Most likely the script is modified from the SM, because the synopsis of the novel (i don't read the entire novel, so i don't know more) clearly stated who died on the Tokyo subway sarin attack (20th march '95).

The novel synopsis clearly stated who died, but that person died during the 20th march attack. I don't read the novel, but it seems that this adaptation altered that.

I think that we'll be getting a sequel. We didn't know whether Ichiro is going to change his and Junko's faith during the earthquake or not. Also with Junko is more educated, he needs to make sure that Wan-chan still exist since the timeline has altered a lil bit.
