We're not even halfway and I'm already crying at every damn episode, I need to stop doing this to myself but at the same time I can't stop watching them! TJR is rocking this double/triple role I'm loving him!
Also, the OST is beautiful too which is making me even more immersed in this worldbuilding.
PS, I love weasel guy and given how his character is depicted (so FoF's Ying-Lei vibes!) i'm almost 100% sure he's one of the ones dying in the end. ^^'
Ok, as of now (ep7) this is veeeery engaging and very well filmed: as expected the costumes are on another level and the CGI in both fights and fantasy element is great. All characters are interesting and seem very layered, probably the only two I'm not really feeling are our fox ladies who look gorgeous but kinda "built".
MVP for me is Tian Jia Rui, I'm loving how he jumps from sillycutechildish to dragonpower, feels like two different actors and it's not just the make-up... he's rocking this! (And yes, I cried rivers of tears when Ji Ling popped up with the flowers!)
Also, I'm a spear fan so I'm veeeery happy to see our main lead using a spear, not to mention Ji Ling's fan and Li Jie heavy blade which looks great.
Question: I suppose Yan An and Xia Zhi Guang are voicing themselves, right?
This drama had me hooked from start to finish - and now that it finally ended, I would love to see a S2 way more than I ever hoped for it for any other series! And that is mostly because I will miss all the characters, especialy the secondary ones: I'm so curious about Gongsun Yin and the Princess, about how Li Huai An redeeming his family and hopefully finding his happiness (....yes I admit I shipped him so much with his attendee! XD)
Also, kudos to the writing for the villains: I loved our main leads but BOY did the villains rock! Sui Yuan, Qi Min, Wei Yan... I cried for all of them and their torn stories and crooked morale built tridimensional characters that will definitely stay with me for a long time.
Deng Kai was especially mesmerizing in Qi Min's devilish charisma and I must admit the bonus finale had me cry even more because not even in another dimension he could be happy...
Anyway. Simple story BUT great direction, great acting, great cinematography, amazing costumes, well written dialogues and characters... if I really really have to be picky I'd say I missed an unforgettable soundtrack since usually in wuxia/xianxia dramas I always end up playlisting ALL songs from a drama and it wasn't the case here.
10/10 for me. I will recommend this to everyone, everywhere, always.
Started off strong but got lost a bit along the way - I usually love slowburns AND especially japanese ones, but somehow this one was very well made but failed to grab my heart. Maybe it's better as a binge-watch series instead of watching it weekly.
Anyway, I LOVED Minato's grandparents and the pure and honest communication Minato has with his grandpa. That scene in ep10 where they talk made my heart melt.
I KNEW something was off with him. He was one of my favorite characters and I usually like the ones that end up…
Same, he’s a very loyal person, and this situation of having to “decide” between his vow to the people and his family bonds is clearly destroying him… I haven’t read the novel but I hope in the end he turns against his grandfather and chooses the right path (although I have a bad feeling he’s going to die for this choice).
I KNEW something was off with him. He was one of my favorite characters and I usually like the ones that end up dead XD So I was thinking to myself: "he's kind, intelligent, goodlooking but looks like he won't get a wife in the end... so he'll probably either die or he's the traitor in some way!" ... and yeah, looks like it was the second option AND I'm afraid he's on the highway for the first option too... sigh.
I really don't understand why people must go around badmouthing artists and series.
This is my first time watching most of the actors in this drama and I'm loving everyone, they are hitting all the right notes: every character is so round and vivid, and the way in which every actor is portraying them rocks! The precise but artistic direction helps a lot in turning this lovestory into something really engaging, with nice dialogues and nice shots - if I have to find a (minor) flaw it would be the OST because I'm not feeling most of the songs (except for this one: https://youtu.be/rutZgQtexnc?si=7MZ67eMaOnIzha98 ).
Anyway, just to say: stop spreading hate! If you love another actor or actress, instead of badmouthing the ones in this series, do the opposite: spread the love for your loved ones so that people can get to know them! Shit-talking is doing the exact contrary.
lip to lip, nose to nose, cheek to cheek, eye to eye. pttp are actually crazy like their acting is so good i can…
I rewatched that ending scene so many times, it makes my heart bloom! Their smiles, happiness, shy but eager need of each other, their gentleness, the longing for intimacy.... that was really a perfect scene. <3
Why do they always have to do these "i won't tell him anything and just go"... i hope it's the last time it happens because at the second, third, fourth time now it starts to become irritating.
(Qi Min: your name is printed as the definition of "better stay away" on every encyclopedia...!)
Aw, thanks!! I feel like the ratings on MDL for less popular cdramas, including this one, are more fairly rated…
Agree on the voting, often actors' fans tend do mass-vote projects both in positive and negative (not always obviously, but for chinese and thailand series it's indeed a thing) so some gems without idols are hidden in the desert while some other not-bad-but-not-great series have 8/9 ratings.
Anyway, that makes it even more fun when we find interesting underrated dramas! :)
Although the actual "don't tell her the husband and the marquis are the same man!" moment is becoming a bit farfetched, it's still such an enthralling watch! Great costumes, great acting, nice visuals and music, and all the characters are (up to now) well written and portrayed! Can't wait for next episodes, and all the praise is deserved! Go go go cast & crew!

Yesssss another promising series with a great cast, can't wait to see Yan An again!

Point number 2: love the MDL accounts with the characters name, so fun! XD

PS: Por/Qin can be so seductive but at the same time he looks so pure and sweet when he smiles! This guy has a feline's charm, he's just so wow!

Enjoy your weekend! <3
Dramas would last 10 episodes if the characters in it would just communicate. XD
Btw I'm in love with Wu, he's such a loyal friend and attendant, I really hope he stays alive.
