When YY's asura lineage activated in episode 59th, the primordial spirit of the Heavenly Emperor went back to his body, and he came back to life. Then YY sacrificed himself to create another barrier between the realms, and YD killed herself to accompany him since death cannot do them apart. Both left crumbs of their primordial spirits, so there's a chance to resurrect them. Later, YM picks up their primordial spirits in despair. We see the happiness and peace YY and YD's sacrifice brought to the three realms. Finally, episode 59th closes by showing us that the agarwood is still burning, foreshadowing their resurrection.
Special episode 1: In the Jade Pool, where YY and YD first met, the Heavenly Emperor, Huode, Yue Yao, and other immortals celebrate the peace of the three realms. I know I’m just minority here but I actually liked it better without the two specials. I felt like the two specials…
I'm also of the group that liked the past ending but I also love the fluff of today's episodes. About the 59th episode, I feel like instead of a sad ending, it's more like an open one with many things open to the interpretation of the viewers. With their primordial spirits intact, the agarwood still burning, and the Supreme Majesty alive (he got the power to resurrect them, I guess it must be kind of similar to how he survived), it was pretty clear that they wanted to tell us that sooner or later both YY and YD will be back. But many viewers need to see a clear HE to be happy. I also think they didn't edit this ending suddenly or anything, this was probably another marketing strategy of Youku to be trending since they had them hidden since the 2nd of Sept, and I mean, it worked. They got trending with the sad ending, then again with the rumors about the specials, and one more time again with Immortal Samsara being a HE.

I feel the only missing point may be not explaining how they went back to live; besides, everything felt well done for me. I also don't feel these episodes are an alternate ending because the 59th episode felt incomplete and had many hints about them coming back. Anyway, I loved this show.
