girl, forget extravaganza, those were basic expensive formal outfits and no where near ‘inspiring’. The unique…
... it's just my personal opinion. I'm just comparing these k-drama fits to the basic idea of of not 'in fashion' which would be a like a basic t and jeans not styled vs a basic t and shirt styled with accessories. The way I like to think of it: you can put together fits similar to such really easily from basic pieces that could be found in a common closet. That's why I find it to be more personally inspiring to me. Just my opinion, just an area of style that I personally find myself leaning more towards.
It's giving really bad cake with the best, most pristine, most perfect decorations on top. The decorations is the props to the makeup artist, the stylist, the actors (like the looks), and the acting. BUT THE REALLY REALLY BAD CAKE is to the screenwriter and director because the plot is not giving me the cake to my cream cheese frosting, with chocolate and fruit decorations. Like the ratio of the ingredients (the issues of the plot) doesn't mix well and as a result, it tastes like shit. Like I want to eat a cake that has me wanting to binge finish and not a cake that has me dragging it with time like how the plot is slowly dragging me with it. Like give me a good memorable, satisfyingly, scrumptious, 'oomf' of a cake that is deserving or fitting of the decorations that you are putting on it. If the cake isn't going to deliver then at least give me more cake then decorations because although the decor is top notch, just eating that on its own is waaayyyy toooo sweet. The cake isn't cakeing.
In terms of plot, its alright, a little draggy at times. In terms of acting, the expressions of both ml and fl are sooo unquestionably in sync! And the fashion! My top 3 favourite k-dramas in terms of fashion is It's ok not to be ok, Hotel del Luna, and Penthouse (although this one isn't as memorable to me as the first two it's still overall up there). And then there is this one! It's not often you find any drama where both the ml and fl are dressed 'in fashion' like as if they about to attend a fashion show everyday. Hotel del Luna: fl was better dressed then ml most of the time. It's ok not to be ok: fl was fashion and ml was function. But here, it's from the pjs, to the casual, to the work, to the formal, to the dramatic, and the wedding, where all was such a fitting fit. The fits of the fls in both It's ok not to be ok and Hotel del Luna was really extravagant and the best but as an inspiration..... maybe in a different life where I am a rich artistic psychotic. And the fits in Penthouse would be inspiration if I was evil and rich, or just really fucking rich. But then this drama is just more down to earth and therefore although the fits aren't extravagant, they are definitely more of an inspiration.
The fashion in this drama!!! Like who just casually wears such a 'jacket' at home. Its giving jacket because of the buttons and how thick that material looks like a thick wool jacket. Like normal people or the common person in this situation right after a shower would just slap on a T, hoodie, zip hoodie, cardigan, or a tang. Everything from the pjs, home wear, casual 'street' wear, professional wear, and the wedding is sooooo 'in fashion'.
Through the 5 yrs that I've been watching dramas, I've never wanted to drop one so bad after watching so many…
Because this comment is so long I don't mind if people over look it but I just couldn't take it anymore and really needed to rant how much I don't like this drama but since I've endured it till this episode I might as well endure it till the end.
Through the 5 yrs that I've been watching dramas, I've never wanted to drop one so bad after watching so many episodes. I'm on ep 14 now where it's after the fl confronted the ml about her knowing about the experiment and the second phase and just when the ex comes by it's as if all her anger before means that it is justified to do some childish revenge as soon as the ex walks by. Like if the ex appears and you feel angry that means you still like him and that it is jealousy. And then her approach to the 'revenge' has the same emotional feel to when she tried to pull the experiment on him from a few eps back. And her excuse for her sudden 'forgiveness' is that she all of the sudden, over night, can empathize with him; that she understands that it was all work and now that the experiment is over it's all good. If before when she knew about the experiment she came to reasoning that, despite this all being a lie SooHyun did end up developing feelings of love for her (ironically as this goes on it also disproves his whole hypothesis and philosophy on love), and the fact that he did means that that HyeRim loves SooHyun and vice versa. By the time she opens the safe and realizes that she was really being played, it was already phase 2 and they were both already pretty in love. So at this point does it really matter if it all was an experiment or not. She then goes on to excepting that she was approached with an ulterior motive and then chooses not to confront him. But if she feels that she could accept how it was a lie at first but true in the end that should mean that she could confront him and accept the tasks of phase 2. But no she never does instead the screenwriter gets her to take the more shallow route, which is her dragging her feelings, then realizing that she does care more than she thought that she was lied to, and that she can't overlook the lies of the experiment for SooHyun's true feelings. And after what seems like a big revelation to her after the last straw of SooHyun asking her to confess like a crazy lady, she chooses childish revenge. At this emotional point shouldn't things get serious for once to show emphasis. So something like revenge and especially starting it so emotionally illogically, shouldn't this have been for like the many times that she thought was in an experiment of prior to opening the safe or when she was told to film a video message. And I say that her approach to the revenge is emotionally illogical because how much she showed to SooHyun how it affected her making him think that this is the last straw, and there was no prior emotional build up that she shown or built with SooHyun that could explain her excuse for her sudden change in mood and forgiveness. Part of her excuse being that she thinks that the experiment is cancelled also doesn't make sense. because after being lied to so many time for that reason at this point even someone in SooHyun's position should be crazy to think that she truly means what she says unless they truly think she is filled with naiveness no matter how many times the same lie was told. I know this is meant to be a light hearted drama where technical details are to be overlooked but after seeing SooHyun lie to HyeRin so many times despite knowing his love for her is not only contradictory to his philosophy, but it also made this drama so hard to watch. Like I feel bad for HyeRin but you would think that after so much espeacially going through a divorce before that something would've dawned on her to not being so trusting and forgiving to those who play her feelings. And in this ep 14, you would think that it would be impossible to trust SooHyun anymore because picks and chooses when to act like a lover and a psychologist conducting an experiment, and in HyeRin's perspective, it is pretty much impossible to tell who is who. And again all the scenes of the two expressing their love was so cheesy that it almost seemed sarcastically fake at times and especially since SooHyun is going back and forth with no progression between his 2 personas. So although I'm almost near the end of ep 14, I feel like based how she goes about the revenge the drama is going to have an ending where everyone just gets blinded by love again and that will then resolve any other issues with no logical resolve.
How come they do not make this kind of drama anymore?
That's like asking why don't people dress the same as they did in the 90's or why don't modern day hip hop artists do things and make songs like the ones from the 80s and 90s. This style of drama at the time was like the trend but now it's shifted so they don't make such dramas anymore. That doesn't mean that these kinds of dramas just gone bad it's just a shift in demand and audience.
I just starting to learn about basic economics in grade 12 can understand just the surface of how the plot progresses. If I was any younger I would've dropped this drama right away. So I'd really like to watch this again but only when I am able to understand it better myself or if someone were to watch it with me to help me understand it.
