What started out as a curiosity (based on the poster and synopsis) turned into a pleasant surprise. This drama flew under the radar for me that I was fortunate to discover it by chance.
It's light hearted enough without being overly complex and the pacing was so smooth that 42 episodes didn't feel that long. The leads and the supporting cast were great, and the martial arts choreography was quite well done in fact.
The only blip is the ending - really hope there's a season 2. Other than that, it's a great production.
Such a pleasant surprise because I honestly went in without any expectations. I totally misunderstood what the show was about because of the poster (my bad for not really reading the synopsis), but then the actual story is way better.
Watched this after finishing Guest to satisfy my craving for horror during lock down, which probably isn't really a good idea...
Anyway, Priest presents a more polished version of Guest with all the organised system and establishment set up to combat evil, as opposed to the motley crew of unlikely heroes in Guest that probably made things up as they went along.
But I guess that's the beauty of it. I enjoyed Guest more probably because it was more engaging and less...sanitized?
Sorry about the comparison, but you can't escape comparing them both. So much so that I thought the final name to be revealed was going to be the same :D
Watched this during lock down a couple of months ago, and I was going through a "horror phase" with marathon of Guest and Priest, so needed another horror to make it a trilogy :D
Interestingly, out of the 3, this was the only one that wasn't related to Catholic priesthood and more to folk lore and traditional shamanism. It wasn't as horrific but it presented an insight into local traditional cultures and practices of shamans, so I found it really intriguing.
The entire cast did a good job, although they could've added more depth to the plot which, in actual fact, is really all about revenge.
I hear there's a season 2 so maybe something there's more to the tale than we originally thought...
I am quite concerned about the fact that there are no subs yet. There's no way that the subbing will stop right?
I know how you feel. Hate it when a show that's currently airing has subtitle issues and you've got to wait for new episodes that can't appear soon enough.
Which is why I'm putting this show on hold first till it airs midway to three quarters, then I'll pick it up.
Its very quickly turned into the best show I am currently watching.
Truth be told, Qing era is not my cup of tea. Having said that, some pretty good shows are set during this time period,so I guess I can live with that.
The ML looks good half bald anyway, compared to most folks. In a funny kind of way, it's like Jet Li who actually looks better without hair...
I really sorry if I'm asking out of topic, can you give me recommend series that similar with the song of glory…
Agree with the recommendations below. If you're in it for the fighting, Heroes (2020), and the Condor series (2017 and 2019). I haven't yet watched but from what I saw of the trailer for Love In Between, looks pretty decent as well.
If you're looking for strong female leads who can kick ass, again as mentioned, Princess Agents, Fuyao and The Legends (but heavy use of CGI). The others that are currently airing I haven't started watching yet so can't really say for now.
Do bear in mind, if you're not a fan of CGI, I guess you probably should steer clear of xianxia (supernatural, deities, fairies) and stick to pure wuxia (kungfu, jianghu, wulin).
After a hiatus of almost 2 years, I can see a slight difference in Zhao Liying. She looks more....mature. And I like it! Motherhood does become her.
Looking forward to this :)
Even when 43-48 comes out later this week, the subs only come on next week.
Anyways, I hope the worst is over, I really do.
I sincerely hope not.
Late to the party but hey, better late than never right?
:)

I seem to recall an ancient punishment that took place in that era - death by a thousand slices, something like that.
Oh well, will just have to wait and see :o
Or they could do a tag team on her, because somehow Leqing seems to have 9 lives so they need as much help as they can get.
But one thing's for sure. It's not going to be a guy who takes her down. I think.

Everything fell apart towards the end (or was it the middle). Literally.
The premise had so much potential and the acting is quite brilliant, but all that was let down by the poor plot.
