ship runs on blind faith.

As i've said before, NDS does not need SDM to be happy. He only thinks he does, because SDM is his first love, and he's never been with any other girl.

But once NDS has money, fame, girls hitting on him all the time, do you think he will still feel this way about SDM? I doubt it.

Right now, NDS and SDM are in the same boat, both not yet successful, both not yet rich, not famous. But once NDS surpasses NDS, do you think he will still love SDM?

Money changes people. Success changes people. In comparison, HJP already has money and fame, AND YET, he still wants SDM. Says a lot doesn't it?

it's like two poor people falling in love. But once one of them becomes rich and famous, they forget their poor ex. It happens in Kdrama, and it happens in real life.

Not sure if writer's fault for casting the wrong actors or what.

But since it's a live airing, the writer should have look at audience feedback a little.

It's already episode 10, and a majority of fans are unhappy with the pairing of SDM and NDS. That is on the shoulder of the writer to adjust, or at least make the pairing more plausible.

Romantic music, beautiful scenery and promotional material should not be the reason why two people fall in love and end up together.

Okay I literally lasted half an hour. I should be studying why am I doing this?If HJP is endgame then everything…
I agree with this, in fact I was thinking along the same lines as you. Marriage/family is the one last thing missing in HJP's arc. Grandma does ask him all these, and said basically unless HJP is married, he is not OK/happy.

HJP marrying during the time skip, falling in love and marrying WIJ or Saha, will end up being the worst way to kill HJP's character. And will prove once again, the writing on the show is bad.

If HJP ends up with the ancestor girl, lee bo young, i'd be happy as a clam. I still stand by my assessment, HJP can do better than SDM.

That was wildly entertaining to read. It somehow makes sense since Dosan is such a man child. I wonder if Sigmund…
i'm thinking more of the story of Oedipus, where he literally falls in love with his mother, and hated his father. I admit I didn't read much on the complex, just the first paragraph on wikepedia. LOL!

The 4 attachment styles sounds interesting, I may google it later, and read about it more.

Okay, I haven't read through the latest comments yet so I'm sorry if I repeat what someone has already said but…
Yes, I also think HJP will end up taking care of Grandma, because he is a good boy. Not sure about giving up his wealth, I have a slightly different theory.

I think NDS is going to change in the US, and not for the better. I think SDM will go with NDS, but when they come back, NDS will have a very big head, and he won't care to give SST wings. Since he has become a hotshot now and is living of the royalty of his books.

He will not share his wealth with his pals, or maybe even his parents, because success changes people. just like love changes people. NDS has shown himself to be mentally weak as well, like when he first fell in love, he went so overboard with it. He also foreshadows this change when NDS says, rich people are jerks, rich people are greedy. Once 3 years time has passed with NDS working at 2STO, he will undoubtedly be rich, thus it's a self fulfilling prophecy, where NDS becomes both a jerk and greedy.

SST at this point is probably nearly out of funding, and will fail soon. HJP will come in, and even if he has no reason to, he will personally invest in SST, and become the new CEO.

This would close the Yong San arc nicely too, as Yong San will see HJP has changed, and he will forgive HJP.

And since, I predict WIJ's company would be global partner of 2STO, and NDS is working for 2STO. When he comes back, he takes over WIJ company.

And now it becomes a David and Goliath battle of NDS new company Injae Group, vs his old company SST.

Somehow, HJP is going to win the battle, and SDM will see NDS and HJP in a new light.

That's what I got so far.

Some people commented before that it seems like Dal Mi was more angry with Ji Pyung than with Do San after learning…
I think, the reason SDM is more angry with HJP rather than NDS is because NDS's lies spanned at most 6 months. So it really wasn't enough to affect who she was as a person.

HJP lies, actually defined and shapes who she ended up becoming as a woman. She even addresses this in her final letters.

When she is thankful she gave her something else to remember that spring, instead of just her father dying.

This gave her confidence, and allowed her to see the silver lining in life. To have taken away from you, a big part of who you are must be crushing for SDM, so I can completely understand why she is angrier at HJP.

BUT, I also think, because his words did help form who she eventually become, she is also thankful to HJP and Grandma.

Right now though, she is still so angry and hurt, she hasn't reach the point where she becomes thankful to them.

Ok, the comment section totally ruined this drama for me. it's turn out to be a fanfiction and people predicts…
This is on the writers shoulder. They enticed people to watch Start Up with big name leads, an interesting premise, and a great first 2 episodes that had potentially to be one of the great shows of 2020.

Then they decided to spend the next 8 episodes focusing on a love triangle, which is poorly done, where the second lead is outshining the ML, to the point that the actor portraying the 2L has become very popular in a short amount of time.

Sensing that too many fans were misconstruing the 2L as ML, the writers have started to vilify the 2L character. Unfortunately with only 6 episodes left, this has caused the writing to be very chaotic, inconsistent and frankly very unrealistic, even by Kdrama standards.

So what you see is the byproduct of lazy writing. Can't believe they spent 2 years writing this. They should have taken another year to polish it.

So I've been reading the latest comments and I've lost hope again in Miji endgame. I'm thinking specifically of…
I don't understand this part at all. You do know, if you actually counted screen time of all the actors, NJH has had the most out of all the characters right?

The story has revolved mostly around him as well.

HJP's story, aside from episode 1, has always been in the background.

And i'll say it again. NDS, SDM, and WIJ is already over. They have already accomplished the personal goals they had set out to accomplish. As of Ep. 10:

1. NDS has already accomplished his goal of making SST successful enough for his parents to be proud. His move to 2STO solidifies this regardless if they fail on Demo Day.

2. SDM at this point, has already shown she is a success to her sister, and WIJ, after that scene were NDS confronted her is starting to come around. No doubt, after demo day, WIJ would have fully respect SDM, which is all that SDM wants.

3. WIJ, wanted to prove to his father, and to SDM that she can succeed on her own, without her father's money to help her. She has shown this repeatedly, in fact her Arc has ended quite a few episodes ago.

That leaves our Good Boy HJP. Ever since the beginning, we know his goal, and true desire has to have a family. And yet, at end of Ep. 10, his road to attaining his personal goal has never been more cloudy.

HJP is the only Arc remaining of the Main cast that has yet to be fulfilled. His future and destiny is still up in the air.

I mean the OP has a point, the writer is showing their bias here. All those negative aspect you say HJP has is either being magnified, and some of the good intentions are being vilified.

In contrast, NDS negative aspects, are being romanticized, and his positive aspects are being exaggerated.

It has become clear that the writing isn't consistent anymore, as they are readying the remaining 6 episodes to be a montage of why NDS deserves SDM.

Back to the scrunchy again >.<
