Just on ep 15 and my biggest problem is that Tang San keeps putting himself at risk for Xiao Wu when he doesn't…
You make a very good point about honesty, I didn't think of that. For me though, it's not that he told her a lot (it was his choice after all), but that she holds him in such a high regard and is ready to fight for him and make sacrifices, but apparently doesn't trust him enough anyway.
If Wu yelling out 'TANG SAN' regularly gets your goat to this extent, I have to warn you there is this one thing…
I really hope they won't make any major cast changes, not sure if I will care about XW (probably not), but I just prefer when shows stick with the same cast. And if Wu XY is not filming, she might be the easiest one to work out the schedule with. I saw a lot of comments about XZ not returning, but honestly, they are just repeating Chinese gossip sites bs. It's not even about my own preference. Yes it is a good drama, regardless of the actors, but they lost novel fans due to changes and they will lose XZ fans if they change him. And they will likely loose the investors without him, too. Tencent will probably bend over backwards to get him to return.
When I called Master supporting, I meant from the perspective that there are only two leads and everyone else is ether supporting or guest. But I guess you can say that that the whole Shi Lan Ke cast (including Master) is more of a main cast, since they are not focusing on TS as much as was expected. But the Master, though. I've just watched ep 35 yesterday and Wow! So ripped! My jaw actually dropped.
Didn't they actually go for romance between TS and XW in the end? I haven't seen the last 3 episodes, but couldn't avoid the spoilers, no matter how I tried.
Whoa that's awesome. Wonder if they will keep the same time period? Noon is a bit tough. No wonder so many people…
I think I saw something about students being on the break at the time, also there was a Spring festival week and due to pandemic a lot of people work from home. So probably they were banking on that. And judging by the ratings it worked out :)
So many are complaining and saying donghua had better fight scenes....like dude you do realise that's pure anime…
CGI and fight scenes are not the same thing. CGI is pretty good here, but I do agree with the point people make about the the fight scenes being badly choreographed. Maybe it's a budget thing (they couldn't hire a good action director or something?), but even from my, inexperienced in this genre, lenient point of view, fights look pretty boring. And I have not seen the anime, so this is not about comparison. For a marital arts drama, fight scenes are a big part to fail on.

The look vs actual age thing of Chinese people is crazy. They always look so young. I mean XZ is 29, he looks like a goddamn teenager in some recent pictures. How? Romance is so secondary here, I would also prefer if they let it be, and focus on the main storyline. There's so much talk about season 2, but it depends on so many things, I don't know how much of that talk is real and how much is bs to get people to watch. If they do get to it, I'm hopeful they will do better, but there is so much that goes into production and screenwriter is probably not the person making ultimate decisions, so... who knows. Master and Headmaster are so good together. Like usually older characters are more of a background (unless it's a main villain), but they are like the best part of the supporting cast.

I was thinking about The Wolf, that basically got turned into a strainer to take out the part about ML transforming into the wolf. But you are right about the censorship, it does seem like it depends on the mood and since this is now also a CCTV drama, they might just let it slide. What I meant about her being a soul beast is not the actual age, but mentality. I think in that dialog they said that said soul beast will have a child's intellect? Not sure, if I'm remembering it right and don't remember the episode to rewatch. And also she grew up in a forest and knows nothing about human relationship. So romance feels kinda wrong in that context. But so far it's barely there and very childlike, so it's fine. I get what you mean about her following him around. It doesn't bother me as much, but it does get a little annoying sometimes. Don't you like it when she gets knocked out from the start? LOL Master & Headmaster are Gold! That lady, what's her name, is ruining it. She's worse than XW when it comes to following Master around, ugh!
They did get it announced but I doubt it will have the same cast.
Announcement doesn't mean anything, when it comes to Chinese dramas, considering they didn't even start filming. Especially if the cast doesn't come back. I like this drama and I would likely watch it no matter what cast, but I am also not a big fan of cast changes. I just get used to a certain image and it feels wrong. And in China XZ is contributing like 70% of the viewership. Considering that novel fans don't like the changes they made and XZ fans won't watch if he's not there, I doubt anyone would put much money into season 2 if they change the actors.
I still have 7 episodes to go, so I think I will be avoiding this comment section until I'm finished. People seem to have some kind of aversion to spoiler tag. But now, I'm almost sure that this will end on a massive cliffhanger. Here's hoping season 2 is not just empty talk.

To me it just felt like that's all Orihime ever did and she seemed so useless really, even though they tried to pretend that she's not. I wasn't a big fan of Rukia ether, though. The only female character I liked was Rangiku. XW, at last, can stand up for herself, which helps. Anyway, to each their own. I just like characters that pretend to be dumb, but are actually strong and capable, and XW seems like a version of that. I also have a theory based on their talk about advanced soul beasts (don't remember the episode, somewhere in the beginning), that can turn into humans, that she is actually one of those soul beasts and that's why she's so naive. But there are two problems with that theory: Chinese censorship won't let them explicitly state that she's not human. And also if I' m right, then her relationship with TS progressing to romance becomes kind of disturbing, because if she is actually like a child then... ew. I don't really mind them being close (even though her following him around does get annoying sometimes), but I guess I don't feel it. In the forest, when he went crazy because she was kidnapped, I was like "WTF?! Where did that come from?". Dai Mu Bai and Zhu Zhu Qing are the ones I rooting for, when it comes to romance.
It seems that many people dislike the female lead. I’m probably among the minority who actually likes her because…
I also like her. Their relationship development felt kind of too fast when they went from "hi" to "I will die for you" in the span of couple of episodes, but I have no problem with her as a character, maybe because she's actually capable.
Ok, I have read so many reviews here and this is Indeed a proof of how different people's perspectives are. I…
I actually dropped The Untamed twice, before finishing it. It was my first c-drama and I just couldn't get over the fact of how ridiculous they look compared to the anime. I did like it after finishing, wouldn't call it a masterpiece and the pace is bit slow and wonky, but I think they did pretty good considering the low budget. There is a special edition version of the Untamed that's only 20 episodes, maybe try that, if there's any interest left :)
Definitely don't expect it to be less than a year. With the shooting, post production, censorship board and having to coordinate actors already existing engagements, I'd say one year would be a miracle.
Your stronger than me!! When I see new episodes - I must watch. I have absolutely no patience within me lol.
Yes, I've seen that. The Wolf also had an opening sequence that was basically a condensed version of the whole drama, spoilers galore. When I've seen it, I was like: "thanks, why not show the ending too?" But also, when I watched Legend of Fei trailer I really thought it would be a very interesting drama and then the disappointment...

Haha, I didn't get to Naruto when I was still watching a lot of anime and now, that I only watch one thing at the time, the sheer number of episodes scares me)) I did get through Bleach though, if XW gets to the level of Inoue "I only know two words and it's Kurosaki-kun" Orihime, I would probably pop a vein too. So far, I guess she's not annoying enough for me. Their relationship development kinda does bug me. They went from "Hi, do I know you?" to "I'm going to die for you" really fast. It's almost like she imprinted on him like little duck. But as long as their relationship is more on the background, I'll be fine, I think.

Wow, is it in later episodes (after 25)? Cause I didn't notice that much screaming "Tang San!!"... maybe once? With the cage in the beginning. Or maybe I'm just desensitized after some of the Japanese anime I've watched, so this doesn't seem so bad.

To me it's just obvious, that if they change the actors s2 is doomed.
