I really don't understand why people must go around badmouthing artists and series.
This is my first time watching most of the actors in this drama and I'm loving everyone, they are hitting all the right notes: every character is so round and vivid, and the way in which every actor is portraying them rocks! The precise but artistic direction helps a lot in turning this lovestory into something really engaging, with nice dialogues and nice shots - if I have to find a (minor) flaw it would be the OST because I'm not feeling most of the songs (except for this one: https://youtu.be/rutZgQtexnc?si=7MZ67eMaOnIzha98 ).
Anyway, just to say: stop spreading hate! If you love another actor or actress, instead of badmouthing the ones in this series, do the opposite: spread the love for your loved ones so that people can get to know them! Shit-talking is doing the exact contrary.
lip to lip, nose to nose, cheek to cheek, eye to eye. pttp are actually crazy like their acting is so good i can…
I rewatched that ending scene so many times, it makes my heart bloom! Their smiles, happiness, shy but eager need of each other, their gentleness, the longing for intimacy.... that was really a perfect scene. <3
Why do they always have to do these "i won't tell him anything and just go"... i hope it's the last time it happens because at the second, third, fourth time now it starts to become irritating.
(Qi Min: your name is printed as the definition of "better stay away" on every encyclopedia...!)
Aw, thanks!! I feel like the ratings on MDL for less popular cdramas, including this one, are more fairly rated…
Agree on the voting, often actors' fans tend do mass-vote projects both in positive and negative (not always obviously, but for chinese and thailand series it's indeed a thing) so some gems without idols are hidden in the desert while some other not-bad-but-not-great series have 8/9 ratings.
Anyway, that makes it even more fun when we find interesting underrated dramas! :)
Although the actual "don't tell her the husband and the marquis are the same man!" moment is becoming a bit farfetched, it's still such an enthralling watch! Great costumes, great acting, nice visuals and music, and all the characters are (up to now) well written and portrayed! Can't wait for next episodes, and all the praise is deserved! Go go go cast & crew!
How's the "love component" here, strong or just a side theme? I want to watch to try and see Gong Jun in a modern set and because I usually like investigation dramas, BUT honestly all the reviews are rated 10 while the drama is 7.7 so I'm kinda lost as what's really going on... XD
what I interpret is that it's a temporary page, although the comment was posted seven months ago already, so it's quite some time for something temporary...
A lot of them did pass censorship, but then China decided to ban all material taken from gay novels even when…
Thank you! So basically once they submit the product to the censorship office it becomes "china's property" and the producers cannot retrieve them as long as this 5years pass is active? Like a copyright expiration date somehow?
Some of these series have huge actors names in it, or come from material that has a big international fandom so yeah... fingers crossed!
This is such a good review, I read it only now that i finished watching the series and I agree with the shounen anime/manga vibe AND the harry potter trio, ahahah!
This drama is not a masterpiece for sure but it's fun and entertaining, but I always feel like people downrate things if they find no lovestory. ^^'
It's not really the focus of the story, but: for main lead & female lead there is a hint to something that doesn't really ever develop, while for second ML&FL yes there is a bit more but nothing huge.
Aaaand, finally finished! It took me a lot more time than expected to bingewatch it, but definitely not because it's boring: the story was entertaining and the characters had each his own charm. Again I'm going to say it was nice seeing LHY in a fun, nerdy role and I loved his character's friendship with Gu Tian (who's probably my favourite character together with Jiu).
I've seen many comments talking about an open ending but honestly, I didn't really find it "open": there is no "real" development on the romantic part (for the leads) but aside from that all other points are pretty clear and closed (even YingYing situation)... although yeah, I wasn't expecting all the "theatrical" stuff, kinda made me think "uh? what's happening?". XD
All in all it was a good watch: fun, entertaining, witty, and with the right lenght to develop a good story without dragging. I suppose the budget wasn't huge (costumes and colours were definitely not on par with other 2025 series) and I would have loved a bit more care on the audio department (again: loved the actors voices, BUT please let us hear them well and clearly)... but I'd say the rating deserves to be a bit higher.
The OST was top tier, the opening really rocks! And I especially loved the moments "inside Fu Sheng thoughts", I found that parallel world to be very fun and an interesting way to show his reasoning.
Is Pursuit of Jade actually worth watching? I checked it out because of the rating, but I’m not feeling the…
Do watch it: as for the main lead, he's actually the opposite - strong physically and mentally, dedicated, loyal to the country and the people (and loved ones, obviously).
And also, I wouldn't say it's slow: there are several things happening and different stories interwoven in a world that falls into war and political intrigues. The "love" part is taking little by little to build up, but that's basically because they are more busy trying to stay alive. XD
I know Qi Min is one damn madman and deserves the worst, but I'm loving Deng Kai's acting so much - he's such an incredible "bad guy", he looks magnetic!
Watching Duang feels like watching the version of boyhood a lot of us never got to see in real life. There’s…
I so agree! I'm turning 40 next year and have been reading mangas since I was about 10; when I was in first years of high school I started reading BLs and yaoi (obviously being targeted as the nerd who likes weird stuff) and soon after found my way to asian dramas too. When I think back to those media (which I honestly love and still love today) the toxicity was so rampant but also felt so completely normal... at some times, even deserved... which is horrifying if we think about it! And it's not only a matter of the main characters, but the whole world surrounding them: friends, families, school...
So happy this drama is conquering hearts, it's such a deserved attention and a beautiful change of pace. <3
Oh and one more thing: there is also so much positivity in this comment section, which is really a pleasure: seeing how everyone is loving this series despite age, gender and nationality proves how we really need this kind of fresh, honest and warm content.
Once again, I must say I really love the positivity this drama spreads: the care, the communication, the possibility to be different without having to justify it or to sit straight into the lines, the gentle and steady support but also the vivid joy and excitement found in happiness.
Yes, the plot is basically the most futile we could ever find, because how many university BLs have we seen? With the "outgoing but nerd guy falls in love with the coldest but hottest campus star" AND we even have guitars and beauty contests and so on... BUT STILL, these characters are so relatable and lovable, and also the way in which they stay true to themselves and interact is so precious! I wish we could have seen more of this positivity back in the days, I mean when I think back at some of the biggest dramas of my teen years (which means AGES ago since I'm a grandma XD) there was so much toxicity! Which is ok too, all stories are valuable, but it's nice and refreshing to see two characters growing to fall in love with care and respect at their own pace.
I hope we won't lose them now with the "love rival + jealousy" clichè in the next episode.
And also: Por is really, really goodlooking! When he smiles I instadie! XD
PPS, I even liked Jamie/Mars minute this episode, although I kinda feel they are not well integrated with the rest of the story's flow.

PS: Por/Qin can be so seductive but at the same time he looks so pure and sweet when he smiles! This guy has a feline's charm, he's just so wow!

Enjoy your weekend! <3
Dramas would last 10 episodes if the characters in it would just communicate. XD
Btw I'm in love with Wu, he's such a loyal friend and attendant, I really hope he stays alive.
