I also thought they had a weakness towards cold but apparently it is not that bad, the small thing just unthawed without a problem after being completely frozen under liquid nitrogen. The reason why spheres did not appear over Antarctica and some part of Russia is likely because there are no people there. Spheres where concentrated near places with many people, that was told at some point

things I didn't like: the acting (I can't understand FL's acting style in general but here it is also directing of main character's interactions that I found very weird and unnatural) and the non-linear story-telling with endless confusing time-jumps.
