A heart breaking story, and love prevailed. Excellent acting from Vin Zhang and Mao Xiao Tong.
Light Beyond the Reed is a melodrama about a raped victim who is fighting against society and the justice system to bring her predator to court. In the process, not only did she lose her job, but she also suffered a mental breakdown. Her family also dealt with the blow of the case when she lost it in court due to insufficient evidence.
The good news is that it has a happy ending. Vin Zhang and Mao Xiao Tong were phenomenal in this drama. Their acting was fantastic; this is the first role where I've seen Vin Zhang act greatly, compared to his other typical idol roles. Mao Xiao Tong was also awesome, and the two of them played a convincing couple who supported each other wholeheartedly throughout this terrible ordeal.
The supporting cast was awesome as well, especially
Liu Dan, who played the dominating and love-to-hate mom. She acted very well, especially when she had a stroke after Ye Si Bei lost the case.
Synopsis: An ordinary woman with an ordinary life and an ordinary husband. Until one night, her husband forgot to pick her up at the wine party she was attending, leading to her being raped. But because she was afraid to be blamed for having drunk, to be blamed for having worn a dress, to be accused of being unfaithful by her husband, and fearful of all the persecutions that she would endure if she talked, she chose to keep silent. But unexpectedly, her husband noticed her tears and her suffering. Unexpectedly, again, he took her hand, took the phone, and said, "Let's call the police and press charges." This is the story of an injured woman and her husband, who will stand on the road with her to ask for justice. The road will be long and bumpy, but despair will always come to an end.
