Was the shi-xiong shi-di relationship also present in the novel? Or was it added into the drama to pass some censorship…
no not in the novel, but the script writer explained it to further involve the two characters to have more entanglement. I mean all these episodes already aired without triggering the censorship, so to say it was added to pass the censorship, maybe to just have the hugging and hand holding scene? seeing how carefully the script writer handled the story, it was probably a two pronged approach. How she added the storyline that made sense, further the character development, but also skate the censorship line. The censorship is always there, can you blame the creators for wanting their work to be seen by the general audience as safely as possible.
can we appreciate the richness of the story because of dynamic characters who has a past and has a complex personality. Their actions are backed by their personal history and experiences. with good actors who can convey these complex feelings makes this drama more complex, more real, more grounded, more personal
And they managed to ruin the best character with a single episode. Still a good series, but their relationship…
I think the script writer is trying to have them have more entanglement in the past so their stories are more involved with each other, I don't think this reduces their relationship solely to brothers, but make their past also have some kind of entanglement.
I probably get bombarded here by TU fans, but my faded memory of TU is that one was an initiative talker while…
MXTX, all her stories, the three, deals with unrequited love not communicated to the other party. One party is always not in the know about the other parties feelings, because maybe she prefers the strong and silent type who sacrifices in silence. But this makes the story extremely one-sided ( so obvious in SVSS, as it deals with the inner monologue and system of SQQ). I don't think she's good romance writer, she's a pretty good mystery writer though. You don't see her characters development their relationship in real terms, because the story comes with setting of one party already in love with the other they're willing to sacrifice for them already. It's not really how relationships work, but it is extremely popular with female fans. If anything the untamed is a mystery story that with two people falling in love (but we don't see it, they don't communicate it) while solving the mystery, while TYK mainly deals with the two people forming a relationship and dealing with the story that happens around them.
I love that you are well versed enough to make an argument for this classification, however, the mere mention…
I don't know because Slythe raised a lot of proof that is not stated in the novel nor the TV series, but seems like assumptions. such as the appearance of the the MLs appearing young while they are actually old, (its stated they're both around 30) and the Lapis armor being a magical artifact when in fact it's just a key that opens a storage where all the Martial Arts manuscripts are held, but I mean it's this persons opinion. who am I to argue with someones opinion. While the two genres of Wuxia and Xianxia do overlap sometimes. I see no hints of Xianxia in this, but there are supernatural elements to this story if you've read Qiye, (a side character appearing later and has his own story and deals with reincarnation). There's a big difference between Xianxia and supernatural elements in an Wuxia story. No body in this story is trying to achieve immortality, and nobody is using their "core" to fly on swords. But there is a character who is really old that appears young, Ye Bai Yi, but it's not due to "cultivation" but his practice of a specific Martial Art manuscript. I don't want to go on debating over this because it seems like they are set on their opinion.
While people are debating not to make this series more obvious as having a BL trope, upon reading the novel until…
I love that you are well versed enough to make an argument for this classification, however, the mere mention of JIANGHU pretty much throws the drama into the Wuxia category, because it's the single most important setting of Wuxia. Jianghu is extremely grounded in mortal struggles while Xianxia mainly deals with cultivation and ascension into immortality. Also, the script writer classified it as Wuxia.
the subtlety is lost in translation though, so. I do feel bad for non-chinese viewers.
the script writer is so well-versed in Chinese literary sources, some of them have never been used in popular media. Some references are not even well known to the the commonly educated folks, so it's like a treasure hunt for Chinese viewers too. I wish I could translate the poems, but I don't think I can do it justice. but the internet is a wonderful place where anything can't be found, so im sure an avid fan is already on it.
if you go back and watch the episodes again, ZZS has been subtly flirting with WKX since episode 2. they are both big flirts. AHHH, I can't with these two.
no drama has brought me this much joy as Word of Honor. Im grinning from ear to ear watching this and jumping up and down waiting for the next episode.
