Yes that separation was so very detrimental and changed their path in life. I can't deny how he treated her in Qing Shui Town. Yes he was blind. LOL He only got aggressive with her because she kidnaped A Nian. You know how protective he is of his family. He made efforts to get along with Wen Xiaoliu and the people of Hui Chun Hall. Plus he asked her nicely to go see King of Haoling, but she played tricks and tried to escape. I know breaking her legs was too harsh. And you see later, how regretful he felt for hurting XY. 😭

From my perspective, there was never a chance for romance between those two." I have a different perspective on this. CX is the first one in her heart but fate was cruel to them. Had CX, grandfather, or King of Haoling picked her up from Jade Mountain, the path of the story would have been different. She wouldn't' suffered and have abandonment issue. During her captivity, thinking about Xuan was her only solace. Plus Xuan is not a hard person to love. Just look at how he treated her when they were little. In short, I can't say there was no chance of romance for them. In present time. so far I have to commend how Xuan use peaceful negotiation tactics to win over people instead of war and bloodshed. To him it's not just about having power.
I just only watched the first scene of YaoXuan in ep 1 in which XY returned the Ruomu flower and I'm already in tears. 😭😭💔💔 Sacrificing your heart and happiness to get power in order protect the one you love is heart shattering. You can feel his heavy heart. 💔
