His solo confession signifies how pure his love for THH is. All he want is to be with and protect her till DF…
So they *are* going down that route. How unfortunate. I was so hoping they would just leave it sort of open-ended

I don;t know if any of that even made sense. It didn't to me :D

I may as well spoil the reason for THH never opening up to DFYC in the manhua, since you did say you didn't mind spoilers ?

When THH and TRR were (much?) younger, they were captured by humans (using all sorts of spells) and being transported for sale to a brothel. TRR doesn't understand what that means, but THH does, as she has been warned about human males. The main captor has an assistant who is bullied by the captor. The assistant has what seems to be a severely scarred face, which makes him seem very sinister. He approaches the cages that the two sisters are held captive in, and his words make THH think that he is going to assault them. She attacks him through the cage bars and kills him. Even as he is dying, he manages to free the two and says he used to have a spirit friend who was killed by humans and that he wishes for humans and spirits to be at peace. (He never intended to attack them, though his words did give that impression). THH is consumed by guilt and grief, and even though she didn't know him, her heart is full of him and his wish. She keeps him in a cave and preserves his soul with that flower. Since she wants his wish fulfilled, DFYC fulfils it for her, by enabling humans and spirits to form an alliance. That's why he leaves (though they made it seem like he didn;t trust her or something)

It's very convoluted and I might be remembering it completely wrong anyways:

In the manhua, the "present time" is where Yaya is the chief of Tushan, and she has two younger sisters: Rongrong and SuSu. The latter seems very very young and a bit incompetent. Her goal is to become a fox spirit matchmaker. Yaya doesn't seem to care about SuSu very much, and wants to force her into a marriage. There's also a human boy Bai Yuechu, who is extremely money-grubbing and always hankering after food, but he's quite protective of Susu (though he calls her "little dummy"). SuSu and Bai Yuechu are the main protagonists.

There are several matchmaking occurrences, where we see reincarnations of some of the characters we have in the drama, but the most important thing is the flashback:

In flashbacks we see Tushan as it is in the drama we're watching now:
Honghong is the formidable chief, Yaya is her sidekick and #1 fan, Rongrong is ... well, Rongrong :D
DFYC comes to Tushan to evade Crane and Tiger (and another guy), THH saves him, and he falls in love right then and there (but he is a kid!)
THH is generally undefeatable, except by Purest Sun Flame. Someone attacks THH with purest Sun Flame, and DFYC uses THH's hands to "stab" himself in the stomach and then kisses her: with that she's able to resist the flame and fight off the baddie.
The Tushan sisters stage the death of DFYC so that his pursuers will give up looking for him. They don't know what to do with him, but he says he wants to remain in Tushan as a servant/slave. He constantly brings THH bento boxes (even there, food was the way to THH's heart :D). All would be cute, except he's a kid still. But then he does grow up. THH never really opens up to him.
The two part ways on sort of bad terms (I don't remember why), and he becomes a leader among humans (Daoists?). There is some duel-to-the-death (again, I don't remember why) and it's at that point or sometime after that THH confesses her feelings in front of the grief tree. DFYC dies and THH gives up her powers and memories (there is some reason for this, but I don't remember that either :D )... and THH becomes SuSu. Bai Yuechu is one of DFYC's reincarnations (he has had several).

For me, such a powerful chief as THH becoming an incompetent, self-doubting "little dummy" is one of the worst endings (even though it isn;t the ending of the manhua). I can understand why Yaya has that almost hatred, because THH was someone she hero-worshipped. I don't know if SuSu ever reverts back to THH in all her glory in the manhua.

Ep14
Fave parts (still mainly silly things):

THH's jealousy throughout, in the rouge shop. Her unimpressed look when TYY was praising the first customer and the way she immediately found fault. Also the way she waited for DFYC's reply when TYY asked whether there was anything special about the second customer.
I hope she wasn't supposed to be tallying up their accounts, because she certainly wasn't doing that :D

The interpretation by the audience when the puppet fell... dear god :D
And THH's expression. And DFYC saying the old man was talking about him and that he should take it slow :D

In the eating scene, the way she hesitantly touched the corner of her mouth where he did. The way she took that roasted chestnut, like a kid learning new things for the first time. And her eyes that whole scene... so innocent and beautiful.

TRR's "I'm a fox. How can I have humanity?" Excellent question :D

Since learning of the meaning behind lily pods and lotus seeds, her pause when he tells her he added those ingredients (I didn't understand her pause until I read the comment on MDL). Also her somewhat playful "it's great" This is the first time she says his food is great instead of "not bad", even if she was being sarcastic (but was she?)

Her seeing that book that Liushang lent him xD

His "my heart is not an inn" :D and her apology (on behalf of her sisters)

"I'm not a sidekick. I'm your perfect match." Could be interpreted in terms of ability. Or other things

TYY the ice pop thief :D

I liked that THH didn't give in to Elder, though I have a feeling that could backfire. Elder does seem to be genuinely concerned about her, but I hope his loyalty to Tushan doesn't make him do something stupid.

THH subtly warning Lai not to hurt TYY. She loves her little sisters.

Random thoughts and questions:

When DFYC grabs THH and takes her out of the shop, TYY says "you just want to hang out together without me ". So she *does* know of their feelings for each other? (Sometimes it seems like she does, and sometimes it feels like she's oblivious. Or maybe she does know but is trying to pretend nothing's going on between the two)

THH actually allows herself to be led about by him! Also allows herself to be surprised by him.

That lion dance seemed cool. I need to go watch some on YouTube or somewhere.

Why would Elder think THH would abandon Tushan just because she's in love? Who does he think is the right person/spirit for THH if DFYC isn't? It's not like she encouraged anyone else over centuries.

Elder *was* about to divulge the secret when THH stopped him. I hope THH finds a way to tell DFYC instead of him learning from others (though that would be one awkward conversation).

I love how Yue Chu's Motto is "REACH THE HEART THROUGH THE STOMACH" 🤣
This! I was going to comment the same thing and forgot :D

He even got her to take medicine by offering roast chicken

I have no attachment to the manhua version (at all), and I'm much happier with the drama. I am hoping for a better ending for the drama

I didn't either. It's great to find out about things like that. Little tidbits we probably would never hear of if not for dramas (and isn't that a great excuse for watching them :D )

Him being able to see the memories was never part of the original story (in the original, someone just tells them the story - and the story was different), so this is all new territory.

In the manhua, she never unbent to him as she's doing in the drama, so it's difficult to predict as well...

Yeah. I hope drama doesn't use that to drive a wedge between the two. They've only just started interacting a little more freely.

He really is (getting daring)!

I loved her reactions in these two eps. I don't know why exactly she decided to reveal her feelings more openly all of a sudden (though, thinking about it, maybe Bu Tai's death was a sort of catalyst. BT and SK could have had so much more time together if only they'd confessed sooner. Maybe THH doesn't want that to happen with DFYC). In any case, I'm glad she is. And I'm glad he realizes it.

I hope someone noticed that he didn't pledge his alliance at that point

Maybe she meant in afterlife…😭
In the FSM world, a bond between spirit and human can be preserved through multiple reincarnations of the human (since humans have shorter lifespans)
