I really enjoyed it, and I don't mind the ending in general, but it does feel a little muddled. Overall the plot was pretty good and progressed at a nice pace, all characters were interesting and all side stories contributed to the main story and character, and relationship development. But closer to the end there... This the second drama I've watched recently that leaned heavily into monologuing and flashbacks by the end. Could have made it a little tighter, given more time to main characters interactions about Li Si being a prince, less dramatic stand offs for like 3 minutes straight. Some dialog felt repetitive too. And the villain laugh. Please. It's 2026. Please get rid of this ridiculous villain laugh, it cheapens even the most dramatic moments.
I'd still recommend this drama though. Did not expect it, but a really good watch.

She is a slave, basically, doesn't really have a choice. But she might still turn. I think A-Chou's whole reason for getting Bitao indenture contact was so that Weis have nothing to hold over her head. When she was reporting last, she still didn't know that contact was in A-Chou's hands. Now it's gone, so she might tell them to f off

One of Lu Zhao's conditions for letting her stay was "no murder". He would have thrown her out immediately.

Sometimes actors just don't have time in their schedules, but sometimes it's production or director that decides that actors voice doesn't mutch the character. Idk what's the reason here

God, yes. Totally agree. I had hard time getting used to it. At first it was like listening to someone else speak for the character. His own dubbing would have matched Lu Zhao just fine. Why did they do that?

I was also wondering. Let's be honest, he's not that busy to not have time for dubbing. So maybe it was because of hiatus, or maybe production just wanted a specific voice?
I wish it was his own voice, after watching him with only his own dubbing, it sounded so weird at first. Like it's not Lu Zhao speaking.

Really? Wei Rao did not give me impression of being intelligent. Slimy enough to get out of the tight spot? Sure. Intelligent? Nope. More like psychotic and hysterical, passable at pretending to be good, but not actually that great at fooling anyone who pays any attention.
A-Chou 100%, very intelligent and god at planning ahead.

The political plot looks like an afterthought with everything that's going on. I know it's a must in a historical drama, but this one is pretty weak. Maybe it'll develop more later.
Also Wei Rao is so hysterical, it's kinda getting annoying. I prefer my villains a little more cold blooded. She's screaming all the time (headache).
Other than that really good so far, a-Chou being smart really makes it. It's also funny that Lu Zhao knows he's being manipulated and still goes along with it. I actually think if a-Chou told him about the switch he would be on her side, he hates Wei Rao so much, I doubt he'll want to switch them back.

From all the drama I've watched, widow is left to live with husband family. I guess they are just looking at it from rich and spoilt perspective, but from her perspective it would be a dream: quiet rich life.

See, if it's what you said, sure for rich spoiled young lady it might be a problem. For the girl raised in poverty, who had to do manual work every day of her life it's like a blessing. Just live quitly in a rich manor, food, clothes all provided, no need to serve a husband - dream come true.

I am so confused, why is everyone like "if he dies it's your problem". How would it be bad for her if Lu Zhao dies? From death row prisoner and pour barely making ends meet girl, to rich widow. Wouldn't it have been better if he died?

So far the only problem I have is it seems like Yan An is not voicing himself, which is very weird for me because both dramas I've watched with him he did. The voice just doesn't mutch in my head.
But other than that, starts off interesting. Let's see how it goes

This is surprisingly good. Usually something like this is not my cup of tea, because the whole investigation thing looks cheesy a f, but this is unexpectedly interesting. Kinda Fangs of fortune vibe, which is my favorite drama ever.

Trailers don't give enough context to understand the whole situation. I also never said it was a safe drama, what I said is since this is a Chinese drama and he is the Male lead, it is very unlikely they will make him a truly bad person. And so far he really hasn't done all that much, except scare her. Kisses without asking concent is pretty much a regular occurrence in any drama, as long as it's implied that both people are actually in love, they consider it normal.
So far you can pretty much see that he uses his a-hole persona to cover up for his plans, which is a typical trope, he's just a little more morally gray than is usual for it. Most likely they will make him balance on the verge of said gray area, mever making him do anything really unforgivable, that's the only way they could have passed censorship.
