It hurts me to say this. Even if XY was still the Princess of Haoling, she would still push A Nian to him. XY already made her preference cleared that she wanted to be the only wife. Also King Haoling would push A Nian to CX because he wanted to grant her wish to marry CX. One of the chance CX to be with XY is probably before his quest for the throne. If only he confessed sooner and get a commitment from her before pushing her to Jing to get his support. Then maybe CX would have a chance with XY. 😢

CX was the first one in XY's heart before Jing and XL came along. He was everything to her. During her hardest moments, she thought of her gege. Due to his quest for the throne, decisions and other unforeseen circumstances, he lost her. He only wanted to be the king to protect his loved ones. Several times he mentioned he just really wanted a simple life. It's too bad he lost his chance. So I don't think it's fair to say that CX never had a chance with her.

I do see this as some viewers are barely scratching the surface to understand the characters' perspectives.
