Very nicely written, I love your write-up! You've covered most of the pertinent themes on show in this drama. And yes, I'm watching it as well. The first couple of episodes were extremely violent yet gratifying at the same time! I'm not sure if it's the right thing to feel (probably not lol) but the revenge dished out felt utterly...satisfying. Then of course the following episodes at the high school gave us Lee Je Hoon in a totally different, but delightful and adorable, portrayal :D

Let's continue on this path of vengeance and see where it takes us!

I love Tang and yes, Wu Zetian is one of my favourite historical figures too. She's amazing and I wish more biopics of her life would be made in the future. Li Shimin is great as well and I thought he was quite decently portrayed in this drama :)

That's a very good point that you made. Having a guide does help especially when encountering a whole new culture and history for the first time. The episode duration factor makes a lot of sense too in comparison with K-dramas.
