Netflix viewership chart is out and Squid Game 2 garnered a staggering 68 million views in its debut week. I’ve never seen any show receive this many views in its first week, not even an English show. Although this was expected since Squid Game 1 remains the number one show of all time on Netflix, the numbers are still astonishing.
And Alice in borderland is 8.8,Just accept the fact. What's the point of blaming romcom?
Bruh just stop going back to your sentences. First you asked for the names of thrillers with good MDL ratings which i provided. Now you are making excuses, saying it's subjective, how half of them are bad and how they got their ratings because of "sexy oppa" and blah blah. The fact is, these thrillers are loved by the masses for their execution. Just because you didnt like them doesnt mean they are bad nd that doesnt mean their higher ratings are because of "sexy oppa" or whatever. Very few of them have "sexy oppas," yet they still got higher ratings. Why?? Because execution and story matter, something Squid Game 2 failed to deliver. Thats why its stuck at a 7.9.
If MDL or even official sites list them as thrillers, then they are automatically thrillers. Just go do some research about the subgenres of thrillers instead of giving examples of gourmet and nonsense.
SG1 was groundbreaking and something truly new, which is why it got an 8.4 on MDL and was loved by the masses worldwide. SG2, on the other hand is just a cash grab riding on the popularity of S1, which is evident in every episode.
How about instead of defending mid tier shows like SG2, you go and watch the aforementioned thrillers to broaden your knowledge of thrillers and their subgenres??
And Alice in borderland is 8.8,Just accept the fact. What's the point of blaming romcom?
Even i watch shows from all kind of genres and rates them based on how well they perform within their respective genres and how much i personally enjoy them. Additionally in recent times, romcoms and romance dramas have been failing to deliver higher ratings, often starting with 8.7- 8.8 but ending up within the range of 8.1- 8.3. For example, KTL, My Demon, SYIM19L, LND, Dr. Slump, etc. Only three romance shows have managed to get ratings above 8.5 and these are LR, QOT and WTPR, mostly because they were liked by the audience for their execution. I personally disliked QOT but came to terms with the fact that it was well received by the audience. So its not like the audience is biased toward the romcom or romance genre; they actually give ratings based on how much they enjoy it, regardless of the genre.
Im Siwan is my favorite kdrama actor but i still hated how underutilized he was in this show because of the large cast while Park Sunghoon slayed in his transgender role.
And Alice in borderland is 8.8,Just accept the fact. What's the point of blaming romcom?
Just go and check the genres of these dramas , all of them have the thriller genre listed. So how can they not be thrillers?? They are all different types of thrillers, just like how Squid Game and All of Us Are Dead are survival thrillers but ultimately, their main genre is still thriller. Crime thrillers are not the only subgenre of thrillers, there are mystery thrillers, makjang thrillers, legal drama thrillers, noir thrillers and more. Please be aware of this before commenting.
Secondly after listing over 70 titles with 8.4 or higher ratings, if you still cant accept that MDL audiences give high ratings when they genuinely like a show, regardless of its genre, then i dont know what else to say.
You are just biased towards Squid Game 2 and can't accept that its simply a midtier show, deserving of the ratings its currently getting.
Just get over your hatred toward romance or romcom dramas who have nothing to do with Squid game2's current ratings.

And Alice in borderland is 8.8,Just accept the fact. What's the point of blaming romcom?
Sorry not rarely but there are 100's kthrillers with actual good ratings. I can name all if you want their names. Whereas in recent times romcoms are actually getting low ratings despite starting on high note like 8.7-8.8 for example SYIM19L, Doctor Slump, KTL, My Demon, Love Next Door etc. Just accept the fact that audience only gives high ratings if they enjoys it, irrespective of genre.
Only QOT & LR are two most successful romamce dramas from 2024 whereas most of others failed to make it big bcz of their execution.
All the shows you mentioned are from different genres. When comparing shows, try to compare them to others within…
If you are talking about plot structures repeating, then not only QOT and LR but plenty of dramas across various genres repeat similar arcs, tracks and scenes. Ultimately it depends on the execution and how well the director makes it appealing to the audience. If the audience enjoys it, the drama is successful. However if the same plot structure is repeated or executed poorly, people wont like it at all.
Speaking of kdramas, there are hundreds of thrillers and dramas in the same genre that have achieved ratings higher than 8.5. Some of my favorites include King of Pigs, Weak Hero Class 1, The Glory (1 & 2), Mouse, Moving, Shop for Killers, Kingdom, Light Shop, Vigilante and so on. So you cant say the same for kseries either because audiences give high ratings if they genuinely enjoy it regardless of the genre.
usual MDL where Queen of Trash is 8.8 and Lovely Bummer 9 where same plot structure is repeated for millionth…
All the shows you mentioned are from different genres. When comparing shows, try to compare them to others within the same genre and their respective ratings. Squid Game falls under the survival/thriller genre, whereas QOT and LR are romance/comedy/drama shows where they excel. Personally i disliked QOT but fans enjoyed it so it is what it is.
If you compare SG2 to top tier korean thriller dramas, you will understand where it falls short. It wasnt bad but it wasnt particularly great either, considering the hype surrounding it. There are many underrated thrillers in the korean drama industry that surpass SG2. Comparing it to those will help you understand why the ratings are lower. The ratings might increase over time but they are likely to remain under 8.5 or 8.3.
Or Just compare it to Alice in Borderland 1&2 you will get your answer.
The first episode was just okay for me but it was okay enough to continue to the next one. FL's situation with her company reminds me a lot of Min Heejin's situation with ADOR/HYBE lol.
it hasn't been 2.5 hours since it was released how did you finish all 4 episodes.
So, i cant even get angry if you call me pathetic just because i watch dramas at higher speeds?? Seriously?? And you call this a "personal opinion," so im not allowed to judge you for that??
What if someone judged you based on your personal life and choices?? If you got angry, they could just say, "Who are you to judge me for having my own opinion?" How would you feel??
Now imagine someone calls you a really nasty name, like a whore and justifies it by saying, "It’s just my opinion." What would you do then??
And secondly if i watch dramas at 2x speed, 4x speed or even 10x speed, what does that have to do with you?? Its my phone, my laptop, my OTT account and my eyes. I will decide how i want to watch it. Just use some common sense.
This platform is meant for sharing opinions about dramas, not for judging others or taunting them. Calling out others like that cant be considered a "so called opinion." Just grow up and move on.
it hasn't been 2.5 hours since it was released how did you finish all 4 episodes.
Who are you to judge others for watching content at higher speeds?? Even OTT platforms provide speed options, so who are you to dictate if others should watch at normal speed or faster?? Just get a life. Not everything is going to happen the way you want.
Do you know what's truly pathetic?? Judging people for how they choose to watch something. You have no right to tell others what they should or shouldn't do.
This pointless behavior of hating on others for such trivial reasons wont bring you happiness. Watch shows at whatever speed you prefer and let others do the same.
it hasn't been 2.5 hours since it was released how did you finish all 4 episodes.
Every ep starts new story with new set of characters so initially ep felt really slow but by the end of each ep it becomes exciting. E3 was quite boring for me otherwise other eps were evn with lil bit slow pacing were quite good.
The first half of Light Shop (E1-4) was really good and i enjoyed it. Each episode introduced the stories of different characters and ended on an exciting cliffhanger. While the transition to a new set of characters and stories in each episode initially felt a bit slow & boring, it quickly became exciting by the end, only to reset again with another new story. The first half wrapped up with the reveal of a major mystery, setting the stage for the second half which i assume will focus on unraveling it.
The spooky atmosphere and eerie vibes were crafted well. While it wasnt scary enough to terrify you, it was more than effective at puzzling, confusing and keeping you engaged. The mystery aspect was especially well executed.
What about Squid game. I thought that was the highest ever. To be honest, demon, QoT and KL aren't even good dramas,…
Squid Game is a Netflix original OTT kdrama, whereas i was referring to kdramas from local TV channels that stream exclusively on Netflix.
QOT, KTL, My demon and EAW are TV kdramas that streams exclusively on Netflix, whereas shows like Squid Game, Sweet Home, The Glory and All of Us Are Dead etc. are Netflix original kdramas.
- At 2nd place, My Demon secured 5.4 & 4.9 mn views in its second & third week.
- At 3rd place, Queen of Tears garnered 4.8 mn views in its seventh week.
-Lastly, King The Land recorded 4.7 mn views in both its second and sixth weeks.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo likely have achieved higher views than this during some of its weeks but at the time, no. of views wasnt a measured parameter on Netflix's Top 10 ranking charts.

The previous debut week record was held by Wednesday Season 1 with 50.1 million views.

However if u watch it at 1.5 speed, it hardly takes 106-108 mins which is even less than 2hrs. So do the math correctly.
