I feel like Japan always includes their own social issues in their dramas, like low birth/marriage rate, workaholic citizens, struggling grownup otakus, conservative/shy/polite culture, etc. As you noticed, these problems are not really common to other countries so a lot of people won’t be able to relate. For example, I’ve never even heard of a country with a high rate of people who doesn’t want to leave their room that they coined a term for it, which is “hikikomori”. In a way, they try to address problems by these dramas. Why do you think there are lots of Jdramas with “annoying” fl (more of outspoken, in Japan’s perspective these girls are not very common because they are very shy)?Because they encourage young people to initiate on love, so as to increase their chance of marriage. I think Japan is doing great on staying local, I’ve loved their contents as it is so I don’t really mind if they decide to continue to do so.
