Not really it literally added nothing to the story other than putting a good heir on the throne. The uncle and the tension between the families was the main focal point of the story. We had the ruthless killer in Yuan Qing who acted as the main antagonist to the couple. All we saw Qi Min do was fawn over Quan Quian and kill people for even breathing on her. If they would've played more into him getting back on the throne instead of focusing more on that aspect late in the story it would've been better.

The people romanticizing Qi Min and Quan Quian need help smdh🤣

Wow. I loved this..... Uncle Wei Yan you fool!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭 I was legit in tears when he drank that poison. He loved Xi Zheng like his own son. He loved his nation and became a bad person for the sake of getting his own form of justice against that corrupt emperor and that hatred consumed him even more. He legit became my favorite character in the last few episodes. He wasn't a coward he was resolute in all of his decisions. I think they could've handled that Qi Min obsession better, how did they expect us to feel bad for him after how horrible he was🤣 Last but not least, how did they not give us a scene with the Li'nan family reacting to Zheng being the Marquis🤣🤣🤣 this was a 10/10 drama

Episode 37 was arguably my favorite one so far🤣 the uncle may be a bad guy but he has this aura about him

So I work today. There is an anime I have to catch up on and I'll watch that after work. So tomorrow when I'm off I can binge the last 6 episodes with food and snacks🤣

The story starts taking shape around episode 7 or 8 once they establish everyone.

It seems like it's about to go in a very angsty direction so I may hold off on watching the newer episodes until it all airs. I never like dramas with the weird r*pist characters it's such a cheap plotline imo. He doesn't seem to be dead yet so I'll hold out.

In the end I ended up liking how they executed it. I realized it was always how she interpreted her mother so of course from the daughters perspective the mom wouldn't want her to be with the man she loves.
