I may add to your analysis-that is on point- that YS is taking his frustration in the recent episodes on her and on LBY because SS didn't spare him any time after ending her first engagment and got engaged again already, he is angry with her and keeps throwing her with his hurtful words yet he doesn't like others to do so.

I've just noticed something in ep 7, I always thought that YS said to SS that he'll do any favor for her in return for her help as long as it doesn't involve marrying her, but I just payed more attention now while rewatching, in tencent's translation he said "Apart from...forbidding from asking for your hand in marriage, I can agree to the rest.", and according to Viki's translation it's "except for...not being able to marry you, anything else is fine" so basically he is telling her that he is planning to ask her to marry him in the future and not that he has not interest in marrying her.

I don't think it should stop you from watching. As many dramas, yes the FL suffered in her early life, and her mother is not treating her well (not because she hates her) plus other many mean characters, but it still not that bad, she has many members of her familly and outside it who favor her, the FL herself is not the weak type either and she knows how to speak for herself, she has her up and down moments of course but nothing that will make you want to drop the drama.

When SS gave the cup to Wang Lin, I was surprised and said "wow , she learned some self-control" then she started mentioning LBY to upset her, I was like "that's my girl!"
