SMās father is really something else in the entire c-drama universe. The more people gossip bad about his daughter-in-law, the more he's satisfied. ROFL
OMG we were cheated on Episode 13..I thought the editing on the part where they ran to each other at the docks…
Well, itās good that their hug was cut. It would have been quite strange for them to hug at that moment. They donāt even have any relationship, and itās happening in broad daylight in a public area while DZ has a marriage agreement with someone else.
That particular scene felt odd. Itās unclear why the director would include a hug when their relationship development is nowhere near that stage.
To answer your question about why her fate didnāt seem to change:
She did make efforts to change her circumstances:
1. She tried to stop her father from marrying his second wife (but failed because when she woke up, her father had already gotten her mistress pregnant).
2. She saved her mother from poisoning (though her mother still ended up dying, just by a different method. Because she has no power to control her mother's actions).
3. She ran away from her family, moved in with her grandmother, and started a business.
4. She tried to change the male leadās dark path even though his uncle also still ended up dying. She couldn't save him because it was simply beyond her ability. She was reborn only with some knowledge, not supernatural powers to change someoneās fate. She had no idea what was behind the male leadās uncleās death, so she couldnāt prepare or act to alter it. You canāt expect her -a stranger- to run up to the male lead or his uncle and say, "Hey, youāre going to be killed by the Emperor". People would think she was crazy or, worse, have her detained. However, she did manage to change the Ding familyās and the soldiersā fate, no one in the family being massacred like in the previous life. She also turned the male leadās path around by showing him a different possibility other than being a Traitor.
In life, not everything can be changed the way you want smoothly.
As for why she didnāt cut ties with her family, itās because she couldnāt do so. The drama is set in ancient China during the Ming Dynasty, where Confucian values heavily influenced society. As long as there were men, women were expected to submit to them, whether it was their father, husband, or the family patriarch. Thatās why her uncle could control her life, because he is the patriarch of the clan who has that authority, and everyone in the family has to listen to him.
She could only free herself if she married out or if all the men in the clan were no longer alive. Otherwise, women during that time couldnāt establish their own households, especially someone from a noble family like hers.
As for eliminating threats, how could she do that? By killing them? Her uncle is a government official, and killing an official is punishable by death. And moreover, killing her own family, no matter what his faults were, a niece killing her uncle would always be condemned.
Don't even talk about killing or harming them, by just not being obedient to her parents and elders, already seen as a serious moral failing. Simply doing that would have tarnished her reputation.
I add in one more point. On top of that, her uncle's death at this point would only lead to the family's downfall. A clan's reputation and stability heavily rely on the most capable man in the family. As a high-ranking official with direct access to the Emperor, her uncle's authority ensures that outsiders respect the Dou family. This is also why Wu grandpa is trying hard to make his grandson follow in his footsteps, even setting up a marriage with another noble family. Because without the "pillar" of the family, the clan would be left with nothing, and their future would become very difficult. Unless she gains bigger power to ensure the Dou familyās safety and stability, any harmful actions she takes against her uncle will only backfire and bring her no benefit.
So, despite this being an imaginable rebirth story, the plot still has to reflect the realities of the time period in which it's set.
Based on the novel. It will be shocking.SPOILERS!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!The previous Duke Ying forced Song…
Heās not Mrs. Jiangās biological child. Song Yichun, had an affair and got his mistress pregnant while Mrs. Jiang was also expecting her second child. He then cruelly swapped her baby with his mistressās baby. Her real child, a girl, was raised in the Jiang household without her realizing it. |Song Yichun revealed the truth to Mrs. Jiang just before giving her the last poison.
Can we make greyish-white hair a thing for historical C-dramas with white-haired characters? I'm so over the fake, super white wigs that look off, especially with pitch-black eyebrows. Song Mo's white hair looked so natural, and the way it contrasted with the snow was absolutely perfect!
According to the story it was bandits however the story is changed from the novel. We don't know yet how it's…
It's not really an affair. The mother saves the duke, and later, after drinking deer blood to aid his recovery, the duke ends up sleeping with her. The blood, being "hot," triggers his uncontrollable desires. It's unclear whether the mother consented or was coerced.
Me too... It's a really unconvincing story. In the end, this drama is a romantic drama disguised as revenge....I'm…
Huh? In AJTL, the ML never tried to kill the FL. He knew her identity was suspicious, so he tested her. The most he did was press on a wound she got from someone else, and then she bit him. That's all.
If you really want to compare, AJTL was more like Wei Zhao vs. Pei Yan, where they both smart, strong, and had the power to kill each other. Not the ML repeatedly trying to hurt the FL while she had to rely on the SML to save her over and over.
The FL was innocent from the start. She didn't do anything to the ML when they first met, she was just drinking and watching the fun. It was the ML who approached her, then poisoned her, then stabbed her. She shouldāve died here, but thanks to the SML, she survived. Then, even after so many days of spying on her and could guess that she didn't revealed his identity to PY, he still choose to hurt her again. As if that wasnāt enough, he poisoned her a second time, and once more, she shouldāve died if not for the SML.
Whatās ironic is that the story portrays the ML as someone who values innocent lives, yet the FL was the most innocent of all, and he had no hesitation in trying to kill her LOL.
Honestly, I don't care whoās trying to kill who, even if the roles were reversed and the FL was the one trying to kill the ML multiple times, Iād still feel the same way. Enemies to lovers' is fine, but not "murder to lovers".
lolššš Anyway it's your choice but after ep 9 10 I think people are more invested in this drama but you…
lol normal? c-dramas these days are just full with illogical storyline. I grew up watching historical c-dramas, and Iād never see something like that as a normal romance. I do enjoy an enemies-to-lovers story, but not when itās so absurd. The worst thatās acceptable is probably bullying, but attempted murder? no thanks. Sure, WZ tried to kill her and she didn't die, that's because the SML did everything he could to save her. And you think itās normal for her to still fall in love with him? lol, itās pretty disturbing to even consider.

IKR, In a real situation, normal people would likely fight back and try to kill the guy at any cost. But how could she end up falling in love with him just out of sympathy? Thatās just crazy.
They are not in a relationship yet. They are just enemies.
Not now, but will. I donāt mind a "falling in love with the enemy" plot, but falling for someone who has tried to kill you multiple times and doesnāt hesitate to hurt you? Thatās really not for me. Most people are okay with it because the fact heās the ML and the plot will create a romance story for them. If he were the SML, though, I bet people would be cursing the FL for her stupidity.

funny enough, we have the same taste, every drama she praised happens to be one of my favorites too.
